The move has demonstrated the significant level of expansion that has taken place at Stephen George + Partners in the West Midlands area. The practice has also seen the appointment of a new project Architect, Juma Chipeta. The appointment will lead to an enhancement of the already expansive technical and BIM expertise. The Midlands region of the country is seeing a great deal of economic growth with continually strong levels of investor confidence in property and development. The move for the architectural practice to larger, permanent offices is a demonstration that Stephen George + Partners are dedicated to driving future growth in the long term across the region. The company has announced that they will also be looking to increase their workload in the residential, retail, leisure, commercial and industrial areas. The company have developed a reputation that is enviable, for delivering quality design and robust delivery. The new Project Architect, Juma Chipeta has 25 years of experience in consulting practice. In the past, Juma has most recently worked on a 150-home scheme that took place on the former Armitage Shanks Tap Works in Wolverhampton. As part of UK Construction Week this week, the construction industry has been reaching out to High school children in order to educate them about the industry. Two different groups of Year 10 students enjoyed an interactive talk about the construction industry during their Resistant Materials GCSE lessons. The talks were given to the students of The Gilberd School in Colchester by Countryside on Monday 9th October. The students were told about two different aspect of the company. Ian Ritchie, the Senior Project Manager for Beaulieu development in Chelmsford; and Daniel Hearn, a Countryside graduate and now Marketing Co-ordinator both spoke to the students about their roles at the home building company. UK Construction Week is the perfect opportunity to try and engage with students, and supply extra information about the construction industry in order to try and recruit more prospective apprentices and workers for the industry. Supplying more information about the industry and the different jobs and career opportunities could encourage more school leavers to consider a career in the industry. The presentation given by Ian and Daniel allowed the Resistant Materials students to learn more about the most up to date construction techniques as well as the different types of jobs available in construction as well as the skills that are required. The students were also encouraged to ask questions throughout the talk about the industry. Countryside is working on a development close to The Gilberd School, in Chesterwell. As part of the development a range of different amenities are expected to be improved, with proposals for a new primary and secondary school included in the development. I9t is great that the development company are giving back to the community they are working in by giving talks as well as working to hopefully recruit the construction workers of the future. Countryside are committed to the training of future skilled workers with apprenticeships, Interns, Placement Year Students and Graduates employed throughout the business.

The construction company is located on Blenheim Road in Ashbourne and received a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award last year. Whitehouse Construction has also signed the Armed Forces covenant, which pledges to support the members of the workforce that are either veterans or service reservists. The DNRC is based at Stratford on Sour, close to Loughborough. This Centre is a clinical rehabilitation facility for the Armed Forces as well as members of the public. The DNRC is an initiative that was first set up by the Duke of Westminster in order to deliver 21st century rehabilitation services. Whitehouse Construction wanted to raise money for the rehabilitation centre following the awarding of their Silver Award for employing a range of ex-Service personnel as well as signing the Armed Forces Covenant. There are a number of similarities between the Forces and the construction industry therefore the company felt that it was important to support the DNRC and in doing so, the Armed Forces. Whitehouse Construction is focused on leading the way on the civil engineering sector, and the DNRC at Stamford Hall are delivering a range of cutting edge rehabilitation treatments both in the UK and around the world. Sharon and her husband Alan were also presented with a commemorative Schiedel pen with the 50-year anniversary logo on. Schiedel Chimney Systems has been expanding for the last half a century in order to offer their customers high performance chimney and flue solutions that have been approved for use in modern eco-design housing. The solutions offered by Schiedel are suitable, for example, in the timber-framed Passivhaus buildings. The company has their roots in Germany, with the entrepreneur Friedrich Schiedel, who started with the production of double walled chimney systems which were produced at his former concrete factory in 1947. This means that the total funding acquired by Q-Bot now stands at £1.5 million. The funds that have been generated by Q-Bot will be used to allow the company to rollout the world’s first affordable and completely scalable solution for under floor insulation. This is an exciting time for Q-Bot with plans to increase their growth in the UK which will allow the company to expand into new markets. ClearlySo, one of the funding supporters have expressed their pride at being able to help the company raise the right amount of funds to support the next stage of their business as well as helping to improve energy efficiency, and cutting fuel poverty for a number of customers in the UK and beyond. It has been calculated that around 10 million homes are in need of under floor insulation in the UK alone. When this information is widened to incorporate Northern Europe and the US, it becomes apparent that there is a huge market for more scalable solutions and approaches in order to retrofit insulation. Q-Bot has developed an innovative robotic device that can be deployed through a small opening and then survey and map out the space. The robots can also be used to apply insulation in situ and the validate that the job is complete. This is an innovative new approach that can upgrade cold and draughty properties, transforming them into warm and cosy properties and reducing energy bills.

The building is a 34.5-meter by 18.5-meter steel fabricated structure that consists of composite walls and 100mm roof cladding. The Smart-Space building has also been fitted with skylights. The workshop will be used by Bolt Building Supplies for the production of I-beams in order to help to meet the increasing demand seen for engineering flooring systems from construction companies operating in the South East of England. Moving their production if I-beams on to site will allow Bolt Building Supplies to better meet their customer’s requirements and offer a wider selection of products as the need for I-beams across the industry. Smart-Space focuses on delivering cost-effective building solutions for a wide range of industrial and commercial uses. The company constructs solutions that are lightweight and modular; featuring lighting, heat, power and other mechanical services when required by the customer. The builders and timber merchant company are moving their design and production of these I-beams on to their site in order to assist their customers with new build projects taking place across the region. It was important for the company that the new warehouse was up and running as soon as possible, therefore Smart-Space offered the most suitable solution. The full design and build project took around 14 weeks from start to finish and the final warehouse is of excellent quality.
