Galliford Try has won a £62m contract to build new accommodation for students at Newcastle University.
The university’s existing Richardson Road flats – known as Ricky Road and built in the 1970s – will be pulled down. In their place will be built six new blocks ranging from four to 10 stories.
The new development will provide 1,279 en suite bedrooms, a 351 increase in student bed spaces on the site.
Galliford Try is expected to start work on site this summer and have the new halls open for students in September 2018.
