Approved plumbers are helping customers save water, energy and money, says WaterSafe

Approved plumbers are helping customers save water, energy and money, says WaterSafe Published:  23 March, 2016 A survey of approved plumbers in the UK reveals they are helping homes and businesses save millions of litres of water each year and money from water and energy bills. WaterSafe, the national accreditation scheme for plumbers in the UK, carried out a survey of its plumbers to find out how much they talk about saving water with their customers and how often they recommend products to cut down on waste. An impressive 98% think it’s part of a good plumber’s job to provide advice on water efficiency and 92% regularly talk to customers about products which can help save water. One respondent said: “It shows a plumber cares about the industry rather than just making money. It’s professional to know about water efficiency.” Many plumbers said customers were often unaware that they were using more water than they needed to and also didn’t realise that by using less hot water they could also save on energy bills. Julie Spinks, director of WaterSafe, said: “WaterSafe plumbers are all fully qualified and trusted to work safely with drinking water in homes and businesses but they are also offering customers additional free advice which can help them save water, save energy and save money. “It’s inspiring to hear that plumbers are motivated to give the best possible service to customers on all aspects of their water supply and also care about protecting water sources and the environment in which they live and work.” Image courtesy of Shutterstock/ Andrey_Popov Source link

Galliford Try expands northern councils order book

Galliford Try has added to its forward order book with three new bits of business for local authorities in the north of England. Galliford Try’s joint venture with Capita has secured a three-year extension to its Urban Vision partnership with Salford City Council, worth up to £30m in revenues for each party. Urban Vision was formed in 2005 to provide technical services to Salford City Council in areas including property, regulatory planning, engineering infrastructure, and design and highway operations planning. Galliford Try’s role in the partnership is to provide highway maintenance services. The framework has now been extended to its full 15-year term which will run until 2020. Separately, Galliford Try has also been appointed to two new frameworks in the northeast of England. It has been appointed to a new infrastructure services framework worth up to £1.2bn over four years, for the North East Purchasing Organisation (NEPO) which represents 12 local authorities in the region. Galliford Try has been picked for five lots: infrastructure works above £5m; highways work above £5m; marine and coastal works above £1m; highways structures above £5m; and public realm works above £1m. Finally, Galliford Try has also been appointed to South Tyneside Council’s civil engineering framework, which is anticipated to generate about £20m of business over its three-year term. Chief executive Peter Truscott said: “These awards demonstrate the breadth and versatility of the service provided by our Infrastructure division and, in particular, the strength of our Highways and Environmental businesses. We look forward to working with all the partners involved to make a high quality contribution to the infrastructure of the northwest and northeast.”     This article was published on 28 Apr 2016 (last updated on 28 Apr 2016).
