Brexit 'not a good option for renewables', says MacNeil

Energy and Climate Change Committee chair Angus MacNeil raised concerns about the impact leaving the European Union will have on the renewable energy industry.

MacNeal said that the future of the industry was “dependent on many things” but that “either way it is not good”.

“The future of renewables is dependent on many things and dependent really on what form Brexit takes.

“Either way it is not good and Brexit doesn’t seem to have been a very good option at all for renewables,” he said.

MacNeil spoke after the event which was attended by industry stakeholders and current contender for prime minister and energy minister Andrea Leadsom.

He added that the three different options for the UK’s status could have different impacts on the industry and highlighted that negotiations could potentially take more than seven years.
