Book Course
HSL is to run a 1 day course on Nanotechnology Health & Safety – A Practical Approach.
12 July 2016
Introduction
Nanotechnology has a wide range of consumer applications from
pharmaceuticals and electronics to cosmetics and novel
fabrics. One of the prerequisites for the safe development of
nanomaterials is to ensure the safety of workers using, handling or
manufacturing nanoparticles.
In response to this HSL is running a one day training course on
a practical approach to nanotechnology health and safety.
This course will help delegates to gain an understanding of the
techniques and methods available to identify and control exposure
to airborne nanomaterials.
Course includes
Course aim
To gain an understanding of the techniques and methods available
to identify and control exposure to airborne nanomaterials.
Course Objectives
The focus of this course will be on a “Practical approach to
nanotechnology health and safety”. The course will provide
delegates with an understanding of:
- What is known about the health risks for exposure to
manufactured nanomaterials? - What exposure scenarios might be expected?
- What measurement techniques and strategies to measure airborne
nanomaterials can be used in the workplace? - What types of engineering controls are available; how to select
and maintain these controls. - Correct selection and use of Respiratory Protective Equipment
(RPE) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). - Managing the disposal of nanomaterials.
Course learning outcomes
At the end of the one-day course, the delegates should
understand:
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at health and safety advisors, occupational
hygienists and users of nanomaterials in universities, research
organisations and industry.
Venue
The course will be run at the HSL laboratory in the spa town of
Buxton. Buxton is in the heart of the Peak District and has good
links to mainline train stations and Manchester International
Airport.
Details of hotels in the Buxton area can be found at www.visitbuxton.co.uk.
Cost
The cost of this course is £495 per person (includes course
notes, lunch and refreshments).
