City Plumbing sees unprecedented upward trend in the sales of solar PV solutions

City Plumbing is anticipating a further rise in demand for solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions after seeing a notable rise in sales during the first quarter of 2022 as well as other emerging factors affecting the market. The merchant’s specialist renewables business, Energy Efficiency at City Plumbing, has reported an unprecedented increase in sales for solar PV products during Q1 2022 compared to the same period last year. The business believes the surge in demand is the result of a combination of factors including increasing energy costs, forcing businesses and consumers to look at alternative sources of power. National and regional housing developers are also looking to prepare for changes to Part L of the Building Regulations in June, while Social Housing Landlords are turning to proven technologies to tackle energy efficiency concerns within existing housing stock. Other drivers include the realisation from consumers that solar can be used to charge electric and hybrid vehicles, which have also seen a surge in popularity over recent years. City Plumbing predicts that this demand will continue to rise as the energy cap review for October continues to be discussed and as a result, the business is massively increasing its stockholding in photovoltaic panels, mounting systems, inverters and battery storage solutions, meaning the product can be on site the next day if required. In addition to increasing the amount of stock at its national distribution hub Omega, City Plumbing has allocated more designers to solar PV and is upskilling its branch staff to assist with general queries around this alternative source of energy. Steve Smith, Managing Director of Energy Efficiency, Electrical and Underfloor at City Plumbing, said: “There are a number of factors driving the market, meaning homeowners have seen a significant increase in their energy cost with further rises due in October. This is driving real interest in how they might heat and power their homes with alternative technologies. The increase in energy costs are also having a significant impact on the cost of running businesses, driving business owners to explore how they can reduced their costs We believe this, along with the Chancellor’s recent announcement for a time limited, zero rated VAT rule on the installation of some energy saving materials that include photovoltaic systems, will continue to drive a real appetite for PV throughout the year.” “For housing developers, changes to the Part L Building Regulations in June and The 2025 Future Homes Standard are demanding more sustainable solutions and, we’ve seen a real interest in a variety of energy efficient technologies, including solar PV. With our increased stockholding and in house technical design, we are in a great place to support our customers with all their energy efficiency needs.  For more information or advice on Solar PV solutions, visit www.eecityplumbing.co.uk.

LAND & WATER STARTS PHASE TWO OF WORKS AT BLENHEIM

After completing phase one of works at the end of 2020, leading wet civil engineering firm Land & Water, is now starting phase two of a wider restoration project at Blenheim Estate. The restoration works, which are due to start this month, will see Land & Water begin the first dredge of Queen’s Pool in over 100 years. The lake was created by Sir Capability Brown around 1763 as part of his extensive re-landscaping of the World Heritage Site. Land & Water will be removing 300,000 cubic metres of silt over the course of the nine months, which is enough to fill the height of Wembley Stadium, to return the lake to its ideal depth of two metres from its current shallows of 30cm. Charlie Oakes, Project Manager at Land & Water says, “It is great to be back at Blenheim and continuing works to safeguard the future, and protect the history, of this prestigious site and its landscapes. “Queen Pool has become heavily silted which can have a detrimental impact on its ecosystem. By carrying out these dredging works, we are able to increase the depth of the lake so that it can continue supporting the flora and fauna which thrives there. “Land & Water is also proud to be using HVO fuel throughout the project which is up to 90+% net carbon neutral and biodegradable meaning that we are significantly reducing the carbon output of these works.” “The dredge is one of the most ambitious civil engineering projects undertaken here at Blenheim over the last 300 years. It is vitally important to help ensure the long-term health of the lakes, surrounding waterways and parkland and the rich biodiversity that it supports as well as mitigating the risk of environmental damage due to climate change,” said Roy Cox, Blenheim Estate’s Director. “We’re delighted to be working with the hugely experienced team from Land & Water on this landmark programme which will write another fascinating chapter in the history of the Blenheim Estate,” he added. HVO fuel is a sustainable solution being harnessed by Land & Water as it continues to show its commitment towards becoming carbon net zero by 2030 and safeguarding the future of the planet. Land & Water has also been dedicated towards its social responsibility and has been working alongside the team at Blenheim to involve the local community in the restoration project through a competition that aims to name the specialist plant being used during the works. The winning names are Winston, Clementine, Swan, Mallard, Reg Who Likes To Dredge and Fair Rosamund.

Trade Body Apprenticeship Helps to Upskill for Construction Recruitment

Trade Body Apprenticeship Helps to Upskill for Construction Recruitment

A national trade body is launching its summer 2022 apprenticeship programme, developed to tackle a skills gap in a specialist area of construction that often goes under the radar as a potential career choice. The property care sector can offer a lifetime of learning and a varied, interesting and rewarding career, but it is not as widely known or recognised as other trades. To tackle the issue, the Property Care Association (PCA) launched its damp and timber apprenticeship in 2015, to develop a new generation of professionals with the important skills necessary to preserve and protect properties nationwide. Open to both PCA members and non-members alike across the UK, the programme takes a company employee or apprentice working in the damp, timber and building preservation sector through the award of the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 Diploma in ‘Insulation and Building Treatments (Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing)’ Qualification. The programme is structured in a modularised manner, through a mix of formal instruction “off-the-job” training, followed by supervised “on-the-job” training. It offers an insight into subjects including wet and dry rot, wood boring insects, rising damp and timber treatments. Jade Stocker, PCA Training Manager, said: “The damp and timber apprenticeship is delivered over a period of 18 months, with the programme divided into two main sections, training and assessment. Over the first 12 months, all apprenticeship training is delivered at our Practical Training Centre in Huntingdon, which is specifically kitted out for hands-on training. “Apprentices visit us five times over the first 12 months in four-day blocks. Once all apprenticeship training has been completed, a specialist assessor is assigned for the candidate, with six months allocated to complete the assessment process.” The PCA is now taking bookings for its June intake. Jade added: “Since its launch in 2015, the apprenticeship has achieved one of the highest retention rates in the construction sector. We look forward to welcoming our new trainees in June and supporting their training and development journey into the property care sector.” Building, Design and Construction Magazine | The Home of Construction Industry News

Innovative AI Enables Buildings to Cut Energy Bills

Innovative AI Enables Buildings to Cut Energy Bills

Against a backdrop of climate emergency and soaring energy prices, Arloid Automation provides smart technology that can enable any building management system to produce substantial energy savings on their bills. Through efficient optimisation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system performance, arloid.ai boosts energy efficiency – the most effective way for real-estate to cut carbon and reduce costs. On the 23rd of March 2022, UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced his Spring Statement amidst the growing strain of the global energy crisis. The Treasury document has been widely criticised for its failure to provide immediate support to people navigating the crisis and the absence of a windfall tax on fossil fuel producers – a measure strongly recommended by the International Energy Agency. Whilst there were some budget announcements that will be welcome to business owners such as a fuel duty reduction of 5p per litre, these changes are temporary and will do nothing to facilitate the UK’s journey to Net Zero. The document also promised to spend over £9.7bn on the decarbonisation of buildings, stating that energy efficiency was key to the UK’s long-term Net Zero ambitions. Many critics concur that energy efficiency is the principal way we can overcome the crisis, though say the statement is not doing enough to push this agenda. Buildings are widely recognised as one of the major sources of energy consumption, with the global real estate market consuming 60% of the world’s electricity and emitting 28% of global carbon emissions. Fortunately, whilst the spring budget announcements fail to do more than scratch the surface of the crisis, innovative technology can provide the solution. Arloid Automation uses Deep Reinforcement Learning to automatically manage the operation of HVAC systems in a wide range of buildings via a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN). The innovative AI makes decisions based on reinforced behaviour and real-time data to provide faster optimisation and better HVAC performance. By controlling each HVAC device in the system and dividing the building into distinct heating and cooling microzones, arloid.ai provides more nuanced control of the environment and better user comfort. As a result, the technology is achieving up to 30% energy savings across over 23 million square feet. Buildings all over the world from warehouses to retail premises to hotels to medical centres are realising the potential of machine learning to drive the decarbonisation of the built environment, and reduce operational costs. Recently, Darul Ghufran Mosque became the first mosque in Singapore to harness the power of AI. Darul Ghufran is the largest in the country, and therefore came with unique complexities and challenges. Arloid implemented centralised HVAC connectivity and calibrated the trained algorithm to provide continuous and autonomous HVAC management. Now the AI is proactively and consistently providing the optimum settings for maximum user comfort and energy efficiency at all times. After only 1 month of functionality, the mosque saw a 12% reduction in energy bills. After 3 months, the achieved savings stood at 8,535 kWh – a significant and welcome reduction in the mosque’s electricity consumption. The benefits of using AI to optimise building management systems are numerous. In the current climate, energy savings are the most notable, but AI can also proactively ensure better user comfort, provide nuanced thermal conditions for sensitive buildings like hospitals and logistics centres, and help businesses achieve their carbon targets. Buildings vary considerably in structure, complexity, and usage, and time is always at a premium – that means manual scheduling and manually collected data is always going to be insufficient to the task. AI trained using Deep Reinforcement Learning can process live data in real time, continuously monitoring and proactively adjusting systems to maintain the optimum settings – without the need for time-consuming external input, and quicker than other forms of machine learning. 6 Ways To Help Your Airbnb Stand Out By Using A Brochure Template

Are you an Airbnb host who is looking for ways to make your listing stand out? If so, you’re in luck! There are a number of things you can do to help your property stand out, and one of the best ways to do this is by using brochure templates. In this blog post, we’ll discuss six different ways that you can use a brochure template to help your Airbnb listing stand out. We’ll also provide tips on how to design and print your brochures. So, if you’re ready to take your Airbnb business to the next level, keep reading! #1: Make yourself look professional by using brochure templates One of the best ways to make your Airbnb listing stand out is by using a brochure template. With that being said, it’s important to keep in mind that many people will see your brochure before they see your listing. This means it’s essential for you to use a design that gives off an inviting “welcome home” vibe while also making yourself look professional. Fortunately, with the right design and layout, this can easily be accomplished! By choosing a theme that conveys these two qualities, you’ll give off the appearance of an experienced host who has their act together and who also cares about providing their guests with everything they need. These are both things that can help your Airbnb listing stand out from other properties. #2: Make your property stand out from the competition with a brochure maker When you’re offering a service, it’s important to find a way to differentiate yourself from your competitors. One of the best ways to do this is by creating an appealing brochure template for your Airbnb listing. Not only can you design a quality brochure that showcases everything your home has to offer, but you can also include relevant information about yourself as well as access information for guests. In addition, if you have any reviews or testimonials from previous guests, now is certainly the time to share them! This is another great way for you to make your Airbnb listing stand out from the competition by showing off why yours truly deserves people’s business.  And by choosing a quality brochure template, this task will be simple to accomplish. #3: Boost your SEO through local citations One of the best ways for you to help your Airbnb listing stand out is by using a brochure template that includes the proper local citations and service area information (SEO). There are several reasons why these two elements can make a big difference when it comes to rankings in search engines like Google and Bing.  The most important one? Local citations help tell major search engines that your business exists in the physical world, not just online. By including all of your relevant location information (such as an address, phone number, and hours), you’ll give off the impression that you’re a real business with a physical presence-which will help you rank higher in search engines. #4: Create a brochure design that boosts online bookings When it comes to making your Airbnb listing stand out, one of the best things you can do is create a brochure that includes all of the relevant booking information and amenities. This ensures that anyone who views your brochure design will learn all about what makes your property appealing. In addition, if they like what they see (for example, if you offer two beds instead of just one), this will make them more likely to book directly through your site rather than going to an alternative source.  Furthermore, including important information such as accessibility features for guests with disabilities or parking availability can help eliminate potential issues before they happen-which helps decrease cancellations and disputes. #5: Showcase your property’s best features using brochure examples Another way to make your Airbnb listing stand out is by using a brochure template that includes pictures and text describing the features of your home. This helps potential guests get a better feel for what they’re booking, meaning, if you have tall ceilings or an in-unit washer & dryer, you can be sure that guests are aware of these amenities before they arrive. With that being said, it’s important to keep in mind that people appreciate it when hosts are honest about their properties. So, when creating your brochure, remember to include only relevant information-avoiding embellishments or misinformation at all costs! You want to create a well-informed customer who will leave positive reviews about their stay in your home. #6: Get reviews to improve your results When it comes to making your Airbnb listing stand out, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better solution than great reviews and testimonials. This is because online ratings play an important role in terms of how guests perceive listings on sites like Airbnb. By having positive feedback from past guests, you’ll not only boost your own brand credibility but help potential customers feel more comfortable about their reservations as well. Just remember that “fake” reviews are against the site’s policy and should never be included on any brochure template for an Airbnb listing, no matter what! So avoid these at all costs; stick to helpful information that will bring you more business by improving guest satisfaction rates. If you’re an Airbnb host, you know that standing out from the competition is key to getting more guests. And one great way to do that is by using a brochure template to showcase your listing. Here you go – six tips for making your Airbnb brochure stand out. Just head on to Venngage to choose from hundreds of brochure templates that will help you make a brochure design for your Airbnb listing.

6 Safety Tips For Maintaining An Empty Property

Your property may fall vacant for various reasons. Perhaps you’ve just relocated and are yet to rent or sell your property. Other times, you may have moved out for renovations or gone for a long holiday. Leaving your property uninhabited may expose it to numerous risks. For instance, thieves find it easy to break-in. It’s also vulnerable to vandalism, squatting, and disasters like fire, floods, wind, and hail. With that in mind, you need to safeguard your property, whether you’re leaving it vacant for a long or short period. Here are six incredible tips on maintaining your empty property: Provide Security    You may consider hiring Empty property security guards from reputable firms to maintain, safeguard, and oversee your vacant property. The guards should monitor your property full time. This protects it from vandals and squatters. In addition to offering security services, they may undertake risk evaluations and help keep your compound clean until you’re back. Aside from that, you’d want to install security cameras and alarms as a reinforcement to the guards. Install Smart Home Devices Technological advancement has made it possible to monitor your home remotely through smart devices. This helps keep your property safe and gives you peace of mind since you can see all that’s happening around your home. You may install smart home cameras that record live footage and send it to your phone directly. In case of an attempted break-in, you can notify security quickly, saving your property from vandalism. You can also consider installing a smart lighting system that lets you turn your lights on and off even when you’re away. This scares those with ill intentions as they may think you’re around.  Additionally, make a point of installing smart thermostats. These enable you to adjust your home’s temperatures according to the current weather conditions. For instance, during cold seasons, you may keep your home warmer and prevent your pipes from freezing entirely and even bursting. Use Metal Doors Metal doors provide extra security for your property. Burglars can’t break in simply because they must use special equipment to force the door open, unlike wooden doors. The noise generated in the process alerts your neighbors, who can inform the police, thus thwarting the attempted robbery. Metal doors also provide a barrier to vandalism and trespassing. And no matter how long you’re away, metal doors can’t be destroyed by pests and insects. This maintains the sound state of your doors and saves you from the costly repairs associated with dilapidated doors. Inform Your Trusted Neighbors Your neighbors are an indispensable asset when it comes to vacant property. You can speak to the ones you trust most, informing them about your intended absence. As they’re always around the home, they can constantly watch your property and report anything strange to you or the police. You can also assign someone to conduct periodic inspections to check for issues like leaking pipes and report them to you.    Purchase An Empty Property Insurance If you’re going to leave your property unoccupied for a long time, you may consider purchasing vacant property insurance. This primarily covers theft, vandalism, and natural disasters like fire outbreaks, hail, and winds.   Vacant property insurers know the risks of an empty property. If you inform them, they can make regular visits to your asset and identify any problems timely or even keep them at bay. Maintain Internal And External Cleanliness One obvious indicator of an empty property is bushy and dirty surroundings. Once thieves, vandalizers, and squatters notice that your home is increasingly unkempt, they conclude that you’re not around. Thus, they’ll go ahead and break into your property.  Therefore, you need to ensure the grass and bushes in your compound are trimmed, and the flowerbed is neatly weeded. Also, remember to remove any litter around and empty the dustbins. This gives your surroundings an attractive look and gives the impression that it’s inhabited. Don’t forget to dust your house. Even though it’s unoccupied and locked, dust still gets in. Dusting prevents any permanent stains from forming on your expensive furniture and interiors.  To make all these maintenance chores possible, you may employ a friend or neighbor to do it on your behalf.  Conclusion  Leaving your property empty for lengthy periods is risky. Therefore, you need to put appropriate measures to safeguard it from burglars, vandals, and trespassers. Remember, prevention is better than cure. It’s better to take precautions against theft and break-ins than to come to terms with huge losses.   So, consider appointing security guards, replacing wooden doors with metal ones, installing smart home devices, and purchasing empty property insurance covers. This way, you’ll keep your unoccupied property safe.
