Adaptavate's low-carbon wallboard technology set to globalise

Adaptavate’s low-carbon wallboard technology set to globalise after hitting international industry standards

Adaptavate has just released the testing done to date on Breathaboard, its pioneering low-carbon alternative to plasterboard, confirming that it hits, and in some cases exceeds, the wallboard industry standards. Developed over the last ten years with Adaptavate’s patented technology, Breathaboard is a drop-in solution to reduce CO2 emissions and waste in the wallboard market and the built environment. Adaptavate’s technology intends to make low-carbon, carbon storing and carbon-negative building products available to all. The company’s first solution, Breathaboard, focuses on the wallboard category and the news today confirms its potential to go mainstream. In fact, Adaptavate is already trialling the product across UK building sites and is in talks with global and regional plasterboard manufacturers about deploying its low-carbon technology and plasterboard alternative across the globe. Tom Robinson, founder and CEO at Adaptavate said: “This milestone is a result of the team’s hard work, and the backing we have had over the last two years in building our pilot production facility and labs from the Government and our investors. Our pilot line, commissioned successfully last year, is producing Breathaboard to the incumbent standard, with Adaptavate’s patented low-carbon technology. The announcement today confirms that Breathaboard is a validated drop-in solution for the wallboard market. It gives manufacturers and potential licensees of our technology the reassurance that Breathaboard can enter their markets really soon and is a critical step to realising our vision of bringing low-carbon building materials to walls all over the world.” Breathaboard has been tested by independent UKAS accredited laboratories and can be fully compliant with incumbent standard EN 520 in all applicable performance criteria -exceeding them in some cases. More information about the tests and the results, can be found on Adaptavate’s website. The product is a natural, scalable, carbon sequestering alternative to one of the most widely used construction products, plasterboard. Breathaboard has half the embodied carbon than that of its competitors. It can save up to 4kg of CO2/m2[1] in a market of around 13bn m2 capacity. What is more, this product is installed in the same way as plasterboard but is lighter weight. Adaptavate’s innovation can help the construction industry rapidly decarbonise without changing the way buildings are renovated or constructed.  Adaptavate is now putting plans to build an industrial demonstrator into action to speed up the scalability and adoption of its climate positive technology across the globe. [1] Breathaboard has a saving of approx. 4 Kg CO2 equiv. of GWP per m2 (compared with a standard board from one of the main players in the UK plasterboard market), when measured using the standard defined by EN 15804 +A2 and counting the biogenic storage of our bio aggregate (3 Kg/m2). All calculations are developed through an Adaptavate proprietary tool which has been independently verified by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) Group. This tool not only calculates GWP but also environmental, energy and resource use parameters for in use impacts. Building, Design & Construction Magazine | The Choice of Industry Professionals

Her focus will include market education, fostering collaboration among aligned groups, and developing repeatable frameworks for success. Having previously worked at BecomingX and Accenture Group Plc, Aisling will work closely with the sales partnerships team.  Director of Sales Kelly-Marie Lovesy, previously of Opus Energy, said: “UrbanChain’s clean energy matching platform has proved that creating local renewable energy markets across the UK is not just the future – but the now. “To be leading UrbanChain’s sales division is something I’m very excited about as the individuals within it have vast industry experience and are passionate about bringing positive and necessary change to the UK’s energy landscape. “Our immediate focus as a new sales division is to further strengthen UrbanChain’s market presence by honing in on key market segments, including TPIs (Third Party Intermediaries), commercial and industrial clients, local authorities, community energy groups, while also targeting prosumers (clean energy producers and consumers) with energy management capabilities.” Backed by investors including leading European investment group Eurazeo, UrbanChain creates local energy markets where participants buy and sell renewable energy amongst themselves – without being exposed to wholesale market prices.  The CleanTech company’s AI driven platform matches renewable generation and consumption on a half hourly basis and settles transactions via private blockchain.  Just last month UrbanChain appointed KPMG to lead their current £50+ million Series B fundraise, which the company say will deliver further exponential growth in the UK and enable their proven model to be rolled out internationally, including the US and Europe.  Headcount at the CleanTech firm has increased from 10 to 75 while their leadership team boasts over 300 years of energy and technology business experience, scaling fast growth companies to exit.  Founder CEO Somayeh Taheri leads UrbanChain from BASE in Manchester Science Park.  She said: “Sales at UrbanChain is about customer training, and a safe onboarding journey to the local markets. This needs an expert team who knows how to communicate a foundationally new model to our customers. They also need to have agility in the sales process and continuously learn from their journey. “Kelly has already provided innovative contributions to the discussions around how to improve our markets. I am particularly pleased that we have added a talented director who can be a female role model to our diverse team too. The sales team developed under Kelly’s supervision can cover different segments of the market for our model to be accessible to all.” Building, Design & Construction Magazine | The Choice of Industry Professionals

10 Tips To Avoid Construction Delays

10 Tips To Avoid Construction Delays

When it comes to construction projects, time is money. Delays can derail budgets, frustrate stakeholders, and disrupt carefully planned timelines. But what if avoiding those delays is more about strategy than luck? The good news is that with a proactive approach and a focus on efficiency, you can keep your project on track and avoid costly setbacks. Let’s dive into some proven tips that can make all the difference. 1. Build a Strong Foundation with Planning The most successful projects are born out of meticulous planning. Before a single shovel hits the ground, take the time to map out every detail. From defining the project’s scope to scheduling key milestones, clarity at the outset prevents confusion and the costly consequences of poor planning down the line. Why is planning so essential? It allows you to identify potential bottlenecks, allocate resources effectively, and anticipate challenges before they arise. If you’re working with a Raleigh construction company, for instance, a detailed roadmap ensures both you and your contractors are aligned, reducing the risk of miscommunication and missteps. 2. Choose the Right Team A project’s success hinges on the people behind it. Partnering with experienced professionals – from contractors to project managers – sets the tone for smooth operations. But expertise isn’t the only factor; communication and collaboration matter just as much. Here’s the thing: no matter how good a team’s credentials look on paper, they need to work well together. Misaligned priorities or poor communication can cause delays even among the most skilled groups. Invest time in vetting your team’s capabilities and ensuring their values align with your project goals. 3. Embrace Technology for Better Coordination The construction industry has come a long way with tools designed to streamline processes. Project management software, drones for site surveys, and real-time communication platforms can make a world of difference in ensuring everything runs on schedule. Why does this matter? Technology minimises human error, improves accuracy, and enhances transparency. For instance, using software that tracks project timelines allows you to quickly identify delays and adjust before they spiral into bigger issues. 4. Secure Permits and Approvals Early One of the most common causes of construction delays is waiting on permits and approvals. Navigating regulatory requirements can be a time-consuming process, especially if you’re unfamiliar with local laws and procedures. To avoid this pitfall, start the permitting process as early as possible. Engage experts who understand the legal landscape and can expedite approvals. Being proactive not only keeps your timeline intact but also prevents the frustration of unexpected delays. 5. Stay Flexible with Contingency Plans No matter how well you plan, schedule delays and unexpected issues can arise. From supply chain disruptions to uncooperative weather or natural disasters, some factors are beyond your control. That’s why building flexibility into your schedule is key. Create contingency plans for the most likely scenarios. What will you do if materials are delayed? How will you respond to sudden labor shortages? Having answers to these questions beforehand ensures you can pivot quickly when challenges arise without derailing your entire project. 6. Prioritize Communication at Every Level Effective communication is the backbone of any successful construction project. It’s not enough for the project manager to be in the loop—every stakeholder, from contractors to suppliers, needs to understand their roles and responsibilities. Establish regular check-ins and encourage open dialogue. For example, a weekly progress meeting can highlight potential issues before they become critical, allowing the team to address them promptly. The goal is to create an environment where information flows freely, fostering collaboration and accountability. 7. Source Materials Strategically Supply chain hiccups are a leading cause of construction delays. To mitigate this, work closely with suppliers to ensure materials arrive on time and in the right quantities. It also helps to have backup suppliers in case of unforeseen disruptions. How can you take this a step further? Consider ordering materials in phases to align with the project timeline, rather than all at once. This reduces storage costs and the risk of damage or theft while ensuring availability when needed. 8. Monitor Progress and Adjust as Needed The best-laid plans mean little if you’re not actively monitoring progress. Regular site visits and progress reports keep everyone accountable and allow you to spot delays early. Use these check-ins to ask questions like: Are we meeting our milestones? Are there recurring issues that need addressing? By staying hands-on, you can keep the project moving smoothly and avoid small setbacks snowballing into significant problems. 9. Foster a Safety-First Culture Safety and productivity go hand in hand. Accidents on-site not only put workers at risk but also lead to costly delays. Prioritizing safety – through training, clear protocols, and regular inspections – creates a work environment where projects can proceed without unnecessary interruptions. Remember, a safe site is an efficient site. When workers feel secure, they’re more likely to perform at their best, contributing to steady progress. 10. Evaluate and Learn from Every Project The final step to avoiding future delays is learning from past experiences. Conduct a thorough evaluation at the end of each project to identify what went well and where improvements are needed. Why is this step often overlooked? Many teams rush to move on to the next project without reflecting on the last. Yet, taking the time to analyze successes and failures equips you with invaluable insights to apply moving forward. Conclusion Construction project delays can be frustrating, but they’re not inevitable. By planning strategically, leveraging technology, and fostering open communication, you can keep your projects on track and your stakeholders happy. After all, delivering on time isn’t just about meeting deadlines—it’s about building trust and a reputation for excellence.

Why Choose Sea Freight Over Air Freight in Australia

When transporting goods across borders, choosing between sea and air freight can feel like deciding between a slow, steady ship or a speedy but costly jet. While air freight may get your cargo there faster, sea freight remains the workhorse of global trade. For sea freighters in Australia, sea freight offers cost-effective, sustainable, and flexible solutions for businesses of all sizes. Let’s dive into why sea freight might just be your business’s best bet. Key Takeaways Understanding Sea Freight and Air Freight Sea freight and air freight serve different purposes in the world of logistics: The choice largely depends on the type of goods being shipped, the budget, and the delivery timeline. Sea freight is the clear winner for most businesses looking to maximise efficiency and minimise costs. Cost Comparison: Sea Freight vs Air Freight If cost is a significant factor (and let’s be honest, it usually is), sea freight is hard to beat. Here’s why: For Australian businesses that import or export goods regularly, sea freight provides significant savings that directly benefit the bottom line. While ships take longer to deliver cargo, they produce significantly less carbon dioxide per tonne than planes. This makes sea freight attractive for businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprint and align with sustainable practices. Many sea freighters in Australia are adopting eco-friendly initiatives, such as using low-sulphur fuels and optimising shipping routes, further enhancing sea freight’s sustainability. Challenges and How to Overcome Them While sea freight offers numerous advantages, it’s not without its challenges: Choosing an experienced freight partner helps you navigate these challenges with minimal disruption.
