J Tomlinson recognised as top socially responsible company at National Energy Efficiency Awards

J Tomlinson’s compassionate approach has been recognised on a national level after the company was announced Social Responsibility Company of the year at the recent National Energy Efficiency Awards. The coveted accolade, which marks the company’s fourth national award to date, was presented at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Friday 18 February, with over 650 professionals working in the energy efficiency sector in attendance. Nine companies were shortlisted for the title, with J Tomlinson announced as the winner following a comprehensive judging process in which all nominees were assessed on the impact they have had within their local communities. The building, maintenance, energy and refurbishment specialist, was commended for its targeted and far-reaching approach to social responsibility, spanning key areas such as employment, emotional and physical wellbeing, skills-building, decarbonisation, boosting local economies, and promoting affordable warmth. Some of the comments from the judging panel included: “[J Tomlinson], through its application process, demonstrated a commitment to deliver a level of responsibility across the business, its customers and environments that it operates.  This would appear to be a company that has pride in its position, a considered delivery of social responsibility and measured interactions that support all around the business.” “A very impressive broad range of support and dedication to education and local employment, charity donations and volunteering whilst also demonstrating care for their own staff and sub-contractors.” The company also took home third place in the National Renewable Heat Installer and Multi-Measure Project of the Year categories – the latter in recognition of the highly sustainable refurbishment and restoration of Ilkeston’s Toll Bar House building, which is not only forecast to reduce carbon emissions by 13 tonnes per annum, but also to create over 90 jobs in the local area. Mark Davis, chief executive at J Tomlinson, commented: “On behalf of the entire team at J Tomlinson, we are extremely proud to have been recognised for our commitment to enhancing the lives of the individuals and communities we work with every single day. “I have always been a very firm believer in the power of excellent partnerships, and I am all-too-aware that the impact we have collectively had would not have been nearly as significant or far-reaching if it was not for the strong relationships we have with our clients – all of which are built upon striving to achieve and exceed shared goals. For this reason, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all our clients and our people for playing such a vital role in transforming lives in line with our One Team ethos. This award is for you.” J Tomlinson has experienced a consistent string of success at previous regional and national energy efficiency awards ceremonies, including winning Renewable Heating Project of the Year following a ground source heat pump project that is saving residents 40% on their heating bills and providing client Bromford with over £570k worth of RHI and ECO funding.

J Tomlinson and Jigsaw Homes Midlands get new over‐55s Nottinghamshire apartment scheme off the ground

J Tomlinson is making excellent progress on a brand‐new, Nottinghamshire‐based apartment scheme for older people which will be managed by client Jigsaw Homes Midlands with funding from Homes England. Set to complete in early 2022, Stockinger House in Burton Joyce will comprise a mix of high‐quality one and two‐bedroom apartments designed for older people, and has been specially designed to provide residents with an independent living environment with capacity for some ‘extra care’ accommodation, including assisted bathrooms, guest suites, and an on‐call social alarm. Works commenced before Christmas 2020 and included demolition of Lendrum Court – a former sheltered housing complex created in 1972 by Basford District Council that will be replaced by the new, purpose‐built development. As part of this exciting design and build project, J Tomlinson will also be undertaking landscaping works, including creation of a car parking area and electric vehicle charging infrastructure works. The development is situated just off Lambley Lane in Burton Joyce, and forms part of Jigsaw’s long-term commitment to providing much‐needed affordable homes. J Tomlinson has worked with Jigsaw Homes Midlands– formerly known as Gedling Homes – to deliver a range of new build and refurbishment projects over the past three years. Other housing schemes undertaken in partnership with Jigsaw include the design and build of 12 apartments and six houses at York Mews in Arnold; internal and external upgrades to six‐storey flats at Walton Court, Carlton, as well as refurbishment and upgrades to communal areas at Moreland Court – an independent living scheme for older people ‐ also in Carlton. Tony Shenton, managing director at J Tomlinson commented: “We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Jigsaw Homes Midlands to create much‐needed accommodation for over‐55s in Nottinghamshire. Masonry and pre‐cast flooring works are ongoing, with roofing works due to commence next month, and we will continue to work closely with our client and the wider project team to ensure that the completed development is fit for purpose and aligns with Jigsaw Group’s vision.” Karen Sands, Head of Independent Living at Jigsaw Homes Midlands said: “These new apartments will offer a modern, light, spacious and safe environment that meets the expectations of local older people. We are really pleased to see this development progress and look forward to welcoming our new residents in February 2022.” J Tomlinson, whose head office is situated in Beeston – just 30 minutes from the development site – is a leading provider of new build, refurbishment, engineering and maintenance services to clients across the Midlands, Yorkshire, Central and Southern England. J Tomlinson supports Gas Safety Week 2018

Building services firm and gas specialists, J Tomlinson, are proud supporters of Gas Safety Week 2018, which will be taking place between 17th – 23rd September. The campaign, now in its eighth year, is designed and co-ordinated by Gas Safe Register, and aims to raise awareness of the vital importance of gas safety and ensuring gas appliances throughout the home and workplace are properly maintained. A poorly maintained gas appliance has the potential to lead to devastating consequences, including gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning – the ‘silent killer’ which causes approximately 25 deaths in England and Wales every year. In 2017, thousands of organisations across the UK signed up to help promote awareness of gas safety amongst their customers and local communities. This year, J Tomlinson will be running a week-long campaign starting two days ahead of Gas Safety Week, where the company will be spreading the word at the Nottingham City Homes Annual Fun Day with activities and educational materials for all the family. Whilst parents will be provided with informative leaflets and flyers, children will be able to take home gas safety-specific puzzles and quizzes designed by Gas Safe Register – and will even have the chance to get a themed glitter “tattoo” of the symbolic blue flame. While gas has become an important part of our lives and its increasing prices make people to look for gas gift cards, it is very much required to use this resource efficiently. The company will also be taking to social media to manage a six-day Gas Safety quiz, which will test consumers’ knowledge on the topic, such as how often gas appliances should be checked, as well as startling statistics about gas safety in the UK. Individuals with the most correct answers will be entered into a prize draw to win a carbon monoxide alarm and a Love2shop gift card. J Tomlinson, which primarily operates across the East Midlands, West Midlands and Yorkshire, works with numerous organisations to provide a 24/7 gas service to clients including Ashfield District Council, emh homes and Bromford Group. 100% of gas work is undertaken by the firm’s directly employed workforce – offering a 3* gas service and 4* star gas service to customers. Steve Kirkland, managing director (repairs and maintenance/facilities management) at J Tomlinson, commented: “J Tomlinson has provided gas servicing, maintenance and installation for over 20 years, and we pride ourselves on our knowledge and expertise in the areas of safety, workmanship and customer service. With over 21 million UK households using gas for heating, hot water and cooking, we are passionate about promoting the importance of gas safety to our customers and local communities, and strongly encourage all homeowners to ensure their gas appliances are checked on an annual basis by a Gas Safe registered engineer, which you can verify by checking their ID card.” Jonathan Samuel, chief executive for Gas Safe Register, said: “It’s great to see so many people supporting Gas Safety Week this year to help spread important and, in some cases, lifesaving advice about gas safety. It’s so vital that we help people to know not to cut corners with gas and always ask a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer to work on gas appliances at their home to stay gas safe.” Nottingham-based J Tomlinson offers a range of integrated building services which include construction, mechanical and electrical services (M&E), facilities management, refurbishment, repairs and maintenance and regeneration. The company works in many sectors, including supported living, care home and senior living, health, commercial, industrial, blue light and heritage. HBV’s Living Scheme Approaches Completion

Developer HBV, which specialises in supported living, has announced that its latest scheme will be completed in March 2018. Based in Tile Hill, Coventry, ‘Jardine Crescent’ is made up of a single block of sixteen apartments and a single block of eight apartments, together with an additional ten apartments that are designed to ease the life of adults who require high levels of complex care. “We are delighted to be nearing completion on this important supported living development. We are committed to improving the standards of supported living accommodation and are confident that Jardine Crescent will be a much-welcomed addition to Coventry. Our sincere thanks to all the Council officers and politicians who have engaged in such a supportive manner,” said Alastair Sheehan, Head of Development at HBV. J Tomlinson, the appointed contractor, is reaching work completion now and residents will be able to move in after the final interior is fitted out. The future tenants will be referred by Coventry City Council and local adults with disabilities will finally have their own home. Additionally, they will benefit from on-site support staff. Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, said that being able to offer help to those vulnerable is really important for the region and the local communities: “This is a really good example of what can be done using the specialist supported living model which is a fantastic approach to dealing with the shortage of quality accommodation for vulnerable adults.” Seeing the existing housing stock upgraded and improved is not the only purpose of this scheme and HBV’s philosophy is to make sure that better outcomes are achieved for residents and the wider local community. Vulnerable adults don’t have to live with parents or in sheltered accommodation and can now have their own apartment and can start feeling more independent and in charge of their life. ATEL will also provide assistive technology, such as automatic doors, care call system, and access control.
