Work set to start on 258 homes in Ely

Construction work is about to start on a new development in Ely which will deliver more than 250 new homes and a new cricket pitch and pavilion in the city. Linden Homes, part of the Vistry Group, is preparing to build 258 properties at its new Willow Woods development, off Lynn Road. The site forms part of the wider Orchards Green scheme, which is set to bring 1,200 new homes and a range of community facilities to North Ely over the coming years. Linden Homes will deliver 212 private homes and 46 affordable properties available for local people through rent or shared ownership at Willow Woods. The development will comprise a mix of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom houses and apartments. As part of the planning agreement for the development, Linden Homes will also be providing a new ECB-approved cricket pitch and pavilion. Laura Thomas, sales manager at Willow Woods, said: “We are looking forward to the first bricks being laid at our new Willow Woods development as work gets underway on bringing these much-needed new homes to the north of the city. “Our range of one to five-bedroom houses and apartments, which have been thoughtfully designed to reflect the historic nature of Ely, means there is something for housebuyers at all stages of the property ladder. “As the development forms part of the new Orchards Green scheme, residents at Willow Woods will have access to a wealth of new facilities and will benefit from a country park, trim trail facilities and an off-site cycleway.” Willow Woods is named after the timber used to make cricket bats, chosen to link with the cricket pitch and pavilion Linden Homes is also providing at the site. With work set to start imminently, the developer intends to release the first homes for sale at Willow Woods this spring. Linden Homes is currently building new homes near Ely at its Laithwaite Gardens development in Sutton. For more information, visit www.lindenhomes.co.uk/eastmidlands

Linden Homes Site Manager Is Awarded Prestigious NHBC Pride In The Job Award For A Second Time

Linden Homes’ Minerva Heights Site Manager Lewis Little has been awarded a second NHBC annual Pride in the Job Award, which celebrates the unique role site managers play in crafting homes of outstanding quality. This is the second time Lewis has been awarded the national accolade, after previously winning the award for his work at Linden Homes’ Kilnhurst Gardens development in Verwood, which demonstrates his ongoing commitment to his work and overall professionalism. Lewis (31) has been selected from a pool of more than 10,000 as one of the 450 site managers to win the Quality Award which is the first category of the NHBC’s Pride in the Job Award 2021. This year’s winners have been chosen following a thorough assessment of the skills demonstrated on site including consistency, leadership, attention to detail, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety. Through delivering this annual award to the very best site managers in the UK the NHBC promotes the important role that the job entails, providing new homes that are delivered on time, on safe sites and to the highest quality standards. Lewis joined Linden Homes in 2016 and has managed the successful Minerva Heights development since August 2020. Lewis commented: “I am absolutely over the moon for the site team and all the contractors at Minerva Heights to win the Pride in the Job award. It is hugely deserved by all involved and this project has been a pleasure to run from the start. Our focus has been to deliver a 5-star quality to our customers and to win the NHBC Pride in the Job award along with that is the icing on the cake. Thank you to all involved.” Steve Ott, Construction Director for Vistry Southern, commented: “The Pride in the Job awards are highly regarded within the housebuilding industry, so we are very proud that Lewis has won for the second time. As a housebuilder we are honoured to have only the most dedicated of site managers among our ranks who ensure that nothing is overlooked when it comes to providing the highest quality during the construction of our new build homes. On behalf of Linden Homes, we would like to wish him the best of luck in the upcoming rounds of the competition.” Lewis has earned this win after twelve months of rigorous judging, with this round of the competition having begun in July 2020. The Quality Award winners are now set to enter into the next round and compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn, with the national Supreme Award winners unveiled in January 2022. The site will be home to a number of key facilities including a new medical centre, school, retail units and a care home, which will be developed by Frontier Estates, a leading developer in the healthcare sector. Linden Homes pledges support to armed forces personnel

Ahead of this year’s Armed Forces Day, top-10 UK housebuilder, Linden Homes is pledging to continue its support for ex-armed forces personnel and veterans. As the housebuilding division of Galliford Try, Linden Homes also supports Galliford Try’s signing of the Armed Forces Covenant. With this the company pledge to treat those who have served in the armed forces and their families with fairness and respect.   Signing the pledge is part of a continuing commitment by Linden Homes to help ex-armed forced personnel. Linden Homes recently supported Matt Knight into a career in the housebuilding industry, following his time in the Royal Navy. After a three year career in the armed forces, Matt joined Linden Homes’ South Division as a trainee site manager in November 2018. Matt has begun to build a new career in housebuilding and has used the skills he gained in the military to help do this. Matt explained: “There are a lot of similar skills you need for a successful career in the Royal Navy and as a site manager. In both roles you need to have excellent communication skills, as you’re often dealing with people from all different walks of life – whether that’s the different trades you’re working with on site, or dealing with company directors, that can be like dealing with Navy officers.” Matt has built his skills and expertise in his new career, and taken advantage of opportunities on offer to him through Linden Homes: “Linden Homes has been fantastic when it comes to offering training to help me get where I want to be. So far, I’ve undertaken the Site Management Safety Training Scheme, as well other relevant health and safety to ensure everyone working on site is doing so in a safe manner. In the coming months I will be undertaking an NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations, which will help me progress to assistant site manager and then hopefully to site manager”. Andrew Hammond, CEO of Linden Homes, said: “In the run up to Armed Forces Day we are extremely proud to be able to continue to support former service men and women into new careers. During his time in the Royal Navy, Matt learnt many life skills that make him ideally suited to the role of site manager. He is organised, has excellent communication skills and knows how to work as part of team. Housebuilding offers a diverse range of job opportunities and we always welcome applications from ex-armed forces personnel and former veterans who are considering a change in career.” Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday 29 June with a number of events taking place up and down the country, to find an event near you visit www.armedforcesday.org.uk/find-events. Housebuilders sponsor the Housebuilder Mountain Marathon, supporting the Youth Adventure Trust

Three of the nation’s biggest housebuilders Linden Homes, Taylor Wimpey and Redrow Homes have committed a combined £90,000 in sponsorship to the Housebuilder Mountain Marathon, taking place in September 2019. With each of the housebuilders contributing £30,000 in sponsorship, the money raised will go towards the funding of the Youth Adventure Trust, which provides adventure camps and day activities for vulnerable 11 to 14-year olds. The Mountain Marathon is a two-day event covering some of the UK’s most difficult terrain across the Lake District. As well as providing sponsorship for the marathon, volunteers from the three housebuilders will be entering the race, working in teams to battle across unfamiliar environments, reflecting the work and mission of the Youth Adventure Trust.  For 27 years the Youth Adventure Trust has hosted adventure camps for children selected by schools and social workers, aiming to inspire personal confidence and improve teamwork.  Over the course of its history, the Trust has helped over 3800 vulnerable young people realise their potential. Looking to the future, the Youth Adventure Trust is aiming to double the number of children it works with by 2022. Linden Homes CEO, Andrew Hammond, said: “It’s fantastic to be joined by our colleagues from across the industry to continue our support for the Youth Adventure Trust in 2019, through our sponsorship of the Housebuilder Mountain Marathon. We share the same passion for developing skills in young people and helping them realise their potential. Karen Jones, HR Director at Redrow commented: “Our employees who participated last year spoke so highly, we were keen to get more involved. We are passionate about inspiring the next generation and supporting charities, therefore, sponsoring this fantastic event made perfect sense.”   Pete Redfern, CEO of Taylor Wimpey, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in this event, for the second year running.  Whilst the event is a challenge, it is also good fun and a great way to bring the housebuilding industry together, whilst raising money for the Youth Adventure Trust, one of Taylor Wimpey’s five national charities.”

Galliford Try Partnerships Celebrates Start of St Augustine’s Development

Most recently, Galliford Try Partnerships has undertaken a ceremony to celebrate the commencement of its much-welcomed project in Oldham, the St Augustine’s development. Having taken place on the 16th of March, the ceremony was attended by key representatives at both Linden Homes and Galliford Try Partnerships, as well as Councillor Jean Stretton, Leader of Oldham Council. For those in attendance, the ceremony incorporated the initial breaking of ground at the site, formerly one of a school, before then undertaking a tour around the vast site, expected to be providing circa 54 new homes in the integral Greater Manchester area. The properties themselves will be divided into a mixture of both three and four bedroom properties which will be made for sale under the Linden Homes name. Prices for the homes are expected to click in at £175,000 and up, thus providing a reasonably affordable value for would-be residents to consider. In accordance with this, the company has already received a clamouring of interest in the properties, with many individuals keen to reserve them already. Of course, this is of no real surprise given the increasingly buzzing commercial flow of traffic through Greater Manchester, as well as the growing need for increased residential assets to facilitate further growth in the area. The development has, thus far been welcomed by Oldham Council and many members of the local community, no doubt providing an shred of hope in the present times of housing concerns and the lack of affordable housing presently on the property market. Commenting on the ceremony and what it means to the company, Galliford Try Partnerships’ Regional Director, Brendan Blythe, highlighted how the ceremony also signified a big step forward in the company’s overarching goals and ambitions, allowing the organisation to make progress in its endeavour to deliver quality homes for growing families, local professionals and the greater populace. He added: “Since we acquired the site from Oldham Council we have had lots of interest and we are very optimistic about the success of this site, our first in Oldham.”
