Mobile Mini wins national accolade at UK Customer Experience Awards

Mobile Mini UK, one of the leading worldwide providers of portable accommodation and secure storage containers, flew the flag for the construction industry last night at the prestigious 2022 UK Customer Experience Awards (UK CXA®22) held at Wembley Stadium. The company headquartered in Stockton-on-Tees, scooped the award for Best Customer Experience for SMEs alongside their partner ThinkWow. Mobile Mini competed with iconic companies including Sky, BT, Octopus Energy and Virgin Media on awards night and in addition to the SME victory, were also named runners-up to Sky in the Best Employee Driven CX category. Over the past 18 months, Mobile Mini – which has a fleet of over 40,000 portable units for a variety of storage solutions and 16 strategically placed sites throughout England, Scotland and Wales – has worked in partnership with ThinkWow to enhance its customer experience strategy and training. This has resulted in an increase in average Net Promoter Scores (NPS) from 71 to 80+, increased revenue (aiming for a third record-breaking year) and higher volumes of customer feedback. After a deep dive into Mobile Mini’s operations, the team were able to fulfill an end goal of achieving a positive future strategy. The focus of the new vision is to empower all staff and customers to both provide and receive the best possible experiences. Over 90% of Mobile Mini employees attended launch calls for the CX Project and almost 70 team members were interviewed about their experience of working with their customers.  In addition, many customers also provided external views to help build insightful and accurate improvement objectives. Simon Gray, Regional Director North & CX Project Lead commented, “It is fantastic news winning this award at a prestigious UK-wide Customer Experience event and is great recognition of what our UK teams do each and every day to make sure that we provide a World Class Customer Experience. What really stands out for me is that we already achieve world-class NPS scores and yet our teams are constantly striving to improve how we look after our wonderful customers. Well done to all our teams across the UK.” Chris Fay, Commercial Director at Mobile Mini UK added, “We are delighted that Mobile Mini UK has been recognised in this way and we are very proud of all our team who have contributed to our ongoing award-winning Customer Experience strategy. The win has been a collaborative effort in every sense. It is truly employee-driven, with everyone from branch managers to HGV drivers having their say and playing their part in shaping innovative new approaches and solutions to our customer experience.” This success builds on the Mobile Mini and ThinkWow’s joint GOLD award win earlier this year in the Customer Experience category at the 2022 UK Business and Innovation Awards (UK B&IA) and another win this month at the 2022 Speedy Expo for Partner of the Year – Customer Solutions.

Earlier this year, Mobile Mini and ThinkWow were named the GOLD winner of the Customer Experience category at the 2022 UK Business and Innovation Awards (UK B&IA). The company has a fleet of over 40,000 portable units for a variety of storage solutions and 16 strategically placed sites throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Post-pandemic, it was clear that customer needs, expectations and behaviours had significantly changed and Mobile Mini understood maintaining standards, as well as improving approaches, had become more essential than ever. Over the past 18 months, Mobile Mini has worked in partnership with ThinkWow to enhance its customer experience strategy and training. This team of experts undertook a deep-dive review of company culture, shared objectives and customer feedback, then use detailed insights to expertly design a positive future strategy. The end goal remains to empower all staff and customers to both provide and receive the best possible experiences. Over 90% of the 380 members of staff at Mobile Mini have contributed to this project, with many customers also providing external views to help build insightful and accurate improvement objectives. These activities have resulted in an increase in average NPS scores from 71 to 80+, increased revenue (aiming for a third record-breaking year) and higher volumes of customer feedback. Increased training, the creation of a dedicated customer experience team, interactive workshops, customer journey mapping workshops with cross-functional employee groups and the implementation of a customer steering group (comprised of multiple roles and seniority levels) has all contributed to empowering employees to deliver great CX locally. Rebecca Brown, CEO of Think Wow said, “We are delighted that Mobile Mini has been recognised in this way and we are very proud to partner with them on their ongoing Customer Experience strategy. This has been a collaborative process in every sense and truly employee-driven, with everyone from branch managers to HGV drivers having their say and playing their part in shaping innovative new approaches and solutions.” One of the driving forces behind this project from the Mobile Mini side was Simon Gray. On being shortlisted for the CX Leader award in recognition of his efforts, Simon said, “I am proud to have been named alongside a diverse group of impressive CX professionals, but what makes me incredibly proud is the way in which all our Mobile Mini teams have engaged with what we are trying to achieve. Our people look after our customers every day to such a high standard and yet we have all wanted to get just that little bit better. Our results speak volumes for what our people have done this year as we have achieved NPS scores in the 80’s in multiple months which is an incredible achievement. “It’s also fantastic that our CX efforts over the last 12 months have been embedded in 3 of our Golden Rules: People are our most valuable asset, The Customer is King (or Queen) and Everyone contributes. It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Dan & Rebecca from ThinkWow and utilising their considerable CX knowledge and experience to help us reach even higher CX standards.”

Container experts donate 75 computers to North East school

One of the leading worldwide providers of portable accommodation and secure storage containers, Mobile Mini UK, has provided pupils at Monkwearmouth Academy in Sunderland with over £15,000 worth of computer equipment this month. The donation has been made as part of a company-wide commitment to supporting the next generation of talent in the region. All of the 75 Lenovo ThinkCentre PCs were purchased less than three years ago at £695 each. They have been collected from Mobile Mini sites across the UK over the past four months and each computer has been professionally wiped and prepped by the IT team. Every unit has now been delivered for use by the school students ahead of this summer. This initiative was born out of an internal move at Mobile Mini towards laptops and remote working flexibility during the coronavirus pandemic. The company previously invested over £220,000 in laptops and docking stations for staff across 16 strategically placed sites throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Rather than looking to recoup funds from existing computer towers within the business, Mobile Mini saw an opportunity to make a useful contribution to the benefit of the local community. Chris Fay, Commercial Director says, “Mobile Mini has a longstanding history of providing opportunities for young people. From charitable campaigns to apprenticeships and internships, we remain fully committed to supporting and encouraging the next generation. These computers were only purchased in 2019 and remain perfectly operational, so rather than being sold or recycled, we reached out to Monkwearmouth Academy, who are located close to our UK head offices. “We have seen first-hand what a difference having up-to-date technology can make to our employees and we wanted to take this opportunity to share those benefits with emerging talent in the region. Everyone at the school has been highly appreciative of our donation and we are thrilled to see the positive effect this will have in contributing to the learning of students.” Monkwearmouth Academy is a state secondary school in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, for pupils aged between 11 and 16. On the recent donation by Mobile Mini, Paul Moorhead, Facilities Manager said, “These computers will be used as part of our new library and learning resource centre. Here, students will have the opportunity to use the computers to help them improve their literacy levels through programmes such as Accelerated Reader and Lexia. Improving literacy levels helps to enrich all areas of our student’s lives.” Mobile Mini UK is headquartered in Stockton-on-Tees and has a fleet of over 40,000 portable units for a variety of storage solutions and strategically placed sites throughout the UK. Over 7% of employees at Mobile Mini are qualified Mental Health First Aiders and in recent times the business has invested in life-saving defibrillator equipment for all branches as well as installing new safety features on an upgraded fleet of crane-mounted trucks.

Revolutionary shut-off feature installed on new Mobile Mini fleet

Mobile Mini UK, one of the leading worldwide providers of portable accommodation and secure storage containers, has continued its innovative approach to safety by implementing a brand-new automatic shut-off feature as standard across its latest fleet of transportation vehicles. The feature relates directly to crane operations and by utilising enhanced on-board AI, reduces the chances of human error as well as increases the capability of overall lifting and remote-control operations.  Crane safety features consist of slew restrictors, front legs for improved duties and increased stability and auto remote shut down after 30 seconds, whilst features such as ADR kits, cone holders, warning signage, low view windows in passenger doors and no access to climb onto the body ensure the Mobile Mini fleet is amongst the safest on the road. This is compounded by several additional twist locks, providing even more confidence that loading is a safe and secure process. The new fleet has been unveiled in partnership with global vehicle manufacturer Scania and crane and tractor unit specialists Mac’s Trucks. Three new trucks containing the revolutionary shut-off feature have already been delivered with five more on the way this year. It is expected that 30 new trucks will arrive in total, delivered at appropriate intervals over the next 24 months and replacing 60% of the current fleet, which has been in place for the last 7 years. Alex McDade, Sales Executive at Mac’s Trucks said, “As a joint partnership between Scania and Macs Trucks, we are pleased to currently have 15 vehicles in production and further vehicles due for Q2 next year, ranging from 18T to 32T gross vehicle weights all to be fitted with specialist crane vehicles ranging up to 71tm capacity with full 360 degree operation meaning we can deliver anywhere with the vehicle. Scania are continuing their long relationship with Mobile Mini, now with a 7-year repair and maintenance contract across all parts of the UK. At Macs Truck, we are building the bespoke body work and crane fitment, such as the Scania R500 6×2 tractor unit. Fassi cranes have been chosen again due to their reliability and brilliant back up network across the UK. Mac’s new front legs set up has been the latest improvement to Mobile Mini vehicles, offering better performance, especially over the front of the cab.” Mobile Mini is FORS Gold accredited and ensure all advancements are made in compliance with these standards. Mobile Mini has invested £3million on upgrading its fleet over the last 18 months and has injected another £5.5million ahead of next year, ensuring the new fleet is the most modern, reliable and advanced on the market. Additional features found on the new 2021 fleet include bespoke segregation barriers, mirrors on storage walls and cut-away doors for added visibility and safety displays that give fingertip info and guidance to crane operators. This is combined with a recent roll out of SMUK’s Halo system and 360 cameras and lights, providing high-definition views of driver activity and a direct link to telematics configurations. Nick Sesevic, SHEQ Advisor at Mobile Mini UK said, “Mobile Mini is synonymous with safety excellence and has an enviable safety record of no major incidents over the past two years. We anticipate this technology will become the future industry safety standard and look forward to seeing them out on the road and on-site with our customers very soon.” Andy Cowell, Mobile Mini UK Transport Manager said, “Changes to our fleet are not quick fixes, but we are fortunate to be one of few companies in our industry to purchase rather than lease vehicles, giving us added flexibility and control. Coupling this with the best-trained drivers across the largest crane mounted fleet of its kind in the UK, underpins our recent accolades and reputation for world-class customer service.  The next 12 months represents the most we have ever invested in our fleet, as we work closely with our preferred suppliers to secure the highest quality crane mounted trucks in the industry. Our thanks to Scania and Mac’s Trucks for their continued efforts and assistance in improving the next generation of vehicles.” Last month, Mobile Mini installed a new digital reporting system, Assure by SHE Software, supported by QR codes on high-visibility jackets and across branded materials such as site posters, key-fobs, coasters and more. This ensures risk assessment, incident and health & safety reporting, asset, maintenance, service tracking and compliance is easier than ever for ground teams facing hazards to flag the issues or obstacles they face. Earlier this year, three branches were awarded Merits from the British Safety Council and the UK SHEQ team were named ‘Safety Team of the Year Highly Commended Winner’ at the International Safety Awards. Mobile Mini has also rolled out life-saving defibrillator equipment to all of its UK branches for the protection of customers, clients and over 370 members of staff.

Mobile Mini SHEQ team named ‘Team of the Year’ by British Safety Council

Mobile Mini UK’s SHEQ team has been crowned ‘Safety Team of the Year Highly Commended Winner 2021’ this month by the British Safety Council at the International Safety Awards. Out of 292 organisations of all sizes and sectors, including businesses from the UK, Africa, Asia, India, mainland Europe and the Middle East, only Mobile Mini UK succeeded in being crowned overall Team of the Year highly commended winner. These awards, which are now in their 63rd year, span all sectors with significant representation from construction, manufacturing, oil, gas, mining, power and utility organisations. They aim to celebrate organisations that have shown dedication to keeping their workers and workplaces healthy and safe. The team of the year category recognises outstanding achievements resulting in a significant improvement to health, safety and wellbeing, from a collaboration of stakeholders. The study submitted by the Mobile Mini UK SHEQ team focused on alliances and teamwork during the evolving coronavirus pandemic and was reviewed and adjudicated by several safety professionals.  This detailed how the different teams within Mobile Mini quickly aligned and adapted to ensure that the risk of Covid-19 could be adequately managed internally, allowing operational teams to provide a prompt service externally. Key features included the fast procurement of equipment and PPE, the rapidly facilitated switch from office working to home working, skeleton office teams working safely in socially distanced modified offices and the continued successful delivery of units to the frontline. Underpinning all of these changes was the Covid-19 risk assessment process, which was designed to ensure that all stakeholders had ongoing input. All teams responded admirably to these changes and no employee was injured as a result. This steadfast engagement and teamwork were some of the biggest factors in the business safely navigating through the worst of the pandemic and undoubtedly contributed to the judging panel’s decision when deeming Mobile Mini as worthy Team of the Year winners. Chris Watcham, Health and Safety Director at Mobile Mini UK said, “Winning this highly respected award is a truly remarkable achievement given the company we were in. This is an incredible endorsement from an internationally recognised and sought-after awarding body.  We believe this benchmark and the illustrious company we find ourselves in, further establishes our unwavering commitment to Safety, Health and Environment. We have always been proud of our industry-leading health and safety record, but this has become even more integral to expectations post the coronavirus pandemic. Although this was a safety award, the obvious input and teamwork from all teams within the business made this possible. Our thanks go out to all teams across the business who continue to make achievements like this possible.”  Last month three Mobile Mini UK sites, North East, North West and South Wales, achieved Merit safety from the British Safety Council. Recognisable businesses to have successfully obtained passes, merits or distinctions previously include the likes of BAE Systems, GlaxoSmithKline, Sodexho, Kier, Wilmott Dixon and Volker. Congratulating Mobile Mini on their award, Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said, “The long list of winners of the International Safety Awards shows that an increasing number of companies are embracing the management of health and safety risks as an enabler of business, benefiting people, companies and society but none more so than Mobile Mini UK, as an overall highly commended winner. The team has shown a true alignment with the vision of the British Safety Council that no one should be injured or made ill through their work – anywhere in the world. My warmest congratulations to Mobile Mini UK as overall 2021 Team of the Year winner, you should be truly proud of your achievement.”

Mobile Mini installs life-saving defibrillators across 16 UK sites

Mobile Mini, one of the leading worldwide providers of portable accommodation and secure storage containers, has recently installed defibrillators at every one of its sites across the UK. This includes all branches, support centres and the company headquarters located in Stockton-on-Tees. An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm of someone suffering a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) who is unconscious, unresponsive or not breathing properly.  If required, it can send electric shocks to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm and is used in conjunction with CPR to treat cardiac arrest.  Mobile Mini employs approximately 370 members of staff in a variety of roles all over the UK. The business has built an incredible reputation for the quality of its solutions and products but never forgets that its people are the most valuable asset. The defibrillators that are now installed on the Mobile Mini sites are the Heartsine 360P models and are designed to provide fully automatic shocks as required. This model utilises a defibrillation method of biphasic waveform with impendence compensating and escalating energy. The pads are contained within a removable carry case and there is no need to plug into an external power supply. The equipment has mostly been installed in supervised areas and is kept on a secure hanger at an accessible height, so they are reachable by the disabled. Instructional steps are needed for an AED to be used effectively, but this is made easy with full-automation capability. Operation involves just two steps, turning the device on and sticking pads to the patient’s chest. The advanced technology within the AED monitors heart rhythm and then decides if to shock, when to shock and at what power to shock at. The equipment is capable of instructing users when it is required to deliver a shock, indicated by a green readiness light, and also talks through the entire process as it undertakes each step.  Staff training on using this equipment effectively is also set to be conducted soon, removing any confusion or stressful decision making in a potential emergency. The British Heart Foundation advises, that for every minute it takes a defibrillator to reach someone and deliver a shock, their chances of survival reduce by up to 10%. The chances of surviving a cardiac arrest jumps from just 6% to 74% if a defibrillator is deployed within 3 minutes. Chris Watcham, Health and Safety Director at Mobile Mini UK says “We are very proud to say that life-saving equipment is now on-hand for every staff member at our branches all over the UK. Whilst purchasing a large quantity of defibrillators requires a significant investment, we understand how important this is. The well-being and safety of our employees, clients and customers remains our number one priority and we have begun exploring the procurement requirements for some clients who have expressed interest in following our lead.” The defibrillators have been provided to Mobile Mini by AADEFIB, a Lincolnshire based operation that has provided over 1000 of these life-saving machines to businesses and communities throughout the UK. Andrew Deptford who owns AADEFIB, says, “Emergencies can happen when least expected, so every company needs to take preventative steps seriously. These defibrillators are rugged, reliable and I consider them to be amongst the best value and most user-friendly machines available. They are built by the company that supplies around 70% of the UK’s Ambulance and First Responder crews. It is fantastic that Mobile Mini has rolled these out across all of their UK locations as this shows a genuine desire to provide the safest workplace imaginable.  It has been a pleasure dealing with the professionals at Mobile Mini.” In addition to ensuring the best possible environment is provided for its employees, Mobile Mini applies the same mindset towards supporting its suppliers, ensuring payments are made quickly and fairly, even throughout the recent unprecedented health crisis. The business has gone above and beyond during the coronavirus pandemic to ensure all suppliers are paid faster than the industry average, with the majority receiving funds within 17 days over the last 12 months.
