EnviroBlok production rate increases by a third

Since the launch of net zero EnviroHoard™ in 2021, Panthera Group contracts for the sustainable site protection hoarding system now exceed 53% of all hoarding sales in the business; a figure that far outperforms predicted forecasts. This is no doubt assisted by the wider construction sector’s drive for net zero. As a result, the in-house production of patent-pending EnviroBlok™ has increased by over a third and Panthera Group has not only recruited additional production staff, but has had to procure additional steel moulds to meet demand. The unique, low carbon block integrates 50% GGBS providing a saving in CO2 of 194 kg / m³ compared to CEMI concrete. It is produced to Panthera’s specification by Hanson Concrete and poured into unique moulds designed by Neal James, Managing Director of Panthera. The blocks are one element of the vertical integration strategy pioneered by Neal who wanted to take control of as many areas of production as possible to ensure quality and stock levels. Despite global economic challenges, the company’s order book for its EnviroHoard™ system is surpassing all expectations. “A combination of new projects and the switch from timber hoarding to EnviroHoard™ has driven demand of the systems low carbon 800kg support block. This is now a full-time operation at Panthera Group and so we are delighted to welcome, Kieran and Harry, who have joined the company to supports its manufacturing of EnviroBlok. With unique fixings inherent in the design, this is a skilled role and one that assures a quality product. I am delighted our focus on sustainable hoarding is having a real impact across the construction industry.”

Panthera wins multi-service contract for city centre building refurb

A major makeover underway at a building located at the foot of the Millennium Bridge, between St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tate Modern, has been secured with EnviroHoard™ sustainable hoarding from Panthera Group as the first part of a contract for multiple site services.  Millennium Bridge House was originally completed in the late 1980s following demolition of the previous site and is set to be redeveloped by contractor ISG after approval by The City of London Corporation. Along with the sustainable site hoarding solution, Panthera Group will provide a variety of site services for the duration of the project. This includes the internal fit out for welfare facilities such as ISG offices, subcontractor offices, toilets, changing rooms, showering facilities and a canteen along with a security hut at the entrance. The £65 million project included a stipulation to redevelop the building sustainably by embracing circular economy, carbon reduction and resource efficiency principles. To that end, ISG worked with Piercy and Company Architects on a design to retain the majority of building structure whilst reconfiguring the internal layout to optimise space for retail facilities, offices, a roof level restaurant and roof. A new façade will embrace natural light and create energy efficiency throughout the building.   One of the overall objectives of the project is to achieve BREEAM RFO 2014 (Excellent) which means sustainability compliance in the supply chain is key. Robert Ingram, Managing Surveyor at ISG, opted to work with Panthera Group on the project;  “I have worked with the Panthera team for over 10 years and have always found them to be extremely professional and collaborative in their approach. It made sense to use EnviroHoard™ for our perimeter hoarding as it is a verified net zero carbon solution. Panthera was wholly supportive during the tender process; providing the environmental assessment and generally offering a great service to our project teams. Phase one works are underway and this includes the first elevation of EnviroHoard™ which is looking good. Phase two is imminent and will involve the site set up services.” EnviroHoard™ offers many commercial as well as environmental advantages. The flexible, modular system is quick to install and can be easily relocated as and when required.

Panthera Group awarded national framework agreement for EnviroHoard™

Following the successful national rollout of award-winning, net zero carbon hoarding solution, EnviroHoard™, Panthera Group is delighted to announce it has been awarded a sole supplier nationwide framework by John Sisk & Son. The move follows the publication of Sisk’s ambitious road map that defines targets and actions to reduce the company’s waste intensity by 50%. Using EnviroHoard™ enables the company to make a start on its waste reduction journey at the boundary of every project. It is widely acknowledged that the construction industry accounts for approximately 60% of material use and a third of all waste in the UK. Traditional painted plywood hoarding exacerbates the problem when it reaches end of life as it is often disposed to landfill. EnviroHoard™ was conceived to eliminate the use of timber and plywood and embrace a circular economy concept of recyclability and reusability. The system’s uPVC panels are manufactured from post-industrial uPVC and can be used multiple times before being recycled. The part recycled galvanised steel frame and ultra-low carbon blocks are also designed for re-use over many projects.  With a view to adopting circular economy principles into the business from 2023, Sisk undertook a comprehensive appraisal of EnviroHoard™, culminating in the decision to award the national framework.  Craig Murphy, Supply Chain Director of John Sisk & Sons Ltd, oversaw the negotiations;  “We are delighted to have recently renewed our strategic partnership with Panthera Group. It is a partnership that we feel will continue to generate great value for our business and that is underpinned by a significant strategic alignment between the two organisations. As part of our 2030 Sustainability Roadmap Sisk has committed to reducing our carbon and waste intensity through adopting circular principles. Panthera’s EnviroHoard™ hoarding system, which has been verified as net zero carbon, ensures our site teams can further contribute towards our drive to decarbonise our projects”. Sisk analysed the benefit of EnviroHoard™ on an assumed project of two years and found that the system would offer 70% lower embodied carbon reduction than the equivalent plywood hoarding method, along with additional climate positive benefits including carbon offsetting and tree planting directly attributable to the individual project. Unlike plywood hoarding which requires on-going maintenance, EnviroHoard™ offers zero maintenance cost saving benefits. Using a typical installation example of 2500m of EnviroHoard™ versus plywood hoarding, the figures were compelling: Embodied carbon saving of 177.14 tCO2e 211 trees planted Equivalent of taking approximately 60 family sized cards off the road Saving an estimated 100 no. 30-50-year-old softwood trees from being needlessly cut down Of note to the team was that the longer the project duration the higher the carbon embodiment saving. A further unintended consequence of using EnviroHoard™ is the cost savings against the purchase of traditional hoarding due to the global rise in the price of timber. Neal James, Managing Director of Panthera Group, is delighted that his decision to invest in a net zero hoarding system has been vindicated with another framework award; “This is fantastic news for all the team at Panthera and testament to the credibility of EnviroHoard’s™’ sustainability credentials and the commercial viability of the product. Our relationship with Sisk goes back over 10 years and this is our second framework award; this time as a sole supplier.  We are looking forward to supporting Sisk’s decarbonisation goals over the coming years”.

Gold caps off successful awards season for Panthera Group

As we head into the festive season, there was one more award ceremony to attend this year for our Managing Director Neal James and the team from Panthera Group’s Hoarding division. The SME Award Finals were held at Wembley Stadium on Friday 3rd December and this time the team came away with a well-deserved GOLD award in the sustainability category for their NetZero Carbon hoarding solution, EnviroHoard™. The SME Awards are open to small and medium sized enterprises with less than 250 employees and are designed to celebrate the success of these industrious, hardworking and enterprising companies.  SMEs are widely acknowledged for driving innovation and competition in many economic sectors and the quality of entry into the 2021 awards clearly supports that. Categories included Business Innovation, Best New Business, Family Business of the Year and individual business leader awards, amongst many others. In a year where the Environmental Agenda has become so important, arguably the Sustainability Award is and will be one of the key awards going forwards. Neal used the quieter period over the first lockdown to bring his vision for a completely new product design to life. EnviroHoard™ is the first ever NetZero Carbon hoarding solution with the a bespoke-designed support frame and low carbon concrete block to complement the uPVC recycled and recyclable panels. He is delighted at the recognition the product has received since its launch in early 2021; “We have never entered any awards before this year, so to walk away as the Winner of the Construction News Specialists Awards, Silver in the National Building & Construction and Design Awards and Runner-up in the Kier Green Dragon Awards – all in one season – was already pretty overwhelming. To cap this with the Gold Award in the National SME Awards – which are designed to recognise businesses of our size – is the perfect end to the year for us.” For more information about the multi award-winning EnviroHoard™ please visit: www. pantheragroup.com/sustainable-construction-site-hoardings/
