Invisible Systems monitoring has reduced total fuel wastage by a third at VolkerFitzpatrick’s Magna Park Site.

VolkerFitzpatrick, one of the UK’s leading engineering and construction companies, has successfully reduced fuel wastage by a third (34%) on its Magna Park construction site in Corby, Northamptonshire. This remarkable achievement was made possible through the installation of fuel monitoring systems provided by Invisible Systems, a leading Manchester-based Internet of Things (IoT) solution provider. Following the highly successful trial, that also resulted in considerable savings in costs and reductions in carbon emissions, the monitoring systems have been permanently implemented and usage recommendations have been shared across other divisions within the VolkerFitzpatrick business portfolio.  Magna Park in Corby, Northamptonshire is one of the UK’s largest dedicated logistics and distribution parks, with VolkerFitzpatrick responsible for construction. Invisible Systems’ intelligent I-System monitoring solution was installed, to deliver data and insights on energy usage on site, together with the company’s energy management system Eco Lync. Eco Lync intelligently switches off your non-essential assets when the demand for energy spikes, subsequently reducing carbon emissions and saving on business costs.   VolkerFitzpatrick was then able to analyse the performance data from the systems to identify unnecessary fuel usage, with a focus on reducing fuel wastage. This in turn, led to the implementation of a range of improvements both on site and to their supply chain to ensure the plant is performing at its most optimal.  One example of this is the monitoring discovered that there were more than 300 litres of fuel being used over the weekend when nobody was on site. Therefore, the on-site team, with the support of Invisible Systems’ partner Sunbelt Rentals optimised EcoLync to ensure all power to the heating and hot water would be switched off during evenings and weekends.  During the trial phase, VolkerFitzpatrick saved an average of 550 litres of fuel per week and reduced on-site weekly fuel consumption by 34%, driven by a massive 89% reduction in overnight fuel usage and a 40% reduction in weekend fuel consumption. This led to a financial saving of hundreds of pounds weekly and a substantial weekly carbon reduction of 1.26 Tonnes of CO2e.   Following the trial, VolkerFitzpatrick has continued to use the systems and in addition, VolkerFitzpatrick has recommended monitoring should be used on all projects with a battery storage unit and Eco Lync going forward.   Jamie Robertson, CEO of Invisible Systems, highlighted the significance of monitoring energy consumption from the construction stage, stating, “Working with our client’s means giving them data and insights that can then lead to proven results –ultimately saving them money and contributing to cutting carbon emissions. Prologis UK’s latest building at Hemel Hempstead is a BREEAM Outstanding record breaker

A brand new distribution centre developed and owned by Prologis UK has achieved the highest sustainability rating of any project in its category. Completed recently, the 233,860 sq. ft. building – known as DC3a – achieved a BREEAM rating of 88.8% (Outstanding). This is the highest rating recorded for a new building assessed under the BREEAM 2018 New Construction Manual (Industrial – Shell and Core). Completed last month, DC3a was built by Prologis UK in partnership with lead contractor, VolkerFitzpatrick. BREEAM has provided a holistic assessment of the development, based on categories focussing on innovation, health & wellbeing, energy, materials, waste, water, transportation, land use & ecology and pollution. The speculative development of DC3a, means that Prologis UK now has more than 770,000 sq. ft. of logistics space at Maylands Business Park. This brings the company’s total development footprint in Hemel Hempstead to more than 1.5m sq. ft. Martin Cooper, Vice President, development management at Prologis UK, said: “We are very proud of this record-breaking BREEAM rating, which underlines the care and commitment that we give to developing buildings that really are best in class and built for the long term. Gloucestershire Airport awards contract for delivery of runway refurbishment

Gloucestershire Airport runway refurbishments to begin in January 2022, with completion expected in the summer VolkerFitzpatrick awarded contract to deliver works Delivery will be project managed by Ridge & Partners LLP Phased delivery will enable airport to remain operational throughout Gloucestershire Airport has appointed VolkerFitzpatrick, one of the UK’s leading engineering and construction companies, to deliver a Civil Aviation Authority (CCA) approved upgrade to Gloucestershire Airport in 2022. The work will be carried out in four phases, with the primary focus being the resurfacing of the crosswind (04-22) and main (09-27) runways. There will also be new runway lighting and upgrades to signage and drainage, as well as the installation of below ground infrastructure in readiness for a new radar system.   One of the airport’s three runways will remain open while works are carried out, albeit operating at reduced capacity. When all work is complete, the airport’s existing ‘north/south’ runway will permanently close to make way for the development of the new business park, CGX Connect. Phase one works, starting in January 2022, will see the crosswind runway resurfaced. The aim is for this work to take place throughout the night, after airport closure, to minimise any potential impact to operations. Phases two and three will follow in Spring 2022, with work taking place during the day and throughout the night to ensure work is completed as quickly as possible. This phase will see the resurfacing of the main runway, new runway lighting installed, upgrades to signage and draining, and the installation of below ground infrastructure. Phase four will be the testing and commissioning phase of the project in readiness for anticipated completion and resumption of normal operations by Summer 2022. London Development Chooses VolkerFitzpatrick

A multi-use development in London has chosen VolkerFitzpatrick to deliver £27 million worth of construction works. The firm will refurbish and extend 77 Coleman Street, constructing 8,000 ft 2 of office space and over 16,000 ft 2 of retail and leisure space. “We are delighted to have been selected by Kajima, to deliver this exciting project in central London. Utilising our high quality construction and fit out capabilities, 77 Coleman Street will be a significant addition to our portfolio of multi-use developments in the capital,” said Stuart Deverill, managing director of VolkerFitzpatrick’s Building division. VolkerFitzpatrick’s involvement in the project includes fiting the office spaces out to a CAT A specification, including the shell and core structures, ceilings, floors and installation of key services. Meanwhile, the retail and leisure units will feature a complete base build, concrete walls, flooring, lighting and installation of fire alarms. The units will be fitted with retail frontages at ground floor level and terrace areas will be constructed around the upper floors. A new four-metre high reception and breakout area will also be delivered as the building’s main entrance and a new public street, named Nun Court, linking Coleman Street with Moorgate. “This is a technically complicated development and a really important project for us in terms of the expected quality and programme, so we’re delighted to place its delivery into the reliable hands of the VolkerFitzpatrick team,” commented James Starkey, project director for Kajima. The multi-use development project was first launched in April 2018, and is scheduled for completion in Q4 of this year.
