Electrical apprenticeships and training are in safe hands during COVID-19 crisis, SECTT tells electrical industry

The Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT) has reassured the industry that electrical apprenticeships and training are in safe hands following the introduction of a range of emergency measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. As well as offering ongoing help and guidance to all apprentices, SECTT is working closely with the Scottish Joint Industry Board (SJIB), SELECT and colleges across Scotland to support the collective efforts of employers and colleges throughout the current crisis. To ensure clarity across the board, SECTT – the body charged with managing electrical installation apprenticeships in Scotland – has already communicated nationally and regionally with all colleges, employers and apprentices via email, phone, social media and the OneFile platform. It will also hold an online meeting with all colleges in the week beginning 20 April, to devise a delivery model and take into consideration the needs of employers, apprentice and trainees, so no-one is disadvantaged. Anne Galbraith, CEO of SECTT, said: “We know these are unprecedented times, but we are doing all we can to help apprentices continue with their studies through alternate channels, while maintaining the high standards required. “The Electrical Installation Modern Apprenticeship is a vocational qualification and has safety implications, so we must ensure competency throughout the course, especially in the ‘Key Safety Critical’ areas. “Therefore, SECTT will be looking to complete the coursework as near to normal as possible, but this will depend on when we return to free movement.” Apprentices and trainees are being encouraged to keep in contact with their college lecturers with any coursework they can complete online, and by completing their ePortfolios through OneFile which their training officers will be marking. The objective is to reduce the overall workload when returning to normality to ensure apprenticeships remain on track. Ms Galbraith added: “Apprentices’ health and wellbeing is, of course, the most important aspect to consider and I appreciate sometimes it can be difficult to focus and concentrate on anything at present. However, learning might provide the distraction needed to ensure a healthy mindset. “We want to assure all employers that the SECTT team is still here and happy to answer their questions, we will work with them to allow them and their apprentices to get back to work and back on track as best we can.” SECTT was established in 1990 by SELECT and Unite the Union to manage the SJIB Training Schemes and today runs the only industry approved training scheme for electrical installation apprenticeships in Scotland. Ms Galbraith concluded: “When we do get back to normal, I can assure all apprentices that SECTT and the colleges will continue with the professional level of care to ensure we catch up with least disruption. “We will get through this, so in the meantime, look after yourself and your families, stick to the government guidelines and stay safe.”

Landwood Group Launches New Commercial Management Division

Landwood Group Launches New Commercial Management Division

Landwood Group has strengthened its offering with the launch of a new commercial asset management division. The Manchester-headquartered firm of chartered surveyors has appointed director Anna Main to lead and develop commercial asset management services for new and existing Landwood Group clients. With more than 12 years experience, Anna joins Landwood from Avison Young, formerly WHR Property Consultants, where she was head of asset management and property management after gaining in-house expertise in a number of client-side roles. Anna is joined by a senior team including experienced client accountant Ceryn Coughlin, property management surveyor Glenn Taylor and head of facilities management Barry Cargill.  The new team is already managing assets for existing Landwood Group clients, including, FRP and Grant Thornton, as well as winning instructions from a number of Manchester-based property trusts and funds. Anna, who lives in Wilmslow, said: “Having worked client side for a number of years, I have experienced first hand the poor quality service often provided to clients in commercial asset management. “Often the big corporate players charge large fees but offer a poor service that is tied up in rigid processes. This is not what the Landwood Group team believes in. “Landwood Group has provided me with the opportunity to join like-minded professionals to bring a fresh approach to asset management.  “I am extremely fortunate to have been joined by a talented and experienced team who I know share this ethos and want to do the best for our clients.  “We all believe in a hands-on approach and have the experience to not only manage assets for our clients but the expertise to significantly improve portfolio performance and generate strong returns.” Instructions already received include the management of the 130,000 sq. ft. multi-let office building Telford Plaza, the management of three retail and industrial assets for Derwent Lodge Estates and the management of a multi-let office building in Altrincham on behalf of Nikal Ltd. Anna, 41, added that Landwood is winning business from clients who value quality service and appreciate a director-led approach to managing and improving their property. She added: “We believe in paying close attention to the initiatives that add real value to a property or portfolio for our clients under management. “Being an agile team means that clients truly get a bespoke service that is tailored to their exact requirements. “The Landwood Group difference is already evident to our clients and we are really looking forward to building a client base of high-net worths, property trusts and property owners who appreciate a higher level of service.” Landwood Group managing director Mark Bailey said: “The new decade is an exciting one for Landwood Group. A re-brand is complete and our new website is ready to be revealed to the market.  “At the same time the new commercial asset management division officially launches – not only strengthening the group offering but providing a new service area for growth. “We are delighted to have someone with Anna’s expertise and reputation on board and our clients have already seen the benefit of our enhanced offering. “Together with her team, Anna will grow our commercial services to ensure that Landwood Group is the go-to choice for anyone with an asset that needs valuing, managing or selling.”

Havering Regeneration Programme Starts

Havering Regeneration Programme Starts

Work is set to begin on the first site of phase of Havering Council’s 12 Estates regeneration programme. Demolition has reached completion on Napier and New Plymouth House, Rainham, as the site is prepared for the development of 126 affordable homes, with a number earmarked for families, and a further 71 homes for private sale targeted at local buyers. All residents who have been moved off the site to enable the regeneration have been guaranteed the right to return. Havering Council and developer Wates Residential have invested more than £1.3 million in social value in the Havering community during the first phase of work on the site. Since work began in July 2019, 72 local people have been hired or have benefitted from training initiatives in a huge boost to the Havering economy. As part of the project, over 700 Havering students have also been engaged via activities including site visits, apprenticeships and work experience placements.  Cllr Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said: “I am very excited to celebrate such an important milestone in our partnership with Wates Residential, and to acknowledge the impressive impact that our 12 Estates regeneration project has already made on our local economy.  “We have barely completed demolition on the Napier and New Plymouth site and have already seen such a significant investment into the things that matter to the borough. Seeing these figures laid out highlights the fact that regeneration is about much more than simply building new homes – we are building a legacy for future generations of local people.” Adrian Fennessy, Operations Director for Wates Residential, commented: “As we finish demolition and move towards the construction phase at Napier and New Plymouth House, it is great to be able to take time to celebrate our excellent social value record to date. We are well ahead of our targets for training, employment and investing in local people, and will use these figures as inspiration to continue our work delivering a borough-wide legacy with our partners, as well as new high quality homes.” This £1.5 billion 12 Estates programme will see around 3,500 high-quality new homes delivered in Havering over the next 12 to 15 years, doubling the amount of council rented accommodation and more than doubling the number of affordable homes.

What Does An MIG Welder Do?

MIG stands for (metal inert gas) it is also the same when one says GMAW (Gas Metal Arc welding). It is a process in which an electric arc forms between a consumable wire electrode and the workpiece metal, which heats the workpiece metal, causing them to melt and join. You can read more about this here.  Method of metal transfer does not just include one but there are four primary methods. One is the GMAW or MIG called globular, short-circuiting, pulsed-spray and spray. Each one has its advantages and limitations when used.  MIG, on the other hand, is a technique that is versatile and suitable for both thick and thin sheets. Most welders use this process as it is very flexible working on different sheets. It is widely used in different industries and sectors as it accounts for more than 50% of almost all weld metal that is deposited. Its flexibility, suitability, and deposition rates have more advantage for various mental tasks. 4 Types of Welding Processes MIG/Metal Inert Gas Welding This machine works to fill in the spot that joins two metals together. Using this process, the welder doesn’t need to change the electrodes in between their welding tasks. The welder just fills in the joint that is being welded and continue to the next.  There are four main parts of a MIG welding machine. First, the MIG welding power supply that provides the electricity to generate heat. Next, is the wire feed system that usually feeds the wire from the spool to the weld joint. There’s also this handle with a trigger that controls the wire feeder that is feeding the wire on the spool into the weld joint. Lastly, is the shielding gas-guards which are the welder’s weld from the air. MIG works best with sheet metals.  TIG Welding-Tungsten Inert Gas Welding  This is also known as Heliarc welding for retired or older welders as this is a manual welding process that is used before. They differ in the way the arc is generated and how the filler metal is filled in or brought in. This is a tougher process to learn but this is also versatile when a welder is dealing with different materials. Based on the noted site, the welder needs to use one hand to hold the torch that generates the arc and their other hand to add the filler metal towards the weld joint. This process is effective and will produce high-quality results as it takes time and can be used for smaller welds since it is more precise.  Stick Welding: Shielded Metal Arc Welding  This process includes, of course, an item in stick form. The electrode on this process that uses the metal comes in a stick form. Electricity is used here to melt a rod, filler or stick that can melt both the metal joint and electrode at one time to bring these 2 metal pieces together while filling the joint with the metal filler simultaneously. Usually used for pipelines, auto repairs, steel construction, and most home steelworks since it is low cost.  Flux Cored Arc Welding This one uses an arc between the consumable electrode and the weld pool with the shielding from the flux that is usually found inside the tubular electrode. An extra shield may or may not be used from a gas supply. This process penetrates well into the base of your works. This is can also be used in indoor and outdoor applications. Mostly for maintenance work, production/fabrication and construction work.  Whatever process is chosen is up to the welder and will be decided depending on what work needs to be done. You can explore websites like http://www.weldingmachinereviews.com to find out more information. Top 5 Skills of a Welder First and foremost is attention to detail, welding steelworks and the like needs to have good eyes for their work. To achieve the design and framing of each work, a welder should be skilled in making clean, accurate lines and cuts. Welders should always maintain focus and a good eye towards what they are working on to achieve their goals or final result. Next is dexterity, not everyone has been gifted with skilled hands. Each person is always good at something but not all the time one has a skillful hand. Good dexterity is being able to coordinate with your fingers and hands as well as one’s hand-eye coordination to finish a single welding task. Third, physically fit and good physical abilities. Of course, a welder should be physically healthy in performing welding tasks. Good eyesight, not too skinny and not too fast so you can hang on buildings, carry or lift steel (as you know metal pieces are very heavy), move freely and with accuracy. Quick or fast Learner, welders should always know the do’s and don’t of their job. They also need to keep up with the latest machines and be able to learn how to use them in a very effective and skilled way. They ought to have a sound understanding of their safety and others when performing the said task. Lastly, stamina and strength. Yes, this is very important as well because welders are always under heat and pressure from their machines as well as the surrounding areas where they usually work. A welder does not work in an office where there is air conditioning, instead, they work while hanging at the side of the building, on the rooftop, outside an establishment, or even hanging down by a bridge. One can never tell where and what they need to be prepared for when welding. They even have to carry and lift heavy machines or steel materials while they work.

Kubota Introduces Three New Machines

Kubota, a leading manufacturer of construction machinery, has announced the launch of three new 5-tonne machines. The KX060- 5, U56-5 and U50-5, have been developed in line with customer feedback to ensure the machines are aligning with the demands of the industry. The launch of the three machines means Kubota’s customers continue to have the choice of either a reduced tail swing or the conventional excavator. Each machine has been designed with the operator in mind, starting with a larger cabin, enhanced insulation, improved visibility, and a multitude of new comfort features. The exterior of the machines has also been redesigned, to give each a modern look.  The KX060-5 offers a conventional tail swing which can be used in different applications to the U-series. It is also the machine most suitable to heavier attachments due to the off-set of the conventional tail swing weight. The U56-5 has a powerful engine and is the largest reduced tail swing machine in the range. The machine is built to have good lifting capacity and will be a great machine for an owner or operator.  The U50-5, which will be available from July, has been designed as an entry-level machine and built for the hire market. The size of the machine means it is well suited to working in smaller spaces and will have excellent site access. All machines come fitted with the following features: Better access to information: A full-color, high-resolution 7” LCD screen and jog-dial navigation come fitted as standard. This provides the operator with all the information needed, from AUX flow adjustment to important maintenance information, as well as detailed alerts. Increased safety and comfort:  A high visibility orange coloured seatbelt and alert functions have been included to encourage the operator to wear the seatbelt, reducing the risk of serious accidents for those using the machines.  The new CAB structure has a noise reduction of 5dB, down to 74dB, providing a more stress-free working environment for the operator. A double adjustable air suspension has been included on L models to maximise on comfort and allow easy height adjustment via an air compressor. Built for the future: With increasing sustainability measures being introduced as standard across the globe, the new machines come fitted with a Kubota Original Direct Injection Engine with CRS and DPF Muffler, the engines for all three models are fully Stage-V compliant. Better access for maintenance: The new and improved DPF reduces maintenance by increasing the service intervals for both the regeneration filter and ash cleaner. When maintenance is needed, however, all three machines have been designed to provide easier access to those working on the machine – with wide opening bonnets and radiator cleaning.  Glen Hampson, Business Development Manager for Construction at Kubota UK, said: “We’re proud to be welcoming three new models into our 5-tonne range. The new range builds on the success of its predecessors when it comes to how the machines operate and overall functionality. The new machines, however, offer improved comfort and safety to the user. It is important for us here, at Kubota, that we’re providing machines that get the job done, but are also enjoyable and comfortable to use. The KX060- 5, U56-5 and U50-5 are just this.”

Five Tips To Make The Most Of Your Kitchen Extension

It would not be wrong to state that out of all the other rooms in the house, the kitchen would most probably be the busiest one. A kitchen is not just a place where food is cooked; it is a place where families spend time, it is a place where socializing is done during birthdays, dinners, and parties, it is the place where you go to check the fridge in the middle of the night, it is a place where a lot of memories are made.  But there comes a time when you grow out of your house and are faced with two options – move into a new home or renovate and make extensions. Research shows that an increasing number of people are opting to renovate and add extensions to their homes instead of moving into newer ones. Along with internal factors, external factors like economic conditions and rising property prices also play their part in the decision making of people to move or renovate.  A kitchen extension will not only provide you with a room that is a hybrid of a diner and a kitchen with a bright and light-filled atmosphere, but it can also give you a wow-factor when you’re trying to sell your home. When you do renovate your kitchen, you are increasing the square footage of your home, resulting in an increased value of the property. A kitchen extension could potentially cost you £30,000, with the cost depending on flooring, size, and kitchen type, among other factors.  There are a lot of ways you can go about your kitchen extension, and they depend upon the type of property you have, what you want the kitchen extension to be used for, how much you can spend, and of course, how creative you are. Here’s a list of some tips which you can use to make the perfect kitchen extension that is best suited to your needs.    Use your space wisely Unless you are living in a massive estate with acres of land at your disposal, there is a high chance you are working with a limited amount of space. It is imperative that you use this place wisely to make the extension efficient and effective. There are many innovative ways to use up every square inch of the area.  For instance, you can use the storage space efficiently to free up more floor space for other things. There are a lot of storage systems you can get from the market at reasonable rates, which use the space available in an optimal way. By freeing up extra space in the kitchen as a result of smart storage, the room can be used as a social focal point to spend some quality time with your friends and family.   Hire an architect Architects are professionals who specialize in the designing and practical usage of available space and resources for a building, and there is no argument that a professional architect will bring the best out of your kitchen extension. If your extension is simple or straightforward, an architect is not essential because builders and structural engineers can take care of that.  However, if you plan on making your extension project a fancy and complex one, it is better to use the services of a professional architect. Not only will an architect create the best use of the available space and make the space aesthetically pleasing, but they will also make sure that the electrics and plumbing are done in the right places, and the plans for the kitchen extension are structurally sound. Therefore, if you plan on building a fancy kitchen extension and have the budget, it is best to hire the services of a professional architect.  Maximize the light in the kitchen extension Excellent and bright lighting can prove to be one of the essential components of making your kitchen extension a success. Lighting is not only crucial for good and clear visuals, but it also helps create an atmosphere that is social and entertaining.  Your kitchen extension can potentially displace a part of the natural daylight that would have otherwise reached the other rooms, so the lighting might need to be supplemented. You can do this by adding a roof lantern, or a series of roof lights. A roof lantern can be an excellent tool to flood the kitchen extension with light.  For a more intimate setting, you can also opt for mood and ambiance lighting for the kitchen. This setting can be achieved by task lighting, under-counter spots, and specialty lamps. The market is flooded with contemporary, minimal, and efficient lighting fixtures that are cost-effective and aesthetically pleasing.  Use bi-fold doors to connect your kitchen with the garden Bi-fold entries can be helpful to make your kitchen extension awe-inspiring. If you have a garden in front of your kitchen, you can use bi-fold doors that open fully to make the garden a part of your kitchen. Not only will your kitchen feel connected with nature, but it will also add even further extra space, and provide you with endless new ideas.  There are multiple things you can do then. You can have a nice open-air breakfast with fresh food directly from the kitchen, host a dinner for friends, or hold a birthday party. All of these events and functions will become richer in experience due to the free-flow provided by opening up your kitchen to the garden.  Make good use of colors Do not be afraid to use colors. You do not have to go monotone or play safe. You can experiment with bold colors, try unusual color combinations, and give the whole place a playful vibe.  The color theme of your kitchen extension does not necessarily have to follow the general color theme of your home, and by experimenting and playing with colors you can separate it from the rest of the house and give the kitchen extension its own distinct personality.  Conclusion It is not just the economic conditions and rising property prices

Blockchain – Past, Present and Future

Blockchain is a technology that remains incomprehensible to many participants in the IT market and other areas. Company IBM believes that blockchain able to produce qualitative changes in the global economy, leading to the emergence of second-generation economy. But in order for this to happen, considerable effort must be made. Now more and more companies are starting to work with blockchain – a technology that allows you to restructure human economic activity, making this industry more efficient. In addition, the blockchain allows you to optimize other areas as well, since finance is far from the only area for working with this technology. Despite the fact that the technology has been on the market for about five years, it is only at the beginning of its formation and popularization. More information can be found at https://bitcoins-evolution.com How it works What is blockchain? If simplified, then this is a distributed storage system for records, access to which is available to any user on the network. Entries entering the system form the so-called blocks, which, in turn, are linked into a single chain. From here came the name blockchain – a chain of blocks. Almost immediately after the blockchain entered the fintech services market, IBM Corporation realized its promise and began to study the possibilities of technology and developments in this area. It is very important to realize that blockchain is not only bitcoin, during forex trading hours, a cryptocurrency that has been talked about and written about over the past few years. The scenarios of the possible use of this technology within the organization or as part of the interaction of individual companies are many. So, using the blockchain, you can organize financial transactions between banks around the world without a single center, develop a supply system of almost any type (leasing cars, assembling complex devices, etc.), create a fast and reliable system for concluding contracts between a buyer and a seller, or the recipient of the service and its provider, organize a mailing system. Blockchain can be extremely useful for organizations that exchange information, valuable data, but do not trust each other too much. In this case, the technology allows to simplify and improve the processes of exchange and storage of information related to the interaction of these organizations. In general, the benefits of using blockchain are still not entirely clear to company executives. In order to help realize the possible profit from working with the blockchain, IBM has developed a fundamentally new cloud services based on this technology. They help ensure the reliable operation of a new class of distributed financial applications.  And if you combine the blockchain with the Internet of things (IoT), then in this case, users of the system get the opportunity to work with data. An example is the fixation of the temperature of a sent parcel with a record of all received data that is transparent and becomes available to the sender, recipient and carrier company at the time of registration. Both the sender and the recipient will receive all recorded changes in the parameters of the package in real time. IBM Information Training Despite the fact that the promising nature of this technology is obvious to many companies and specialists, most of the companies still do not work with blockchain. But information about the technology is spreading quickly, and company leaders, having heard about its wide capabilities, instruct developers to implement these capabilities in enterprise services and applications. Well, so that developers better understand what blockchain is, IBM runs the so-called IBM Garages. These are peculiar service stations that are either already open or will be organized in the near future in major cities of the world. In addition, the IBM Global Business Services division at one time announced plans to provide advice on blockchain issues in such areas as logistics, finance, and banking. Future of Blockchain Blockchain future is expected to be bright compare to other cryptocurrencies. As it is easy to use, and use at the international level. Most of counties authorize this cryptocurrency. One can get huge knowledge about blockchain on the internet. Blockchain is a transparent, secure, and porous system this technology will change the way people think about exchanging value and assets.
