Kingston Council working with Richmond Housing Partnership Group to create affordable housing in the borough

Kingston Council is working with Richmond Housing Partnership Group (RHP) to deliver three new residential development schemes that will bring 106 new affordable homes to the Royal Borough over the next two years. One of these is South Place, Surbiton, which will be made up of 49 new affordable homes, with a combination of London Affordable Rent, London Living Rent and Shared Ownership. This exciting project, which will include basement parking and a new landscaped area within a mile of Surbiton station, is due to complete in autumn 2021. This development is being funded by the Greater London Authority (GLA). Cllr Emily Davey, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Kingston Council, said:  “I was shown round this exciting new scheme. The layout is designed to promote a sense of community with a courtyard garden. The fact that it will be 100% affordable with London Affordable Rents, London Living Rents and Shared Ownership means it will serve the needs of all our community. “ RHP Group is a housing association based in South West London. They currently own or manage around 10,000 good quality, affordable homes to meet the needs of people who cannot otherwise afford to live locally across South West London. These include homes for social rent and Shared Ownership.  David Done, Chief Executive at the RHP Group said: “We’re delighted to be delivering this exciting development in Surbiton. A key part of our purpose is to deliver homes people can be proud of, for communities that need them most. Therefore, the fact that there will be a mixture of tenures within South Place is really important to us. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank both Kingston Council and the GLA for all of their continued support with this special project.”

PLANNING APPROVED FOR SECOND PHASE OF NOTTS RIVERSIDE DEVELOPMENT

PLANS SUBMITTED by CPMG Architects for the second phase of the ‘Pelham Waterside’ housing development on Trent Lane in Nottingham have been approved by Nottingham City Council.  The first phase of 73 homes is nearing completion and phase two will see the construction of a further 12 houses and 27 apartments, located near the banks of the River Trent, close to Nottingham city centre and within the Waterside Regeneration Zone. Owned by Pelham Homes, the properties have been designed to embrace sustainability, community and nature, bringing new residents to the riverside location.  The wharf-style town houses create an attractive façade to the development with their combination of cream brickwork, timber cladding and dark aluminium windows. With extensive hard and soft landscaping throughout the development, the community of people that move into these homes will benefit from a high-quality public realm.  Steve Milan, associate and lead for the scheme at CPMG, said: “We’re delighted to have received planning for the second phase of Pelham Waterside. Our design ethos at CPMG is people, purpose, place, and these three principles drive all of our designs from every angle. However, the coronavirus pandemic has certainly driven home the message of how important our environment is to our wellbeing – both in our homes and in our access to quality outdoor space.”  The development has seen the regeneration of a brownfield site and has sustainability integrated into the design, incorporating thermally-efficient building fabric and the use of low-energy fittings throughout. A combination of good quality brickwork and timber cladding provide a natural feel to the buildings, which also feature generously-sized windows and Juliet balconies, to allow good levels of natural daylight and ventilation throughout.  Steve added: “The upper floors of both the townhouses and apartments benefit from large picture windows and roof terraces that offer views of both the River Trent and the city’s transforming skyline. We have also carried out external landscaping to create green public space around the mature trees on the eastern boundary of the site, to promote wellbeing and create inviting outdoor spaces.”  Traffic-calmed access roads into and through the site have been incorporated to ensure safe travel and encourage use of Nottingham’s ample public transport provisions.   Nick Gregory, director at CPMG, said: “At a time when our home city is undergoing a drastic transformation and major redevelopment in the city centre, these homes will bring new residents to the riverside area and rejuvenate a previously disused industrial site on the east side of Trent Lane.  “We have a great deal of expertise in delivering excellent residential schemes and creating new communities with beautiful homes, particularly within Nottingham itself, and we’re looking forward to continuing our work with Pelham Homes to make Pelham Waterside a reality.”  Allan Fisher, director of Pelham Homes, said: “We are really pleased to be contributing to the regeneration in this area of Nottingham. The designs produced by CPMG not just a new housing development, but one that attractively lies in and complements the surrounding area.”  The project team for phase two of Pelham Waterside is Couch Perry Wilkes, mechanical and electrical consultants and Curtins, structural engineers. Development progresses on £45m North East Lincolnshire residential site

Work is underway on one of North East Lincolnshire’s largest residential sites with developer E5 Living UK enlisting the help of Greater Grimsby MP Lia Nici to launch the project. The first phase of King’s Park in Scartho will see 78 bungalows built by constructor JemBuild, which secured the contract with E5 thanks in part to its commitment of using local labour and suppliers.  E5 Director Kevin Stevens was on site last week with JemBuild managing director Paul Barker as Lia Nici MP unveiled the names of the roads on the new village-style community, located next to Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales hospital.   The roads – Williams Way and Harrys Drive – that run off the newly named King’s Park Road have been named in tribute to the princess’s sons.  A retail centre including a convenience store will serve the new neighbourhood. The homes are part of a wider £45m scheme with outline planning permission for apartments for the over-55s and ‘step down’ and social care unit to support patients leaving hospital but who require on-going nursing care before returning home. E5 Director Kevin Stevens said: “It’s been a difficult year with Covid and restrictions and the builders have had to cope with a lot. We’ve had supplier issues like everybody throughout the UK but progress is happening and so far it’s going very well. We are on target to deliver everything within two years so we have some challenges but so far, so good.” Paul Barker added: “We’re currently working on five sites across the region but King’s Park is our largest project. It’s a great scheme for local businesses securing an initial two years of work which is rare in the construction industry and ultimately will offer huge benefit to the local community. “We have experienced significant supply chain issues with shortages in blocks, plaster and timber with potential shortages in insulation but good procurement has avoided delays to the project with the industry shortages. Fortunately, the 500,000 bricks for the whole development were purchased at project commencement in March 2020 so at least we won’t run out of bricks!” King’s Park was designed by Cleethorpes-based Hodson Architects, is being built by Humberston firm JemBuild and marketed by Crofts Estate Agents, which has offices in Cleethorpes, Immingham and Louth. Lia, who viewed the show home and met the developers, architects and builders delivering the scheme during a socially distanced tour on December 11, said: “This new development has some really thoughtful planning and house design, which helps to keep a village feel to the area. It nicely compliments the surrounding village and area’s architecture around Scartho.   “The two new road names also reflect the site’s history, connecting with Diana, Princess of Wales’ sons Princes William and Harry, which is a nice touch.”

Big-hearted company builds a mountain of donations to support foodbanks across Scotland

Employees from Cruden Building, part of the Cruden Group – one of Scotland’s largest independently owned and longest established construction businesses, are lending a helping hand to those most in need this winter by donating thousands of items to foodbanks across Scotland. Cruden staff across 21 different construction developments have got into the festive spirit by coming together to gather and make donations to foodbanks in the areas they are building in.  The equivalent of £25,000 worth of collections – a whopping 7.5 tonnes of food donations are now being delivered to local communities surrounding Cruden developments, and this will go a long way to helping those that are most in need this Christmas. Staff from Cruden Building, with support of foodbank charity, the Trussell Trust, organised the distribution to foodbanks throughout the country. The Group’s own registered charity, The Cruden Foundation, has also donated a further £5,000 on top of the £5,000 which has been raised by Cruden employees, their clients and supply chain companies through their Just Giving page which will be given to the Trussell Trust in Scotland to provide toys and additional food parcels over the coming weeks and months.    Allan Callaghan, Managing Director of Cruden Building said: “This has been a tremendous team effort and everyone was really keen to take part and support this worthy cause. We were delighted by the donations that we received from staff, clients and our supply chain and this extension of our community benefit programme will help to deliver a happier Christmas to families.” Kevin Reid, Chief Executive of the Cruden Group said: “We take huge pride in building local communities and supporting the needs of local areas wherever we can and we are delighted to add to the tremendous effort with an additional donation from The Cruden Foundation.” Samantha Stapley, chief operating officer at the Trussell Trust, said: “As the pandemic continues, more people are likely to need a food bank’s help. Food bank teams are working tirelessly to ensure help continues to be available. But ultimately, no one should need a food bank – all of us should have enough money for the essentials. The support of staff at Cruden will help food banks in Scotland continue to provide the lifeline of emergency support for local people in crisis, while we work in the long term to build a hunger free future. Thank you so much.”

Works start on £3.4m Staffordshire healthcare facility

Midlands contractor G F Tomlinson has commenced works on the new Greenwood House Medical Centre in Burntwood, Staffordshire. Due for completion in September 2021, the new £3.4million medical facility, located on Lichfield Road, will bring first class healthcare facilities to the community, relieving the pressure of local hospitals. The new single storey centre will consist of 12 consulting rooms, five treatment rooms, a healthcare and phlebotomy room, and a health education space with an adjoining pharmacy unit, and will be built on a site previously occupied by a residential care home, which has been vacant since 2008. Providing a much-needed upgrade to the current healthcare facilities, the centre will be replacing services provided by the Darwin Medical Practice – located on Hudson Drive approximately 300 metres away from Greenwood House, ensuring improved and accessible facilities for the area. There will also be 61 onsite parking spaces created and surroundings will be landscaped, with the centre using the existing road entrance for the former care home. The scheme has been funded by NHS England’s Estates and Technology Transformation Fund, which aims to improve healthcare services for patients across the country with modernised facilities and technology. Procured through the Staffordshire County Council framework, G F Tomlinson has been selected to provide construction works for the site, and this is the fifth project the contractor has procured through the framework since 2016. Recent projects for the framework have included the £3.7m renovation of King Edward VI Primary School in Lichfield, and the £5m build of Anker Valley Primary School in Tamworth. Chris Flint, director of G F Tomlinson said: “The importance of good quality healthcare is important, now more than ever, and the new medical centre will provide optimised and accessible facilities for the local community which are currently inadequate, meeting the demands of the ageing population in Burntwood. “We’re pleased to be partnering with Staffordshire County Council once again to provide vital public service buildings for the wider community, instilling confidence that they have access to good healthcare whenever they need it.” Alan White, leader of Staffordshire County Council and former cabinet member for health, care and wellbeing, said: “Part of the strategy for reducing demand on our hospitals from ageing communities is to provide more facilities and services close to residents. “This development, reusing a dormant plot of land that has long been earmarked for the purpose, will provide additional capacity for the local GP practice and means people in Burntwood can look forward to a new, state-of-the-art facility that meets the community’s needs.” Dr Gerbo Huisman, GP partner at Darwin Medical Practice, said: “I am delighted that years of collaborative working and planning between skilled and dedicated professionals from local health authorities, the county council and The Darwin Medical Practice are now coming to fruition. “Our patients, as well as the wider community, are now getting what they have asked for so long; a modern, spacious and comfortable health centre from which we, their GP practice, will be delivering high quality, responsive and patient centred primary care services.” Staffordshire County Council is leading this project, with project management from ENTRUST, G F Tomlinson acting as main contractor, CPMG as architect and Jackson Purdue as structural engineer.

MASTENBROEK UNVEILS THE LATEST 20/14 TRENCHER

Mastenbroek, the UK-based designer and manufacturer of self-propelled trenchers has launched the latest edition of its super compact rock trencher – the 20/14. The new version of the 20/14, which offers 215 horsepower and an off-setting digging mechanism to trench 1.4m deep, features several upgrades compared to the previous model. One of the most innovative refinements has been to reduce the machine width to 2.5 meters and with the ability to remove the forward discharge conveyors to enable a working width of 2.1 meters, making it ideal for use on continental Europe where narrow village streets are common. Mastenbroek has given the 20/14 trencher the same ergonomically designed cabin as its larger 17/17 model. This means the 20/14 boasts a redesigned cabin, with air conditioning and heating alongside an air suspension high comfort seat onto which are mounted the proportional controls for both the digging mechanism and the tracks. A Deutz Construction TCD 6.1 L6 engine powers the machine and meets the latest EU Stage 5 emissions levels. Fuel consumption is maximised by the inclusion of intelligent load sensing, which controls the speed of the tracks based on how hard the machine is working, optimising performance. “We are very pleased with how we have managed to include so many innovative and useful features into a small but incredibly powerful trencher,” says Christopher Pett, general manager at Mastenbroek. “Unlike other machines with a similar footprint, the operator sits in a weatherproof cabin and has the reassurance that the machine is ROP’s certified. They also have excellent visibility from the full width cabin of the digging mechanism and for track steering and conveyor discharge. The first 2021 model of the 20/14 has been sold to Colas, the global transport infrastructure construction and maintenance company. Operating in the Rhône-Alpes region of France, initial projects include trenching pipework to remote villages, which until now have relied on borehole for their water supply. The deal was brokered by Paul Goncalves at Mastenbroek’s French dealer, Socodima. “Colas was looking for a powerful compact trencher with an ergonomic operator cabin and when we introduced them to the latest version of the Mastenbroek 20/14 they didn’t hesitate to place an order,” says Paul. “I think this will be the first of many as there is a lot of demand for a small, easy to transport and powerful trencher that is easy and comfortable to use no matter what the conditions.” Mastenbroek manufactured its first trencher in 1977, since then the company has grown into a globally respected name in trenching, machine automation through its partnership with Trimble®, subsea cutting technology, ground stabilisation and groundwater control. For further information about the 2021 20/14 and the wider Mastenbroek range, please visit www.mastenbroek.com, email info@mastenbroek.com or call +44 1205 311 313.

The Importance of Investing in Digital Marketing for Roofing Companies

Like any business, roofing companies rely on marketing to bring in new customers and keep their business growing and flourishing. And these days the best way to market a business is to go online. Yes there is still a place for traditional marketing like advertising on TV, radio, billboards, and so on. But those methods are rather scattershot, whereas a digital marketing campaign is more focused and targeted to people who will actually need your services. There are many aspects to a digital marketing campaign, from designing an appealing website to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) services that get people to visit that website, but to get all of that you will need the roofing website design services of an experienced digital marketing agency. The agency will take care of all of your marketing to make sure that your online presence will help you to attract new customers and keep your business growing. Why Digital Marketing is Important For Roofing Companies It should come as no surprise that people tend to first look online to get what they need. Whether they are shopping for an item, making a reservation, or buying a plane ticket, the internet is their first destination. The same goes for when they are looking for various services, whether it is a lawyer, an electrician, or, yes, a roofing company. And as with everything, first impressions are important, which means that people will decide whether they will stay on a website or not very quickly. The decision to stay or leave could be the difference between a new customer or one that got away. So it is vital that a roofing company has a great website and that people know about that website; digital marketing is the way to achieve both of those goals. How Digital Marketing Works For Roofing Companies Digital marketing is all about the marketing you do through online channels. The roofing company website is where it gets started, which is why it is so important, but there are many other online avenues that allow you to attract and interact with customers. These include social media platforms, email marketing, blog articles, profiles on directories like Angie’s List or HomeAdvisor, video marketing, and PPC (Pay Per Click) ads. You do not need to use all of these resources, but you should at least invest in a few of them. Social media is great for giving your roofing company a more human touch since it allows you to address current and potential customers directly. Blog articles can provide visitors with useful information and help to establish you as an authority on the subject of roofing. Online directories are vital tools because customers who are serious about hiring a roofing company often look to those sites to find out more about the companies available to them. And PPC ads help to give a company a higher profile, but they have to be used carefully and judiciously otherwise they could backfire. The Process of Digital Marketing For Roofing Companies As stated earlier, it all starts with the website. The roofing company’s website needs to be attractive, easy to navigate, and it should load quickly. The website is likely to be a visitor’s first introduction to the roofing company so it needs to make a strong first impression. Great content is also a necessity because it needs to show the visitor what the roofing company has to offer and how it can help them. Naturally, one of the most important elements of a good roofing website is the ability of users to communicate with the company. That means a chat function, a prominently displayed phone number, e-mail, and online forms. Not only should it be easy for the visitor to communicate with the company, but the company should respond promptly to any communication since swift response to customers helps to build trust and confidence. Another extremely important aspect of a good website is that it should be accessible on mobile devices. This is called responsive design and it means that a website can adjust to fit and work well on any screen, whether it is a laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Many people use their phone to browse the web so a roofing website needs to work just as well on those devices as it does on a PC or laptop. Attracting Visitors To the Website It does not matter how great your website is if no one visits it, which is why a big part of digital marketing is getting your website noticed by the right people. That is where SEO comes in since it is all about getting websites to rank more highly on the results pages of search engines. That gives websites more visibility among the people searching for certain search terms. In the case of a roofing website, that means getting it to be among the first to show up when people search for certain keywords related to roofing. There are other more detailed methods that are used to help websites rank more highly, such as link building and website optimization. You should speak to a representative from the digital marketing company to learn more about those methods and how they can help your website. Use Digital Marketing to Help Your Roofing Company Thrive Digital marketing is an efficient, efficacious, and cost-effective method of marketing that has a high return on investment. It can attract visitors to the roofing company’s website, which generates more leads, and can turn many of those leads into customers. There are many benefits and no disadvantages to using digital marketing, so get in touch with a digital marketing agency to learn how they can help your roofing company to thrive.
