Pupils at Howard Community Academy Name New Roads

Children from Howard Community Academy in Bury St. Edmunds have come up with the names of the roads on a new housing development, Lyle Place. As part of the Keepmoat Homes’ ongoing commitment to the local community, pupils from the school were invited to suggest street names for the new development’s roads, which when completed, will comprise of 79 new homes. The local history of the area has been recognised by the naming of four roads at the new housing development and to acknowledge the school’s former site, along with Howard Park which is adjacent to the development, Howard Road, submitted by Aly (aged 11) was chosen as one of the new street names. In honour of Mary Tudor, sister of Henry VIII, who’s final resting place is at Bury St. Edmunds, Westhorpe Avenue was put forward by Mackenzie (aged 11), which pays homage to Westhorpe Hall, the residence of Mary Tudor and the Duke of Suffolk, Charles Brandon. Other road names at Lyle Place include Charles Place which has been named after Charles Brandon, the second husband of Mary Tudor, and Frances Street which has been named after the daughter of Mary Tudor. All the street names are now present at the development, and the pupils of the winning road names each received £40 national book token as appreciation for their suggestions. “We’re delighted to have worked with Howard Community Academy to name the new roads at Lyle Place. The children came up with some exciting new road names which recognises the important history of the area,” said Mick O’Farrell, Regional Managing Director at Keepmoat Homes. “The site is located on the former Howard Community Primary School and it’s important to us to get the community involved in the redevelopment of their local area. The street naming was a perfect example of how we not only look to the future by bringing much-needed new homes to the area, but also harness the rich history in the area.” In partnership with The Newbury Community Association (NCA), Suffolk Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Lyle Place will comprise of 56 properties for the open market along with 23 homes which will be available as affordable housing via Havebury Housing. This is the homebuilder’s first development in Bury St. Edmunds and the company will deliver a mix of two- three- and four-bedroom homes, with a range of house types and styles to suit a diverse market. The development will also include a number of amenities for both new and existing residents including a brand-new community centre, a large parkland area and additional outdoor spaces. Work on the development is due to take two years, with the last home completion due Autumn 2022.

How Homeowners Can Benefit from Waterside Living

In close proximity to nature, with water-based activities including kayaking and rowing and beauty spots such as Holme Pierrepont in walking distance – the banks of the River Trent offer a host of waterside living benefits for residents to enjoy. The developers behind one of the Nottingham’s latest riverside developments – The Waterside Apartments – have revealed why the River Trent is unrivalled when it comes to residents getting out and about and making the most of the city. Developed by Monk Estates and Harmony Bridge and marketed by FHP Living, The Waterside Apartments is a waterfront development along the banks of the River Trent, standing tall at the foot of Nottingham’s historic Trent Bridge, nestled in between Trent Bridge Cricket Ground and Nottingham Forest FC’s City Ground. Featuring 121 apartments and penthouses, the new homes boast panoramic views of the tranquil river and Nottingham city centre’s skyline beyond. For residents living in these apartments – proximity to nature, water activities including kayaking and rowing, and running, walking and cycling trails are right on the doorstep – with access to natural open green spaces just a short distance away. To the east of the development is Holme Pierrepont Country Park – home of the National Water Sports Centre, 270 acres of parkland and adrenaline-filled activities including white water rafting, canoeing and obstacle courses. To the west, lies Victoria Embankment and The Meadows Recreation Ground – two open green spaces along the banks of the river, ideal for a morning run, dog walking or evening stroll. Walking or cycling slightly further in either direction along the river’s edge leads to numerous quiet, picturesque areas of Nottingham, including Colwick Country Park, Attenborough Nature Reserve, Clifton village and Stoke Bardolph. As well as encouraging physical activity, waterside living can have other benefits for overall health and wellbeing too. Research suggests that living in close proximity to water has many mental health benefits – even just the sight of water can cause neurochemicals to rush through the human body, stimulating blood flow to the heart and brain*. It is also believed that, thanks to the changing form and constant movement of water, and its importance to our lives from an instinctual and evolutionary level, humans maintain a fascination with it*. “Living by the water’s edge has clear and obvious benefits – from the stunning views to the peaceful sound of a river flowing by your property. We are so proud of our latest development, The Waterside Apartments, that captures this enviable and picturesque waterside lifestyle in a great location,” said Sam Monk, director at Monk Estates. “Residents can enjoy walking, cycling and running trails right outside their door, plus access to different local parks and areas of greenery, all within a short distance from their homes. With the affluent area of West Bridgford approximately ten minutes’ walk away, and Nottingham city centre around 30 minutes’ walk away, the new apartments at The Waterside strike the perfect balance between modern city living and serene surroundings, with access to plenty of outdoor activities, pathways, trails and nearby open spaces.” For those who reserve apartments before the end of July and complete before the end of September, The Waterside developers are offering apartment buyers the chance to have their stamp duty tax paid (terms and conditions apply). 13 two-bed apartments remain available to purchase, priced from £285,000 to £395,000 and visitors are welcome to view the three-bed show penthouse – complete with a panoramic roof terrace overlooking the river, open plan island kitchen and bathroom with floor to ceiling windows. All homes have been finished to the finest quality using high specification fixtures and fittings, with onsite parking and vibrant communal spaces including a reception concierge.

Landmark Clifton Village Development Now Complete

Landmark Clifton Village Development Now Complete

An iconic gateway development in Clifton Village is now complete and homes are available to buy and move into immediately in a newly restored Grade II listed rectory building complete with executive properties in its grounds. Works on the highly-anticipated Rectory Mews development began last year, led by Tomlinson Homes, a division of the G F Tomlinson Group, and construction involved the restoration and conversion of the previously derelict Old Rectory site, which dates back to the mid-1700s, transforming the historic building into a prominent gateway residential feature in the sought-after Clifton Village in Nottinghamshire. The Old Rectory, once home to the Rector of Clifton, is a typical Georgian style building with south-facing garden elevations, and the property still retains its original square stairwell with wooden cantilever stairs and large purpose-built rooms. Along with its boundary wall, it occupies a prime position in Clifton Village. The development comprises four luxury homes within the Old Rectory building, each with its own entrance, outdoor space and garden, and within the beautifully landscaped grounds – three new executive properties have been built with garden facing elevations which are accessed through a private gated driveway. Homes within the Old Rectory conversion include The Gatehouse – a three/four-bedroom property and The Cottage – a two-bedroom property, which are both sold and occupied. The Rectory – a five-bedroom property with reinstalled period features and views into the garden and The Lodge – a four-bedroom property, are both still available for purchase. Sat within the exclusive grounds – the three new executive detached homes include two five-bedroom properties – Beech House and Oak House, and Cedar House – a six-bedroom property, which is sold. Beech House and Cedar House are currently available for sale. The stunning new build properties boast ample living spaces, with garages, security gated access and sun lounges. Prices for the remaining available properties at Rectory Mews start at £550,000 and go up to £1million, and buyers can contact sole selling agent William H Browns in Nottingham on 0115 981 9828 to register interest. Working closely with the local community and Nottinghamshire County Council’s conservation team for all restoration works, Tomlinson Homes has ensured each property is fitted with stunning high specification fixtures and fittings including Burbidge kitchens sourced locally from Design Time in West Bridgford and bathrooms from Roca, and Villeroy and Boch. The location of the development and all new build properties have been inspired by the location and have been named after trees within the surrounding grounds. Located in a prime position, Rectory Mews is in close proximity to major employers including Experian, Boots and both Nottingham universities, with easy access to major travel routes including the M1, Beeston Station and Nottingham Parkway Station which has regular trains to London and East Midlands Airport. Siman Preston, group property manager at Tomlinson Homes, said: “Rectory Mews is an iconic development and we are incredibly proud that it is now complete. “The project presented some interesting challenges which the experienced site construction team resolved without causing any inconvenience or delays to the project and now that the scheme is finished, all those involved should be proud of what they have achieved, now the once derelict building has been lovingly restored to its former glory. “This stunning restoration and conversion of the once derelict building in a prominent position in Clifton Village, gives the location the entrance it so rightly deserves, and we look forward to welcoming buyers into their new homes and inviting visitors to look around the properties. “We’ve already sold three properties and have had a great amount of interest in the four remaining homes – so we encourage anyone who is interested to register for viewings with William H Brown if they would like to look around, which is highly recommended.”

Piling Underway at £115M Heath Farm Lane Development

Roger Bullivant Limited, the UK’s leading ground engineering company, started work on the £115m Partington housing scheme last summer with Heath Farm Lane Joint Venture, formed by Vistry Partnerships and Trafford Housing Trust. The housing scheme will bring forward 600 homes in Greater Manchester and Heath Farm Lane JV has appointed contractor Roger Bullivant for their in-house foundation solutions. Roger Bullivant will install over 4400 linear metres of precast concrete RBeam foundations, together with 1148 No. 200sq Driven Precast Concrete Piles. This high-quality engineered foundation system allows RBeam to be installed in conjunction with piles, a technique that can be applied to many soil conditions. “Not only is the Heath Farm Lane scheme an important project for Vistry Partnerships, but it will play a central role in transforming Trafford’s housing supply so we are delighted to have Roger Bullivant on board to help turn our idea into a reality,” said Vistry Partnerships’ Managing Director of JVs for the North West, Brendan Blythe. The RBeam system can decrease the time needed to construct foundations, precast factory production ensures the quality and reduces site wastage compared to in-situ beams and trench fill foundations, and most importantly reduces the health and safety risks of excavations on site. Using their in-house designed, Quiet piling hammers, RB will install segmented piles to depths of up to 10 metres. All RB rigs are designed and purposed built in-house to meet specific site requirements, in this case, reduce height and weight to suit the residential developments. By using Driven Precast Concrete Piles, Roger Bullivant was able to offer a cost-effective solution benefitting from zero spoil generation as well as saving time associated with MMC compared to conventional methods of foundation construction. “We are delighted to be working with the Heath Farm Lane JV to bring forward much-needed housing in the North West. This is a great example where RB can provide a value-engineered solution for our stakeholders. Working closely with both developers, we were able to provide the most cost-effective solution, through innovation, product development and a wealth of experience gained from many years working within the industry,” added Business Unit Manager Jon Harris at Roger Bullivant.

Cavanna Homes Donates Lifesaving Defibrillators

Cavanna Homes Donates Lifesaving Defibrillators

Two lifesaving defibrillators have been donated by Cavanna Homes to the family and school of 12-year-old Ella Halfyard who was diagnosed with a serious heart condition earlier this year. One defibrillator has been installed at Torquay Girls’ Grammar School and the other is portable, which means that Ella and her family have peace of mind whether she’s at home or out and about. Cavanna Homes’ Sales Advisor Kevyn Dixon and Site Manager Willie Whitelaw, first became aware of Ella’s condition when her parents Lizzie and Tom Halfyard reserved a new five-bedroom home at Lyme View in the village of Holcombe near Dawlish. On the day they were due to collect the keys to their new home at the end of March, the couple were contacted by their daughter’s school to say an ambulance had been called for Ella. As Lizzie explained: “The alarm was raised because she’d been unresponsive at school and although she recovered, this brought home how serious her condition is and how vital it is that she has a defibrillator with her at all times.” The Halfyard’s were first alerted to Ella’s condition after she noticed some changes in her heart rate at school when resting, which was also confirmed by her PE Teacher. As a precaution, the keen young sportswoman had a temporary ECG monitor fitted at Torbay Hospital in February, but later the same week she was rushed to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children who were very concerned by the results. As Lizzie recalled: “The results from the monitor flagged that Ella’s heart was beating too fast and could stop at any minute. It was a very scary time for us and so unexpected.” Ella’s condition is now managed by beta-blockers which slow her heart rate and she will continue to be monitored for the next three years. “Ella is incredibly sporty and has always loved playing football, so having to give up sport has been very hard for her,” said Lizzie. Cavanna Homes purchased both defibrillators after learning that the family were trying to fundraise for the lifesaving equipment. Kevyn Dixon said: “As a Sales Advisor, you become close with the new homeowners and once I found out about Ella and everything her and her family have been through, it really struck a chord with me. I put the idea forward about purchasing the defibrillators for the family to the Senior Management Team and it was a unanimous yes!” Keith Miller, Managing Director added: “This is exactly the sort of thing we’re proud to do by giving back to the communities we build in and to support our new homeowners. We hope that by purchasing this vital piece of equipment for Ella and her school it will provide added peace of mind and allow Ella to continue thriving at school.” The equipment has been life-changing for Ella and provided reassurance for her parents Lizzie and Tom, and her two sisters Megan (15) and Rosie (7). “Ella can now attend school trips and join in activities without feeling like she’s missing out,” said dad Tom. “This was incredibly generous of Cavanna Homes and we’ll always be grateful to them,” he added. “We also want to say how much we love our new home”, said Lizzie. “As a new build, there’s no need to do any DIY which has freed up our time to focus on our family and Ella’s condition. As the youngest of 12 siblings, I can’t wait to get the family over to celebrate us moving in!”

Keystone Brick Makes Luxury Façade for Development

Keystone Brick Makes Luxury Façade for Development

The superior aesthetics, offsite craftmanship and precision of Keystone Lintels’ pioneering brick slip system has ensured the façade of a luxury apartment complex in Buckinghamshire is in keeping with its exemplary architectural design. Located on one of Beaconsfield’s premier roads, Wellington Court is an exclusive development of one, two and three bedroom apartments. Developer Halamar’s architectural vision for this property required a gable ended luxury façade and main entrance featuring prominent and distinctive brickwork arches in the Arts and Craft style. To meet their requirements, Keystone’s technical team designed Brick Slip Feature corbelled and full arch lintels which were manufactured in a factory-controlled environment, negating the need for complex brick cutting on-site. Fabricated off-site with exemplary craftmanship, Keystone’s technical team ensured each bespoke lintel was manufactured to the size, shape and aesthetic requirements within the project build schedule. The one-piece lintel design solution required exacting dimensions to avoid any conflict with the proposed stone sitting at the end of each arch bearing. 3593mm upper coursing span and 3143mm lower coursing span measurements were essential for the seamless installation of the prominent entrance. A consignment of light textured Parham Red bricks were collected from site by Keystone which reduced brick wastage and improved material management. Double Cant bricks were precisely cut and bonded onto an extra heavy duty corbelled arch lintel using a BBA approved construction adhesive in a factory-controlled environment. The patented perforated design of a Keystone Brick Slip Feature Lintel allows the adhesive to squeeze through the perforations and form a ‘mushroom’ on the inside, providing a mechanical lock between the steel lintel and the bricks. Integral key prefabricated lintel components were all manufactured concurrently as opposed to sequentially which offered greater predictability of operational expenditure during the build programme. Delays associated with bad weather onsite were also avoided which allowed for high quality and consistency to be achieved when replicating the four large full arch lintel designs. The impressive 4300mm span and 2150mm rise arches were delivered to site ready for final pointing, with all the arch lintels including lifting hooks for an easier and safer installation. Keystone is the largest supplier of steel lintels in the UK and Ireland. For bespoke applications, architects, housebuilders and contractors can specify brick feature requirements by utilising Keystone’s free Brick Slip Feature Lintel design service. With this exceptional development in leafy Beaconsfield now complete, Keystone Brick Slip Feature lintels have once again played their part in meeting the complex brickwork requirements of a high quality scheme and at the same time within the designated build schedule.
