The IFC 1 building is part of the master plan that will deliver 470,000 sq. ft. of office buildings over six different buildings. The project will also deliver private car parking spaces that are situated below the buildings, and 520 public car parking spaces that will be spread across three levels and situated below a public park created on the site. The IFC Jersey project will become a new extension on the existing central business district. It is thought that the new development will create a distinct identity for the premier industry on the island. The new extension should also see the connection between the historic town centre and the waterfront strengthened. Specflue to offer comprehensive first-aid courses

Fully certified first aid training is being offered by Specflue, a leading supplier of flues, chimneys and renewable heating products based in Sudbury. Local facilities offering this type of training are very limited so the move is expected to be welcomed by local businesses as well as individuals. It is a legal requirement for companies to offer some first-aid provision because employers need to ensure that an employee who is injured or taken ill at work receives immediate attention. The Specflue first aid training is open to anyone over 16 years old who wishes to participate. Workplace welfare authority the Health and Safety Executive will always prosecute in cases where there is a significant risk, a disregard for established standards or persistent poor compliance with the law. Specflue can provide four levels of first aid training. The first – ‘First-Aid at Work’ – takes 18 hours and is delivered over three consecutive days. The course comprises practical and theoretical classroom work, as well as a practical assessment on CPR and first aid. It results in a qualification, valid for three years, by delivering the comprehensive set of practical skills needed by first aiders in most workplaces, enabling attendees to deal with first aid emergencies to the standards required to help comply with Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations. The course covers a range of content including head injuries; managing an emergency; resuscitation; burns and scalds; severe allergic reaction; chest pains; shock and eye injuries. The second course – ‘First-Aid at Work Refresher’ – is run over two days and enables attendees to requalify as a first aider. The aim is to update and refresh attendees’ knowledge of the First Aid at Work syllabus, while allowing time for revision and practice sessions in preparation for a written assessment. The third – ‘Emergency First-Aid at Work’ – is a six-hour course delivered in one day. The course comprises of practical work and theoretical classroom work, including practical assessment on CPR and first aid. It is designed to help attendees meet regulatory first aid requirements in smaller, low-risk workplaces. The course provides basic lifesaving first aid and workplace health and safety regulations, covering things like the role of the first aider; Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations; adult CPR; communication and casualty care; seizures; bleeding; choking, and using a defibrillator. Finally, Specflue will offer half-day first aid annual refresher training suitable for people who have completed either the three-day First Aid at Work or the one-day Emergency First-Aid at Work courses. Specflue’s David Ebbs, who will run the courses, has 29 years’ experience as a first aid trainer. He said: “It is strongly recommended that holders of a first-aid certificate should attend at least an annual update. The majority of first aiders hope that they are not going to be called upon to use the qualification, but, without practising the skills they will lose the knowledge and abilities they’ve gained. There will also be of changes in procedures to contend with. “Bearing in mind that it is a legal requirement to have first aiders at work, if nobody was available or somebody offered first aid incorrectly, then it opens up a massive potential for a law suit against the business.” Specflue can also offer paediatric first aid courses for nurseries and schools. Furthermore, automated external defibrillator courses are available at the Specflue training facility, either as standalone training or as a ‘bolt-on’ to an existing first-aid qualification. For more details, contact training@specflue.com or call 0333 9997974.

Canterbury City Council Has Been Given Planning Permission For a New Building

Canterbury City Council has given planning permission for a new International College to be built. The building has been designed by the architectural firm, Walters & Cohen Architects. The planned College will teach student s that are aged between 11 and 16. The College will work as a stepping stone fort students that may be entering the English school system for the first time. This project will help those that have previously been educated abroad. The work will be taking place on Malthouse Road and the building will sit separate from the main estate of the school by St Stephen’s Road as well as the River Great Stour. A masterplan was created while designing the International College in order to make sure that the building will be complimentary to the smaller scale developments taking place in the cul-de-sac. Asian Development Bank Revealed That It Has Backed Singapore’s New Project

The Asian Development Bank has revealed that it has backed Singapore’s Sunseap Group’s new project. The project involves building the first large scale solar power project in Cambodia which is under a long term agreement with the Electricité Du Cambodge. The Private Sector Operations Department of the Asian Development Bank will be providing Sunseap Asset with a debt financing package that amounts to US$9.2 million. This finance package will include co-financing that will come from a private sector financial institution through ADB’s B Loan program as well as a concessional loan that has come from the Canadian Climate Fund for the Privet Sector in Asia. The new solar farm is expected to begin operations in August this year and once it is completed, the farm will have the capacity of 10 megawatts and it is thought that is will be able to meet around a quarter of the Bavet City’s local energy demand. Half of this power demand is being met by power imports from their neighbour Viet Nam. It is thought that the solar farm will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of 5,500 tons of carbon dioxide each year. This project will also mean that the power supply to more rural areas will be more reliable. The electricity consumption in Cambodia has increased significantly over the past few years although it is thought that almost half of the country’s population currently doesn’t have access to stable and affordable electricity. The electrification rate in Cambodia has increased to 55% in 2015, which is up from 20% in 2007. However, the electricity tariffs in Cambodia are higher than those in neighboring countries because of their use of fossil fuels to generate power. Therefore, this new solar farm will help make electricity in the country more affordable as well as improve the power supply.

Trainbase New Construction Training Centre Has Been Opened

Trainbase, a new construction training centre has been opened in Northumberland. The site was opened by Ian Lavery, the Labour MP for Wansbeck. It is thought that the new site will create 20 new jobs over the course of the first 18 months of Trainbase operating. The training centre located at Burnt House Farm in Bedlington is expecting a high level of demand for its courses when it starts operating. This training centre has been set up as a new business venture by Tony Rutherford. Rutherford is the owner of WPR Farms and is a Northumberland based entrepreneur. It is thought that Trainbase will offer professionally accredited training and testing across several different awarding bodies for those working in the construction industry or any related trades. The training centre has already attracted some well-known clients including Esh Group, Thompsons of Prudhoe and JN Bentley of Skipton. Tony Rutherford will be acting as Director and Centre Manager for Trainbase Ltd as the training centre opens its doors. Trainbase will focus on providing quality training for people across the region. The training centre will offer the necessary skills and accreditation in order to work on site safely with a high level of competence. The training centre is expecting to have a high level of interest in its courses because of the promising North East construction market. In this region the construction market is doing well because of affordable housing developments as well as student accommodation and other infrastructure projects taking place. Trainbase has announced that they have already created four new jobs and it is hoped that more opportunities will come in the future. The skills shortage in the construction industry is well documented and it is important that training facilities of a high quality are made available for local businesses. It is more vital that training opportunities are created because of the need for certification from accredited awarding bodies are desired as opposed to in-house certification which is not accepted widely as a proof of competence.
