Barratt Homes Delivers Site Safety Discussion

Barratt Homes organised an interactive site safety discussion with Battlefield Primary School in Glasgow’s south side this week, to remind the young ones of the dangers within its nearby live construction development. The visit is part of a series of site safety workshops that the housebuilder has organised ahead of its new site launching at Riverside at Cathcart. “Our site managers are acutely aware of the attraction of construction sites to children during the school holidays. And while they might look like obstacle courses, the fact of the matter is that they are incredibly dangerous,” said Stewart Ponton, Safety, Health and Environment Manager for Barratt Developments PLC. “It is our duty of care to the people of Glasgow and the many other communities in which we operate to provide local schools like Battlefield Primary school with the right information on how to keep pupils safe.” The team at Barratt Homes delivered a 40 minute interactive presentation, which included a video, a question and answer session, children sized personal protection equipment (PPE) for the pupils to try on, as well as an information pack for school staff to distribute to pupils and parents as they see fit. “Barratt Homes joined us for some serious fun this morning as they explained the importance of personal protective equipment by dressing up a P5 pupil. The team delivered a very important message to the children, which emphasised the reality that our pupils are not equipped to be on a building site. Thanks to all for taking the time to come and present at our assembly,” said Mrs Brown, Principal Teacher at Battlefield Primary School. Riverside at Cathcart is the award-winning housebuilders’ most recent development to take shape in Glasgow. On completion, the site will have a selection of two, three, and four bedroom homes.

Barratt Developments Scotland Receives Maximum Rating from Customers

Barratt Developments in Scotland, a housebuilder that includes Barratt and David Wilson Homes, has received a five out of five star rating in the new Home Builders Federation (HBF) customer satisfaction survey for 2018. Being rated as a five star company means that more than 90% of its customer would recommend the homes to a friend. Currently, Barratt is the only major national housebuilder to have received a five star rating for nine years in a row. In addition to this celebratory reason, Barratt Homes is also looking forward to its 60th anniversary this year. This high customer satisfaction is the result of the housebuilder’s commitment to building high quality homes and creating great places, as well as its focus on looking after customers, particularly post sale. “The fact that 90% of our customers would recommend us to a friend is testament to the effort we invest to make sure our customers enjoy the best possible experience when buying a Barratt or David Wilson Home. Being independently rated as a 5 star builder is a great endorsement of our approach, particularly as we the only major national housebuilder to have 5 stars for 9 years in a row. To us this is the most important industry award which is why we put so much effort into building high quality homes and nurturing trusted relationships with our customers,” said Douglas McLeod, regional managing director for Barratt Developments in Scotland. The HBF survey is one of the largest surveys of this type, with almost 40,000 people completing it. The simple 1-5 star rating system was developed to give customers an easy to view ranking system of which housebuilders have the most satisfied customers. “Achieving high levels of customer satisfaction is hugely challenging. It requires leadership from Board level downwards and commitment from all areas of a housebuilding business and is a credit to every member of staff. A 5 star rating is not easy to achieve and is a very positive endorsement of the processes, systems and culture in place and should provide customers with real confidence in Barratt and the homes they build,” said Stewart Baseley, executive chairman of the Home Builders Federation.

Fusion and Barratt Developments work on Cane Hill Park

Barratt Developments carried out an offsite trail project which has led them to work with Fusion Building Systems on their first live site working together. Fusion started working on the Barratt site at Cane Hill Park development which is located in Coulsdon, Surrey in June. Since then, the designer and manufacturer of light gauge steel superstructures has managed to erect two of the five apartment blocks that have been contracted by the development company. Barratt Developments is the largest housebuilder in the UK, and their project at Cane Hill Park will see the creation of 86 residential units to be used for private and social housing markets. Fusion Building Systems are working as part of the project in the design and manufacture of individual wall and floor panels that will be used on the four storey apartment buildings. These panels will be installed on the site using a crane and a team of just five people on the site. The external wall s that will be used on the development use Fusion’s patented pre-insulated systems. This construction method allows for a reduction in build times as well as cutting down on the number of different trades that are required on site and also provide a 0.2W/m2K thermal efficiency. Before the partnership was agreed upon for the construction of the Cane Hill Park Site, Barratt and Fusion spent around 18 months in discussions to explore all of the different ways collaboration could improve construction methods and make offsite construction a more viable option. After this, Fusion successfully completed the building of nine properties, using their manufactured light gauge steel systems at one of Barratt’s developments located in West Sussex. Following the success of this trail, Fusion and Barratt have entered a supply-chain partnership which will be beneficial to both of the companies going forward. As part of this, Fusion has also been contracted to deliver a number of projects that have been valued at more than £3 million.
