Mace, the international construction and consultancy company, has been appointed by BauMont Real Estate Capital and YardNine to deliver ‘Edenica’, an office and retail development at 100 Fetter Lane in London. Planning consent for the former offices of DAC Beachcroft and the White Swan pub at 108 Fetter Lane includes the demolition of the existing buildings and the delivery of a new 12-storey development, roof gardens, new pedestrian route and pocket square at ground level, as well as ancillary cycle parking. The White Swan will be retained and relocated to the north-east corner of the site. The 95,000 sq ft development, designed by Fletcher Priest Architects, will target the highest environmental standards of BREEAM Outstanding, as well as WiredScore, SmartScore and WELL certifications. Sustainability, technology and wellbeing are extensively incorporated into the design including generous planted terraces, facilities to encourage active modes of travel and high-performance 100% electric building services to ensure the building achieves carbon neutrality in use. Edenica is the first scheme within the City of London to be designed as a ‘storage bank’ where materials are held for future reuse, through the use of ‘Materials Passports’. Materials Passports are digital data sets that describe characteristics of materials and components in products and systems, giving them value for present use, recovery and future reuse. Delivery for the new scheme is targeted for Q4 2024. Work on second phase of Manchester Airport transformation starts

Construction and consultancy company, Mace, has been appointed by Manchester Airports Group (MAG) to manage the second phase of the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme (MANTP). The programme will expand Manchester Airport’s role as the UK’s global gateway in the North, transforming the passenger experience and helping attract new routes to key international destinations. The first phase of the £1.3bn programme has already seen Terminal 2 more than double in size. Representing a £440m investment, the phase two works will see the remainder of Terminal 2 modernised, and a second pier built. The programme is expected to complete in 2024, with the new facilities opening in 2025. Mace brings extensive experience managing the delivery of major aviation projects and programmes, most recently at Keflavik Airport in Iceland and Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands. The business has global expertise working with a range of airport operators and carriers. The company has been appointed as the project management and construction delivery specialists for the redevelopment of Terminal 2 and the construction of the second phase of the new Pier 2 to create additional contact served aircraft stands. The transformation programme will contribute significant social and economic benefits to the surrounding community. Mace and its supply chain partners will create over 500 new jobs, while independent analysis commissioned by Manchester Airport shows around 16,400 extra jobs will be generated by 2040 as a result of the economic activity stimulated by the expansion of the airport and its route network. The same research – by York Aviation – reveals the economic contribution Manchester Airport makes to the Northern economy will soar by £2.75bn as a result of the full delivery of its transformation programme. And a further £2.9bn boost will be triggered through the increased productivity of businesses travelling and trading globally through Manchester over the same period. Mace and its supply chain partners will also engage over 1,500 young people across Greater Manchester, aim to raise £70,000 for local charities and donate at least 500 hours of employee volunteering time. It has been established that at least 5% of the workforce should be apprentices for the duration of the project. During the build phase, over £75m will be contributed to the local area through wider business operations, regional supply chains and tourism recovery beyond the pandemic. Mace appointed for its largest interiors project

Mace has been appointed as the main contractor on the refurbishment of Fleet Street’s Peterborough Court, the largest interiors project for the Group in the past decade. Construction has started on the landmark Fleet Street office development scheme, Peterborough Court, the former European headquarters of Goldman Sachs. Peterborough Court, located at 133 Fleet Street, will be remodelled to create 292,000 sq ft of curated Grade A workspace and ground floor retail across eleven floors. The iconic property offers flexible floor plates of between 16,000 sq ft and 33,000 sq ft, with access to private terraces across four floors and public courtyard open space. The scheme will be available for occupation from Q2 2024. CBRE and JLL are joint leasing agents. Peterborough Court features transformed Fleet Street and Shoe Lane building entrances, activated frontages, a long gallery entrance with new glazing, and redesigned interiors aligned to the highest sustainability standards, health and wellness and dual-feed, 100% ‘All-Electric’ technology. The building will target green building certification BREEAM status of ‘Excellent’, or better, as well as ‘Platinum’ ratings for WELL (health and well-being), Wiredscore (broadband connectivity) and ActiveScore (commuter convenience). In addition, a minimum EPC energy efficiency rating of ‘B’ rating will be achieved. Peterborough Court has excellent transport and cycle connections adjacent to the Fleet Street conservation area. The property will offer c. 600 cycle spaces, EV charging points, luxury showers, lockers, changing and support facilities to appeal to London’s cyclist commuter market. The design features SMART technology, outdoor spaces, attractive on-site F&B amenities and impressive leisure facilities. The building is expected to exceed LETI 2030 and RIBA Climate Challenge 2030 embodied carbon targets. The £120 million investment programme for Peterborough Court is managed by Broadwater Capital. Cornish construction consultancy and Cornwall Council generate £34.9m in social and economic value

MWJV has published its annual report for year three of Cornwall Council’s BEPS Framework: 2021/2022 A Cornish construction and professional services consultancy has generated an added social and economic value of £34.9 million as a result of its work with Cornwall Council over the past three years. Mace Ward Williams Joint Venture (MWJV), which is a joint venture between Mace and Ward Williams Associates, has released its annual report. This follows its third year of work with Cornwall Council on the £650 million construction and infrastructure capital programme of investment within the Built Environment Professional Services (BEPS) Framework. In the report the Truro-based firm shared a summary of its work across the programmes to date. The added social and economic value has been achieved through the creation of new jobs, facilitated training and via spend with local and small businesses. Jeremy Dunn, MWJV’s Managing Director said: “In the built environment sector we know that we can have a more profound impact than is often understood, and this overview of our work to date reinforces that. “MWJV is a team of Project and Cost Managers, Architects, Engineers and many others – all working as a local Cornish-based team to create spaces, infrastructure and buildings that improve people’s lives and support the local economy. As well as the calculated economic impact, the long-term legacy that such work with Cornwall Council can create is significant to ensure a capable and vibrant future workforce for the county. “Our achievement of the social value targets which we set up and agreed with Cornwall Council from the standards of the Construction Industry Training Board is a real high point. For instance, we’ve created 95 new jobs across our partner businesses in the region and 15 apprenticeships against a target total of nine, exceeded the target of four construction careers events by 41 and delivered 199 weeks of training against a target of 63.” MWJV works with its wide network of local and national suppliers to bring expert and cost-effective project management, architecture, engineering and surveying support to a range of programmes across Cornwall ranging from transport, schools, town regeneration and housing. Projects the company has been working on include Spaceport Cornwall, Looe Flood Defence, Town Deals for Truro, St Ives, Camborne and Penzance, and the Schools Basic Needs and Backlog Maintenance Programmes. Dunn continued: “We’ve had some great results and are happy to be able to evidence our value and continued improvement. We’ve learned a lot from working on the BEPS Framework and are now looking forward to our fourth year where we hope to continue to exceed our targets. “The annual reports are a great chance to reflect on the work we’ve been doing and are an important step in helping us to continue to refine and improve our processes to ensure we’re delivering the best and most cost-effective work for the people of Cornwall.” The report also explores the financial performance of the company which this year turned over £8.17m with £16,000 in charitable donations. Key performance indicators are shared, with the vast majority meeting and exceeding targets, and customer satisfaction has resulted in a net promoter score of 47. Mace partners with Demand Logic to optimise HYLO one of London’s most futuristic buildings

Mace MEP has selected Demand Logic to deliver energy optimisation at HYLO, one of London’s most exciting new office buildings. Technology will support Mace and contractors to ensure optimised performance throughout the commissioning process and prior to occupation.  Mace, the global consultancy and construction firm, has selected Demand Logic to support them to deliver the energy and maintenance optimisation of one of London’s most exciting new buildings, HYLO. The refurbishment of a 1960’s building into a twenty-nine-storey landmark tower in London, boasts 270,000 sq ft of high-end mixed-use space, including 261,000 sq ft of premium office space on 28 floors and 17,000 sq ft of retail space.  Initially, Demand Logic’s market-leading insight will be utilised to support Mace and their contractors during the commissioning to ensure an optimised performance of the property before occupation and throughout fit-out periods as well as continuous monitoring. Demand Logic has been working with Mace for over several years on various projects, where the business utilised Demand Logic’s award-winning building analytics software to improve maintenance, increase occupier comfort and identify areas for energy savings across Mace’s own corporate property as well as their client’s. Mace will deliver the Extreme Photonics Applications Centre on the Oxfordshire site with a £81m investment through the R&D-focused Strategic Priorities Fund. The EPAC development is a new purpose-designed building that will house a unique, state-of-the-art high power and high repetition laser system. 
The appointment follows Mace’s recent successful work on two other research projects for the STFC on the Harwell campus, including the National Satellite Test Facility and the Rosalind Franklin Institute. The centre will help researchers and industry better understand the composition of new materials and how they behave in different conditions. It is a highly strategic, disruptive technology and directly supports the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy. Mace will work with the STFC, designers, a global concrete specialist and our supply chain partners to deliver the whole project, including the experimental areas of the building where high intensity lasers will be tested. Professor John Collier, Director of the UK’s Central Laser Facility, said: “As our construction partner in the EPAC project Mace will be contributing, alongside the work of the team of the scientists and engineers at STFC’s Central Laser Facility and our colleagues in academia, to a project that will enable the UK to realise the potential offered by laser driven radiation sources to be genuinely disruptive and that will soon bring together the wider science community in a diverse programme of fundamental and applied research.” Terry Spraggett, Managing Director for Public Sector Construction at Mace, added: “We are delighted to be appointed to deliver EPAC, marking another step forward in our relationship with the STFC. With Europe’s largest infrastructure project directly underneath us, and operating on a constrained construction site in Mayfair, this project was always going to face challenges. I am very proud of the collaborative working we have seen from our construction team and external stakeholders,” said Toby Courtauld, Chief Executive of Great Portland Estates. 18 Hanover Square is a nine-storey building constructed above the new eastern entrance to the Elizabeth Line’s Bond Street station, and will include 126,000 sq ft of offices and 2,300 sq ft of retail space. Other projects under the development include a separate building on New Bond Street, new office space above 1 Medici Courtyard, a restored Georgian Grade II Listed building, and six new 2 and 3 bedroom residential apartments at the junction of New Bond Street and Brook Street. “When complete, Hanover Square will deliver some of London’s most enviable offices, retail and private residences. I’m honoured to be here today to mark such a significant step forward for the project. Great Portland Estates are one of the best developers operating in the UK, and we’re thrilled to have built such a close relationship with them through the delivery of three major London landmarks,” added Mark Reynolds, Chief Executive of Mace.
