Bobcat is expanding in the Czech Republic

Doosan Bobcat EMEA today announced the opening of its headquarters for the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa), marking a further expansion in the Czech Republic. As part of its Dobříš campus, the newly erected building houses the company’s management and other employees and complements the production plant and the training and innovation center, where Bobcat machines are created for Europe and the rest of the world. Record investment, turnover and increase in production This year alone, the company’s investments in Dobříš will reach EUR 20 million. In 2018, Doosan Bobcat’s revenue for the EMEA region amounted to EUR 765 million, with the Dobříš factory producing a record 17,206 machines. This year, the company plans to increase production by 20% and break through the barrier of 20,000 machines for the first time. Bobcat’s history dates back 60 years and has become synonymous with skid steer loaders in most of the world. It has been operating in the Czech Republic since 2001. A major development came in 2007 with the construction of a new production plant for loaders and mini-excavators and the takeover by the global Doosan Group. In addition to the new production capacities, Doosan Bobcat has also built an extensive training center, and, above all, an innovation center. The development of the entire campus is symbolically crowned by the opening of the company’s EMEA headquarters, which moved from Waterloo, Belgium, to Dobříš, Czech Republic. Worth EUR 10 million, the three-storey headquarters building covers a surface area of 1,561 m2 and will offer more than 3,370 m2 of office space for 200 employees. Investments were also made to create more than 7,000 m2 of green areas around the building. The ample parking facilities include charging stations for electric vehicles. Socio-economic importance for the whole region Gustavo Otero, President of Doosan Bobcat EMEA, comments: “With the opening of the new headquarters in Dobříš, we are completing an investment which – thanks to the concentration of development, production and management of the company in one place – is of socio-economic importance for the whole region and exceptional within our industry. During Doosan Bobcat’s operations in the Czech Republic, we have invested approximately EUR 120 million, increased production five-fold, and more than tripled the number of employees. In the future, we expect a further recruitment of blue-collar professionals and expert positions in development.” Doosan Bobcat in numbers: A world leader in the manufacture of compact construction machines and a major manufacturer of agricultural machinery 17,206 machines produced in the Dobříš factory in 2018 (20% increase in 2019) EMEA revenue of EUR 765 million in 2018 A total investment of EUR 120 million for Doosan Bobcat Dobříš since 2007 1,400 jobs on the Dobříš campus, 150 in development and 200 in management Around 5,000 dealers and customers trained every year by the ‘Bobcat Institute’ training center Major employer With more than 1,400 employees from 30 different countries, Doosan Bobcat EMEA is one of the largest employers in the region. Massive Jaguar Land Rover warehouse complex near Ashby poised for green light

Plans for a massive Jaguar Land Rover parts distribution complex on farmland near Ashby could get the green light next week. North West Leicestershire District Council planners have recommended that councillors approve the 2.9m sq ft scheme off junction 11 of the M42, near Appleby Magna. A vote will take place at a September 3 planning meeting. West Midlands-based JLR wants to have five units on the site – including two that would be 1 million sq ft in size – to store parts prior to shipment to retailers in UK, North and South America, Europe, Africa and much of Asia. It will also act as a master site for a big distribution centre in Shanghai. JLR has not said how many jobs it would create but it would replace 10 warehouses – including main sites in Desford, Leicestershire, at Bagington in Coventry and Honeybourne, near Stratford – which employ around 1,200 staff. North West Leicestershire District Council said there had been a “significant number” of objections, including from 16 local parish councils as well as North Warwickshire Borough Council. But officers have said there was “strong evidence” of an “immediate need” for the development. They said: “Whilst concerns have been raised by objectors regarding a range of issues, the application is accompanied by an environmental statement which indicates that, subject to appropriate mitigation, these issues or other adverse environmental impacts arising from the proposed development would not indicate a conflict with the development plan as a whole, nor that planning permission ought to be refused.” There have been letters of objection about the height of the buildings and area covered by the site, the impact on the local environment, carbon emissions, the loss of farming land, light pollution and increased traffic. Hinckley and Bosworth MP David Tredinnick said he was opposing the plans along with Market Bosworth county councillor Ivan Ould and North Warwickshire MP Craig Tracey. Peter Snelson, who lives in No Man’s Heath, less than half a mile from the site, said: “Our perception is that the whole scheme is grossly out of scale with the virgin agricultural land of this area. “There will be light pollution 365 days of the year and traffic going in and out 365 days of the year. “The environmental impact will affect people living in this area for ever, no matter what IM Properties says about the wonderful lighting systems they are going to put in. “I’ve got a feeling that house prices will be affected because at the moment you look out on green fields. In two years time you will see grey sheds.” Supporters have included Kevin Harris, chairman of the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership. Mr Harris said: “Leicester and Leicestershire already has significant automotive and logistic strengths due to its central location and strong manufacturing base and the creation of a new global parts logistics centre would bring additional economic benefits to the area by generating new employment and supply chain opportunities for local people and businesses.” JLR would lease the site from property developer IM Properties, taking the lion’s share of 3.6 million sq ft of warehousing the developer wants to erect on the 238 acre farmland site. IM Properties has previously said the overall £350 million distribution park – with buildings ranging in size from 200,000 sq ft up to 1 million sq ft – could create up to 3,000 jobs. A Jaguar Land Rover spokeswoman said “centralising and streamlining” its UK-based global spare parts business would lead to “huge efficiencies”. She said: “This is a long-term plan. We want to start transferring operations in early 2022 with full completion by early 2023. “We will be working with current providers throughout that time to ensure a smooth transition. The new site would be operated by a third party, but it’s way too early to say who that will be. “The existing sites employ about 1,200 people between them. It’s too early to say how many the new site will have, but it’s part of the growth plans of the business, so will be a significant employer.” Asked about potential job losses at other sites and Brexit she said: “It is way too early to talk about the impact on people. “It is absolutely not Brexit related. This is a long-term project, which we began work on in early 2016. “It is absolutely not short-term Brexit planning, because it is a strategic move.” If it gets the go-ahead, work could start next spring with the first unit ready in May, 2021. Kevin Ashfield, UK development director at IM Properties, said there were “very few sites” in the UK which could deliver such a scale of development in the right location for Jaguar Land Rover. He said: “We believe the proposed planning application puts forward a high-quality, sustainable scheme will have huge economic benefits for the local area and retain an important element of the Jaguar Land Rover business in the region.”

StoVentec Glass Solution Matches Firm Vision

StoVentec Glass Solution Matches Firm Vision

Architects behind the development of a new building at Wolverhampton Girl’s High School have called on Sto’s new rainscreen cladding system. Seymour Harris Architects deployed the StoVentec Glass solution on the project because it matched the firm’s vision. “The design of the school’s new sixth-form building was extremely important given its location and context, and this played a major role in driving the specification of the most appropriate materials,” explained Joe Harris of Seymour Harris Architects. “In contrast to previous pastiche additions to the school, we wanted to use modern materials which would complement the original architecture of the school. The new building is harmonized with its surroundings through the colour and pattern of the high-level cladding and by physically reflecting the attractive landscaping of the site, and the school’s original buildings which date back to 1911.” The original idea of cladding the building with a reflective metallic finish was changed, as the school environment could easily lead to the metal being scratched and dented. “We chose the StoVentec Glass system instead,” added Joe. “It’s tough and scratch-resistant, but it still provided the high degree of reflectivity that we were looking for. Sto worked closely with us, providing many samples and helping us to arrive at the final choice. The StoVentec Glass proved to be an excellent way of translating our design into reality.” The BBA-accredited StoVentec Glass system incorporates an adjustable sub-construction, which is designed bespoke for each project. This can easily be adjusted to suit any uneven substrate and creates a ventilated cavity which keeps the wall dry and allows it to breathe. Tempered safety glass panels are bonded to unique StoVentec carrier boards in the factory, and then fixed to the sub-construction at the project site. The glass panels are manufactured in bespoke shapes and sizes to suit individual requirements. As well as being available in any RAL or custom colour, with reflective, non-reflective or metallic finish, they can also be screen printed with individual logos or designs. The project included perforated Adapta cladding that was supported on a structural frame penetrating the StoVentec Glass. This necessitated close and careful co-ordination between the architect, Craft Interior and Sto to ensure that the cut-outs in the glass mirrored exactly the location of the steel beams. The manufacturing process includes the fusing of colours on to the back of the glass, before the toughening process. The colour melts into the glass providing permanent coloured glass panels that will not wear, scratch, fade, or incur water damage.  “We have installed the StoVentec Glass system previously on several projects, but this one was without doubt the trickiest in terms of design and co-ordination. The positioning of the Agraffe fixing rails to the rear of the Glass Panels ensures that the final install is a relatively quick and easy process,” added Graham Chadwick of authorized Sto applicator Craft Interior. “The result on this project is a stunning piece of architecture that all parties should be proud to have been involved with, and that is extremely important on a high-profile project such as this.”

Deal Brings New Hampshire School

A deal has been struck with Morgan Sindall to build a new primary school in Eastleigh. The contractor has begun work on site to deliver Stoneham Park Primary Academy, which will provide places for 315 children. Cliff Kinch, area director of Morgan Sindall Construction’s Fareham office, said: “We are delighted to have started work to deliver this brand new primary school, which will be an essential addition to North Stoneham Park. “The new school building will be a high-quality, sustainable facility – providing a teaching and learning environment that will inspire and motivate school users and become an integral part of the local community. “Morgan Sindall Construction has long-standing expertise within the education sector, and we look forward to furthering our strong relationship with Hampshire County Council, the University of Winchester Academy Trust, and the local community as we deliver this new school.” The deal for the new school is designed to encourage community use, with a learning resource area at the heart of the plan. Set over two floors, the school boasts 11 classrooms, group working rooms, a library, a new multi-use games area (MUGA) and grassed play areas. Once complete, the school will take full advantage of the extensive grounds with a full forest school and an outdoor learning programme. The school will sit within North Stoneham Park, a new mixed-use, residential development that will create over 1,000 new homes in Eastleigh alongside sporting and leisure facilities, a nursery, office buildings and a retail centre. It will meet future demand from the new development and is part of a wider initiative to provide 18,500 new school places for pupils across the county by 2021. Morgan Sindall Construction’s project team is building the school using the Streif modular system, which allows the structural panels to be delivered to the site with external windows, doors and glazing pre-installed. The system ensures a shorter timescale of delivery and a smaller volume of deliveries to the construction site. Once built, responsibility for the school will be handed to the University of Winchester Academy Trust, which has been appointed as the academy sponsor by the Department for Education. Professor Joy Carter, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winchester and Chair of the University of Winchester Academy Trust, added on the deal: “It is a huge privilege to be setting out on this journey to lead another successful school to serve our community. We aim to create an academy where children will learn and flourish and which is aspirational, inclusive and joyful. “Stoneham Park Primary Academy will benefit from the University’s outstanding track record in teacher education and extensive regional school partnerships, our evidence-based learning and teaching, our powerful links with local business and community organisations, and our passionate commitment to sustainability and social justice.” The project is expected to be complete in time for the first intake of pupils in 2020.

Designing a mid-century modern kitchen – food for thought

All interior design enthusiasts know the 1950s and 60s gave birth to one of the most loved designs. Designers and architects have started to include technology in their designs and the result was an interesting trend with elements everyone loves. Today, homeowners want to incorporate mid-century modern features into their homes to achieve an elegant and unconventional result. Mid-century modern elements are perfect for kitchens because they create rooms with a sense of personality, style, and organisation. Here is how to include them in your design, if you are looking for a remodel. Build an open floor plan kitchen Modern kitchens are efficient, so you need to tear down all unnecessary walls and maximise your space. A mid-century kitchen is perfect for a small apartment because it provides both a kitchen and a dining area. The first step a kitchen remodel implies is taking down the walls that create visual barriers. Install open-shelving Wesley Ward, Head of Marketing at Hausera told us that based on their 2019 consumer survey, “The top three ideal styles for kitchens and bathrooms are: Modern (with a 51% majority vote), Contemporary, and Traditional.” Minimalistic details are essential to designing a modern space so build tall ceilings, wall cabinets, open space, and open shelving. If you have stores you should remove them and replace them with opening shelves. Don’t rush A modern kitchen isn’t built overnight. You can buy the first mid-century modern furniture set you find on the market, and install it the next day, but it will not provide an authentic feeling. The fun part of the process is when you browse through the items multiple stores offer to find the perfect elements. When you choose this style, you should keep in mind that it may take time to complete the project. The second step when remodelling the kitchen is to choose the wallpaper or paint and to build space-efficient cabinets. Use only natural materials Modern design uses steel and natural materials. Why is wood a key element for modern design? Because it’s timeless and creates a simple and authentic vibe. Mid-century design is unimaginable with wood elements so shop for real wood furniture. Decide if you prefer mid-tones or dark shades, or mix them to create warmth. Add some retro vibes To add a pop of style to your kitchen, you can choose some retro lighting fixtures. Interior design registered a comeback of retro lighting fixtures, so you can easily find a model that fits the rest of the house. Install an armed pedant light above the countertop to transform it into a dining table. Feel free to be creative when you choose kitchen items because modern spaces encourage experimentation.   Use colours Modern design promotes bold colours so don’t be afraid to use them. A bright colour can make the difference in the kitchen, so get creative and try hues like gold, yellow, deep blue, orange, and any other bright shade you find interesting. Sometimes using contrasting colours, you enrich the design of the kitchen and make it look more welcoming.

Fastener Supply Chain Services

What is a Fastener Distributer? Distributors buy and sell any product readily available in the market place; it can be any product or even certain services. Fastener distributors typically buy mass-produced small fasteners usually from overseas countries where they are cheaper to make and therefore cheaper to purchase in bulk. Fastener Supply Distributors provide both SAE fasteners for uses like in automotive, heavy equipment and OEM type applications, the other is ASTM fastener type which is used in construction trades. They distribute them so frequently that they usually carry a full line of sizes shapes, washers’ nuts and so on. They not only supply a wide range of fasteners but also the tools used with them. The tools usually are wrenches, pliers, buckets, drills, screw guns, and bits, etc. In addition to fasteners, the Fastener supply distributor can also carry such as construction equipment and supplies. They buy from the original manufacturers at a bulk price then resell to end-users, for a profit. These items can include safety boots, hard hats, welding supplies like welding rods, welding leads, etc. The distributor can make large profits if they know where they can buy their product at a low bulk price, then reselling with some type of mark up. Usually, they know that buying from overseas will most likely be their best option, to make some type of profit. While the distributor may by some things overseas, Construction Structural fasteners and supplies are, mainly purchased from American and Canadian established supply chains due to quality standards in manufacturing. When deciding on whether to purchase from a manufacturer or distributor here are some helpful pointers to consider: 1. Not Being Fully Versed in the Product: Because they can have such a wide range of products and may not be trained in the industry non-standard construction supplies and fasteners. It would be near impossible for the distributors to remember every detail of every product that they carry. 2. The Customer Has No Direct Contact with Manufacturer: When dealing with purchasing with a distributor there is little to no contact between who made the product and the customer. This can lead to a huge breakdown in things, especially if the wrong product is ordered. While one will take returns and/or exchanges along with any type warranties, the other may not, so, if there is a mistake in ordering the wrong thing and once received and may just be left on the customer’s doorstep to deal with it. 3.The Variation in Cost: Most of the time if custom fasteners purchased through a distributor the customer will pay a much higher cost for the product than if they just went to the manufacturer, to begin with. This cost difference can be significant depending on the product and how large the order. Just remember you get what you paid for. The only way a manufacturer can make money is to buy in bulk and cheaper than what they are trying to sell. Now here are some advantages to purchase from a Distributor: 1.Choice in Different Fastener Manufacturing Companies & Products in One Place: With a distributor, they can come to you instead of the other way around, possibly with a catalog or a truck with their inventory loaded ready for sale. They could have several of the same product just made by different companies. 2. Being Mobile & Having No Stationary Office: They are free to sell door to door so to speak, and with no fixed office building, their overhead is much lower which means they can pass those savings down the line to their customers. They also have a little more freedom in making the sale and then the delivery if needed. Just be aware that not all distributors have the means to get you the right product because of not knowing how to determine the quality of standards of a product that may be needed or what may be a substitute that will be just as good if the one needed is not available. It is up to the customer to know what they need and how to know the right product that they need beforehand.
