ITV Staff Move into White City Creative Campus

ITV Staff Move into White City Creative Campus

Stanhope and Cadillac Fairview are delighted to welcome 800 ITV staff to the Broadcast Centre building as part of their move and consolidation to the creative campus at White City Place, W12, alongside the BBC and other creative businesses. The White City Innovation District is home to some of the world’s most dynamic businesses with a cluster of creative organisations, including the BBC, Publicis and ITV. ITV has taken 125,000 sq ft of office space across 3 upper floors, and some of the ground floor, of the Broadcast Centre, campus previously occupied by the BBC. A further 1,200 ITV staff will move in next year so that by mid-2023 the whole ITV London team of more than 2,000 staff will all be in one location together for the first time. ITV staff arriving will find a thriving and lively ecosystem of other businesses, cafes and restaurants, amenities, activities and services second to none. The additional 800 ITV staff moving in today will join those from ITV Daytime and Drama who are already based in the WestWorks building at White City Place and in the studios at Television Centre where flagship shows like GMB, Lorraine, Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross are filmed. ITV is relocating all their London staff from their existing offices in Gray’s Inn Road and Waterhouse Square to White City which has traditionally been mainly a BBC site. The BBC retains space in the Broadcast Centre and other buildings in White City Place, and Television Centre includes the HQs of BBC Worldwide and Publicis, along with 3 studios run BBC Studioworks and a club, restaurant, gym and hotel run by Soho House. Ian Jones, Director of Workplace Services and Estates, ITV, said: “Over the next 12 months we will be moving all our London teams to ITV White City, joining ITV Daytime and Drama, who are already located in WestWorks, and our Studioworks team at Television Centre. It’ll be the first time we’ve all been together, creating a real hub for ITV in west London, and delivering new, smart ways of working for all our colleagues. We’re excited to be joining such a vibrant, creative community and bringing our distinctive ITV vibe to W12.” Jenny Hammarlund, managing director, Head of Europe, Cadillac Fairview said: “The decision by ITV to move all their staff to west London is an endorsement of the vitality and success of White City Place in attracting high quality and innovative world class businesses. White City Place is truly establishing itself as a creative innovation hub, with the likes of BBC, ITV and other media companies, alongside a growing cluster of leading life science businesses, including Novartis and Autolus. Cadillac Fairview is committed to the long term success of White City and its Innovation District and we look forward to its continued growth, alongside our broader commitment to London and the life sciences market as demonstrated by our recent investments in Oxford North and 70 Gracechurch Street.” Claire Dawe, Director, Asset Management, Stanhope said: “White City Place is already a fantastic creative campus with the BBC, ITV and other media businesses currently on site but the decision by ITV to relocate all their 2,000 staff in London to White City will increase the buzz and critical mass to make it a real centre of the media industry in London. Stanhope and Cadillac Fairview, the owner of White City Place, welcome the new ITV staff, and they will be in good company with a range of other leading creative businesses both at White City Place and Television Centre.” Building, Design and Construction Magazine | The Home of Construction and Property News

Works Commence at Luxury Development in Bramcote

Works Commence at Luxury Development in Bramcote

Nottingham-based luxury home developer, North Sands Developments, has begun construction on its second prestigious residential development on the exclusive and sought-after Cow Lane in Bramcote, Nottingham, with the first look revealed. The development, which is located in the sought-after Bramcote Village Conservation area near Beeston, is to be named The Grove and will comprise of three luxurious, large five-bedroom family homes, each with a white render finish and expansive windows. Priced between £1.5million and £1.7million, each exclusive home will boast a clean, contemporary look and feel with high end functionality, and will offer large open plan living, kitchen and dining areas, ideal for modern family living. The development is surrounded by a protected woodland and two of the homes feature their own private share of the woodland, offering a countryside oasis that reaps the benefits of having an address associated with the popular area of Bramcote; just 4.5 miles from Nottingham City Centre. Having already cleared the site, North Sands Developments has started works on these dream homes, due to complete in Spring 2023. A key feature of this unique development is that the purchasers will have the opportunity to tailor-make their home to meet their exact requirement by working alongside the North Sands Developments design team. The purchasers will be able to select their own bespoke features such as high-quality kitchen and bathroom interiors, floor finishes, internal doors and tiling, to name just a few. The new owners will have the ability to be involved as much or as little as they would like to. James Hartley, director at North Sands Developments, said: “Following the success of our first Cow Lane development, we are extremely excited to be building more exclusive, executive style homes once again in such a stunning, leafy, sought-after location. We always ensure to design and build our homes to a high specification and ensure they seamlessly fit in with their surroundings. “What I love most about this site is that it sits in such a peaceful, breath-taking, mature woodland setting on Cow Lane – each home will feature large windows that will frame these surroundings and prospective buyers can get a real feel for what this will look like in the new imagery we’ve released. “We already have one of the homes under offer prior to any formal marketing through our new ‘Northsands Bespoke’ offering; this means that early purchasers will be able to design and choose the internal finishes themselves and have the North Sands team there to hold their hand through what is such a unique and special experience of having their dream home built for them. “Interiors and finishes play a huge part in purchasing decisions; in short, the purchasers don’t have to compromise as everything can be bespoke to them, which is not something you can always say when you purchase a home. “Having such a setting to call home and so close to Nottingham city centre, Beeston, Boots, QMC Hospital and the University, it’s incredibly quiet and one of the most desirable locations in Nottinghamshire. Beeston in particular is really evolving – with plentiful shops, retail outlets, restaurants and the brand-new cinema, it has everything on the doorstep without even having to go into town, though town is incredibly accessible by road, tram and train. Major road routes including the A52 and M1 are also in close range.  “We have had a lot of interest in The Grove already with one home already under offer. North Sands encourage anyone interested in purchasing to contact our agents, FHP Living for more information.” Building, Design and Construction Magazine | The Home of Construction and Property News

BDP Design Project Picks up AJ Retrofit Award for Strathclyde University

BDP Design Project Picks up AJ Retrofit Award for Strathclyde University

BDP picked up the top prize in the Higher Education and Campus category for its University of Strathclyde Learning and Teaching Project in this year’s AJ Retrofit Awards. The awards celebrate the design expertise behind the vital renewal and repurposing of existing buildings, slashing the industry’s carbon footprint in the process. The 20,000sqm Learning and Teaching Building at the heart of the University of Strathclyde’s Campus in Glasgow comprises the refurbishment and adaptive re-use of two existing buildings, the Colville Building and the B-listed Architecture Building and creates a new student hub overlooking the University’s Rottenrow Gardens. The reuse of the existing structure and careful adaption of the existing buildings provides a significant reduction in embodied carbon compared to a full new build. “There was a clear opportunity to re-use and adapt these existing buildings to improve the quality of the University’s campus and enhance the overall student experience. The decision to transform the existing buildings rather than a new-build project also has substantial sustainable benefits. Our Sustainability Team compared the embodied carbon of the adaptive re-use of the existing building structure to a notional new build equivalent and demonstrated that the project saved around 67% of CO2e,” said Martin Jarvie, Architect Associate, BDP. Existing buildings comprise a large proportion of the UK’s building stock therefore retrofit or refurbishment plays a critical role in meeting climate targets. Along with environmental benefits, the commercial and social returns on reusing existing buildings are self-evident. BDP is an international interdisciplinary practice of architects, engineers, designers, and urbanists. We work closely with users, clients, and the community to create special places for living, working, shopping, culture and learning across the world. Founded in 1961, we now have studios across the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, UAE, India, China, Singapore, and Canada. BDP has a leading track record in all major sectors including health, education, workplace, retail, urbanism, heritage, housing, transport, and leisure and has won over 1000 awards for design quality. Utility Startup Achieves Exponential Growth in Volatile Market

Utility Startup Achieves Exponential Growth in Volatile Market

Dunore Utility Connections, a UK-wide utility and connectivity startup, has achieved rapid growth in the nine-months since launch thanks to the disruptive thinking of its founders. In July 2021, two industry veterans, Tim Carroll and Jon Newsham joined forces to challenge the traditional working practices and standards that have “long plagued the utility industry”. In a short space of time, Northampton-based Dunore Utility Connections has developed a reputation as a trusted partner for construction and development companies who are faced with the challenge of navigating the complex maze of utilities. Together, Carroll and Newsham are renowned for their unrivalled knowledge, expertise and transparent working practices and have been helping businesses solve utility changes for more than 40 years combined. The demand for Carroll and Newsham’s expertise is evident in both their strong project pipeline and the month-on-month growth of incoming enquiries. Since its launch just nine months ago, the utility duo has appointed five new team members to meet the continuing client demand and to elevate its service. As a direct response to significant success in the North of England, Carroll and Newsham have appointed a new recruit, Liam Percy, as Project Manager who will lead operations in the region. Percy brings a wealth of industry experience, having managed utility projects across a range of sectors, including construction and food and beverage. With over 12 years working in the utilities industry, Percy has specialised in stakeholder management, supply chain management and application management, and is driven by finding solutions to complex projects for his clients. Percy has joined the team at Dunore Utility Connections from CNG Energy. Newsham, Director of Dunore Utility Connections, said: “Core to the sustainable growth of the consultancy has been challenging the complex rulebook that has long plagued the utility industry. We believe construction and development companies deserve a better quality of customer service than has been traditionally offered. It is no secret that utilities are inherently complex and in such a fragmented and disjointed industry, a single point of contact saves time, stress and unforeseen costs. Dunore Utility Connections exist to solve complex problems and that will always remain our guiding light.” Carroll, Director of Dunore Utility Connections, said: “We are proud to not just be surviving, but thriving in what has been a rapidly evolving and rocky time for the power and utilities sector. Construction and development projects are notoriously stressful due to the many moving parts and it is easy to let utility connections fall to the bottom of the list. We are here to make an arduous process simple for our clients and our agility, trusted supply chain and understanding of the market makes this achievable. “We are immensely proud of our ever-growing team who bring a wealth of multi-faceted expertise to the consultancy. We have expanded into a bigger office for the second time since launch to facilitate our future growth – in this new, hybrid working world, it is important we have a central hub for our team.” Building, Design and Construction Magazine | The Home of Construction and Property News

Shipley Showhomes Open to the Public

Shipley Showhomes Open to the Public

Housebuilder Harron Homes has opened new showhomes at Shipley Lakeside in Shipley near Heanor, where prospective buyers can explore a range of elegant styles catering to a variety of tastes. The two showhomes were designed by Midlands based interior designers, Open Door Interiors. Managing Director Tracy Baker described the elegant style of the two showhomes: “We genuinely love working with Harron Homes because its product has that ‘hotel’ feel and bespoke finish,” she said. “This provides a beautiful template for us to decorate the tasteful and refined interiors we pride ourselves on.” “The larger of the two showhomes is the three-bedroom Warkworth. It’s a build ideally suited to families looking for a tasteful, elegant design. The colour palette is selected with that audience in mind. Delicate tones of beige meet lighter ivory shades, balanced finely against French blue for a subtle contrast. It’s perfect for that tasteful hotel feel.  “The smaller four-bedroom Windsor is ideal for families looking for a bright, spacious design with a work-from-home appeal. Our base colour palette of white, silver grey and mauve helps compose suave, comfortable spaces with a clear, open and peaceful feel to them. “The high-specification kitchen is the focal point of this home. Harron Homes incorporates glass in its homes, which gives a natural feeling of light and spaciousness. The use of a bay window lends a wonderful brightness to the kitchen that’s perfect for the upcoming spring and summer seasons. We were then able to supplement this with beautiful wood-panelling, balancing the boutique finish of the overall style with a touch of the traditional.” The showhomes will appeal to buyers looking to make a fresh start in a lovely home located in peaceful, natural surroundings right by Shipley Lake. The lakeside area boasts a multitude of walks and nature trails set against the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. There is an onsite country park on the development as well, offering access to the Nutbrook trail, a 10-mile traffic free-route that takes you between Shipley Country Park, Long Eaton and Heanor.  Amenities are aplenty in the area too. Shipley Lakeside benefits from a multitude of local superstores nearby should you need to do a spot of shopping, plus a shopping park for those weekends dedicated to some retail therapy. Saving the Last Major Bellfoundry in Britain Project Underway

Saving the Last Major Bellfoundry in Britain Project Underway

The Saving the Last Major Bellfoundry in Britain Project is entering its next stage as it invites main contractors to tender for a programme of capital works to protect and enhance Loughborough Bellfoundry’s Grade II Listed Buildings and museum, funded by a number of generous donors and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Loughborough Bellfoundry – which is in the centre of the Leicestershire town – is also known as John Taylor’s Bellfoundry, and is the last major bellfoundry in the UK and Commonwealth. More than 25,000 bells, which can be heard in more than 100 countries, have been cast there since the present bellfoundry was built in 1859, from London’s St Paul’s Cathedral to Washington National Cathedral in the US capital, and from the National Carillon in Canberra, Australia to Cape Town City Hall in South Africa. In 2016, the Loughborough Bellfoundry Trust was set up to begin the project of restoring the bellfoundry’s buildings, redeveloping the site’s museum and protecting the bellfoundry and the ancient craft of bell making for generations to come. Plans for the comprehensive restoration of the Victorian site have been drawn up by a team lead by Caroe Architecture Limited and the Loughborough Bellfoundry Trust is now in a position to invite tenders from main contractors to deliver the project. Works are expected to begin later this year and complete towards the end of 2023. Main contractors are invited to submit their proposals by the deadline of 16th May 2022. The programme of works will include reconfiguration of the buildings’ archive room, office spaces and workshop facilities, as well as the creation of a new entrance into the historic site. The museum will be improved and enhanced by increasing its footprint to incorporate additional exhibition space and room for an administration office. Chrissie Van Mierlo, museum director at the Loughborough Bellfoundry Trust, said: “We are incredibly pleased and excited to have issued our invitation to tender on this project. The works are going to preserve and protect these historic and important buildings for years to come and provide a wonderful place for people to visit and learn about the highly specialised craftsmanship that the process of bellfounding entails. “Our vision is for Loughborough Bellfoundry to become the global centre for the art of bell making and learning. We have been very fortunate to have benefitted from funding over the years to address the most urgent repair and conservation works required, and we’re thrilled to be in a position to enter the next stage of this project to secure the legacy of the Bellfoundry’s bells for future generations.” Building, Design and Construction Magazine | The Home of Construction and Property News

Paul Thirkell, managing director of iForce, said: “iForce is absolutely delighted to have secured a new facility at Panattoni Park Northampton, which will help to facilitate the significant growth the business is experiencing. The location is of strategic importance within our network and located next to three other Culina Group warehouses, creating significant synergies across the group companies”.
