Practical Completion Achieved at New Lidl and Wickes Stores in Long Eaton

Practical Completion Achieved at New Lidl and Wickes Stores in Long Eaton

Practical Completion has been achieved at Stadium Retail Park, a commercial development in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, that will be home to new locations for Lidl GB and Wickes. The site has been brought forward by Clowes Developments. IMA Architects (IMA) has worked with Clowes Developments to provide all architectural services and act as Principal Designer on the scheme. The company has also worked alongside Millward Consulting Engineers and Roe Developments to deliver the site for Lidl and Wickes. The retailers will now bring in their own teams to carry out the bespoke fit out of the two stores. The 1.68-hectare Stadium Retail Park site has been built on a brownfield former industrial site that was derelict since 2014, located just off Nottingham Road. All amenities, landscaping and boundary treatments are now in place including car parking for 170 vehicles, including EV charging, parent and child parking and disabled spaces, and a service yard. It is expected that the new Wickes store will open before the Easter Weekend, and that the Lidl supermarket will open this summer. Marc Freeman, Director at Clowes Developments said: “The site had been derelict for 10 years and in the planning stage since 2018, so it’s positive that the site has now been developed and turned into an asset for the local community, creating jobs and bringing economic benefits to the town. We are sure the new Lidl and Wickes stores will be very popular.’’ Joe Travers, Associate Director at IMA Architects said: “This is our latest project with Clowes Developments, and we are pleased that the site has been delivered on time and will soon be a thriving retail location. Given the close proximity of residents, we were considerate to their needs throughout the construction phase and our designs for the site include additional landscaping, boundary treatments and acoustic mitigation measures to improve aesthetics and to ensure the scheme does not adversely impact people going forward.” Sarah Taitt, Property Director at Wickes said: “We are looking forward to opening our doors in Long Eaton in the coming months. We have been involved in the creation of the site from inception to completion which has meant that we could develop a location that perfectly suited our needs, and we are delighted with our new store at Stadium Retail Park.’’ Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Dominic Bryan, commented: ‘’There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and its great that we are now able to enter the next stages of development. We are extremely grateful for all the support we have received so far and look forward to bringing our high quality and best value produce to the local community.” Clowes Developments is one of the UK’s largest and strongest privately-owned property investment and development organisations. Headquartered in Ednaston, Derbyshire, the company are experts in land acquisition and promotion, property development and asset management, with 18,000 consented residential plots and 3,000 acres of development pipeline across the UK.  IMA is an award-winning firm of architects based in Blaby, Leicestershire. Castlehouse Construction Completes Phase 1 of Treadmills regeneration project in Northallerton

Leeds-based contractor Castlehouse Construction has completed Phase 1 of the Treadmills regeneration development at the former Northallerton Prison site.   The company has handed over three retail units, one of which will be occupied by supermarket group Lidl – the retail anchor for the £17m scheme. The second unit will be occupied by frozen food specialist Iceland and the third 1,300 sq ft unit is available for occupation.   A car park on the south side of the site has also been delivered. Driven forward by the Central Northallerton Development Company Ltd (CNDCL), a joint venture between Hambleton District Council and leading Yorkshire developer Wykeland Group, the scheme will cement a new future for the old Grade II listed prison buildings by transforming the major landmark into an exciting, new mixed-use destination incorporating retail, leisure and office space. Despite a challenging climate with the pandemic, Castlehouse carried out all construction work on site with extensive and stringent safety measures in place, complying fully with Government and construction industry guidelines introduced in response to Covid-19. Castlehouse is currently on site fitting out the Lidl store, closely followed by Iceland, with both stores earmarked to open their doors to the public this autumn. The northern part of the site, including five Grade II listed Victorian former prison blocks, forms part of the second phase of the development which is well underway by a local contractor and involves external restoration and extensive internal redevelopment of four of the five buildings.  The final building, the tenement block, will be converted at a later stage.    The former main cell block and the female wing will house the 7,000 sq ft Centre for Digital Innovation (C4DI) Northallerton, a new community of tech specialists, building on the Hull-based C4DI digital hub’s success. Richard Lumley, Chairman of Castlehouse Construction said: “We are delighted to hand over Phase 1 of this exciting regeneration development in spite of a challenging backdrop.   We are extremely proud of the team who worked diligently to deliver a key part of the scheme, providing the Hambleton and wider community with some great retail names as part of the development’s strategic vision.” Leader of Hambleton District Council, Councillor Mark Robson said: “This handover marks the first step in Hambleton’s ambitious plans to regenerate the former prison site – having Lidl and Iceland opening up before Christmas will be a huge economic boost for Northallerton’s High Street and contribute to our vision to make our market town’s vibrant. “In 2021 we will see C4Di open in one of the listed buildings on the site and that will bring in businesses to the town.  It is a very exciting time for Northallerton and Hambleton district.” Jonathan Stubbs, Wykeland Development Director and a CNDCL Board member, said: “The completion of construction on phase one of Treadmills is a major milestone in the delivery of this exciting regeneration project and we’re now looking forward to the opening of the Lidl and Iceland stores. “This is one of many developments we are moving forward across the region to deliver new investment and jobs that are vital to the post-Covid economic recovery.”

Winvic Secured New Lidl HQ Contract

The contract to build a new UK headquarters in Tolworth for Lidl has been secured by main multidisciplinary contractor Winvic Construction Ltd. The 250,000 sq. ft. building will be just five miles from Lidl’s current HQ in Wimbledon and is expected to take two years to complete. “Securing the Lidl Headquarters contract is in part testament to Winvic’s ability to exceed client expectations. We are delighted that the supermarket giant wants to now benefit from our commercial project expertise, following Winvic’s completion of its Exeter distribution warehouse in 2017. The larger office space that will allow Lidl to grow its business even further, will be ready for occupation in two years,” said Winvic Director, Danny Nelson. Winvic has been appointed due to their extensive experience across a wide range of sectors, its 100% record of on-schedule delivery and their successful completion of Lidl’s UK Distribution Centre in Exeter. Distribution Centres are also underway in Motherwell and Doncaster. While the main contractor has made its reputation as the UK’s leading ‘shed specialist’, it has enjoyed sustained growth in the retail, PRS and civils sectors as well as constructing individual large commercial offices and whole business parks. “We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Winvic, to construct our new headquarters. It is a company much like Lidl, with ambitions of continued growth and exacting standards; we have every confidence that the building will be delivered with the same passion as the other Lidl developments Winvic has completed and is currently undertaking,” commented Ingo Fischer, Lidl UK Board Director for Expansion and Development. Lidl’s UK growth and future predicted market success has led them to outgrow their current site and a greater need for space to support its employees; the new facility will generate further jobs, a boost to the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and will help to support the supermarket’s expansion across the country.

LIDL Developments in Holland

The future of commerce in the Netherlands at least among LIDL delegates seems even more cemented for a lucrative future following the deal its E-Commerce branch has made with Delin CAM on an area of land in the bustling Roosendaal region of the country. In total, no less than 58,000 square meters have been agreed on between the two large and profitable enterprises. By pre-letting this large piece of land to LIDL, it is hoped that even more logistical developments and plans for building will continue in order to ensure the future of e-commerce in the thriving region as well as in that of Holland as a whole, and for the rest of Europe in the North Western regions of the world for that matter. The Benelex region will also witness significant growth and retail expansion as the year progresses further on into March and April, with a total of 100,000 square meters of the overall 150,000 square meters expected to already be in the stages of building and development by the end of this very year. This clearly demonstrates the logistical developments that are taking place within LIDL itself and other retail sectors, meaning that enterprises like DCAM can invest even more than ever before into building space for these companies to organize their logistical developments across the whole of Europe. In Amsterdam Park, a particularly popular logistics site due to its strategic proximity to the busy port of the same city, DCAM will devote themselves to pursuing the construction of warehouse space in amounts totaling 35,000 square meters of space for companies with the rent funding capacity to use for their logistics procedures and for storage. With reliable contractual development company Unibouw expected to complete the building, design and construction of the warehouse space and with plans to have it up and run by early next year of 2018, the future of DCAM and companies such as LIDL looks bright in Holland.

Clugston Construction Secures Multi Million Pound Contract for New Generation Lidl

Clugston Construction, part of the privately owned Clugston Group, has secured a multi-million pound contract to build a new Lidl supermarket in Scarborough. The scheme is one of a new generation of sleek energy efficient stores currently being rolled out throughout the UK by Lidl, and is being built by Clugston Construction’s North East office. Once complete in January next year, it will form a key part of a wider residential development, also under construction on the site of the Town’s former football stadium. The new store is designed to put customers and Lidl employees at the heart of it, while also boasting a brand new architectural structure and spacious layout which, with its wider aisles, longer tills, restroom and baby changing facilities, will offer an enhanced shopping experience and superior welfare facilities for Lidl’s growing customer base. The new concept Lidl store will also use the latest energy efficient technology to cut down on its environmental impact. The building will reduce the CO2 emission rate by more than 20% in comparison with a building of the same type, size and use; which is around 40 tons of CO2 per year. This is equal to nine households, which would take eight cars off the road for a year or flying a jumbo jet for over 700 miles. Commenting on the new store Lidl UK Regional Head of Property, David Murphy, said: “We are really excited at the prospect of bringing a new store to Scarborough. This marks a substantial investment in the local community and will create 40 new jobs when the store opens. We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support and look forward to opening our doors in the not too distant future.” Andy Mackintosh, Clugston Construction regional manager for the North East commented, “We’re delighted to be working on the Lidl development in Scarborough, which continues Clugston Construction’s expansion in the region. We are looking forward to delivering a successful project.” Clugston Construction is working alongside Space Architecture and structural engineering company, HPBW Civil & Engineering Service on the project.
