Orbit Homes to deliver 220 properties at brand-new development in Suffolk

Orbit Homes is set to deliver 220 properties at a brand-new development in the village of Reydon, Suffolk. The proposed scheme located on Copperwheat Avenue, will comprise 44 affordable rent, 74 shared ownership and 84 market sale houses, as well as 11 self-build plots, and seven coastal erosion replacement properties. A choice of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes will be available. The development has received funding from the Homes England Strategic Partnership scheme for the delivery of affordable homes. Orbit Homes purchased the site from WM Denny & Sons, and Chartwell Industries. The expected start date for the scheme is 2025, with work expected to conclude in 2029. Ray Winney, Regional Managing Director at Orbit Homes, said: “We are excited to unveil plans for our brand-new development in the village of Reydon, Suffolk. This is an area of high affordability pressure, so we are pleased to be delivering 118 affordable properties for the local community, as well as 84 available to purchase through market sale. The site is located less than two miles from the desirable seaside town of Southwold, making it the perfect location for families, as well as couples and those looking to size-down.  “All of our Orbit Homes developments are designed to be tenure-blind, which means customers receive the same commitment to design, specification, and safety, whether they purchase through shared ownership, market sale or affordable rent. I look forward to seeing the site progress over the years, and to creating a thriving new community in the East.” Orbit Homes currently has nine thriving new communities underway in East Anglia, comprising a range of affordable two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, including some rarely available new build bungalows. A mixture of purchasing options is available, including market sale and shared ownership. To find out more about the range of properties Orbit Homes offers, click here. Complete Fibre, Orbit Group and Lightning Fibre rollout new ‘plug and play’ full-fibre offer for residents across South East

Complete Fibre, Orbit Group and Lightning Fibre rollout new ‘plug and play’ full-fibre offer for residents across South East

Full-fibre infrastructure specialist Complete Fibre and leading UK housing group Orbit are collaborating to rollout safe, hyper-reliable, hyper-fast broadband in blocks of flats across the South East. Complete Fibre will manage access to the buildings as well as installing a single, open-access ‘plug-and-play’ digital infrastructure within Orbit’s blocks of flats (also known as Multi Dwelling Units, or MDUs) which Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can connect into, to provide full-fibre to residents. Lightning Fibre is the first ISP to plug into Complete Fibre’s infrastructure in Orbit buildings to provide residents safe, ultra-fast fibre broadband and boost digital inclusivity in the region. Multiple ISPs can connect into Complete Fibre’s plug-and-play solution, offering Orbit’s residents more choice when selecting full-fibre packages. Eddie Minshull, CEO of Complete Fibre, explained: “We’re the bridge between landlords and telecommunications providers. By installing one plug-and-play solution, ISPs can deliver their services via existing infrastructure rather than each company needing to install its own network. “We’re delighted that Lightning Fibre are working with us to offer Full Fibre for residents in the South East. Together, we can meet stringent safety standards, reduce disruption of multiple installations for residents and reduce the carbon footprint for fibre infrastructure builds by up to 75%*.    “Amid a race to lay fibre infrastructure to hit the government’s target of at least 85% gigabit coverage by 2025, this innovative approach, developed with support from Trenches Law, eliminates the need for statutory intervention in the market. It empowers landlords to manage digital connectivity with a strategic and planned approach and meets the needs of residents, developers, and ISPs. Orbit is one of the largest housing groups in the UK, has a growing portfolio of over 46,500 homes spanning the Midlands, East and South.  Tony Clark, Director of Property Operations at Orbit, said: “In addition to providing quality, safe, and affordable homes, we’re committed to offering wider support to help our customers in their day-to-day lives. Working with Complete Fibre to offer our customers access to reliable, ultra-fast digital connectivity is just one of the ways in which we can help to support them in their work and education, as well as provide them with easier access to community and online services.” Tim Passingham, Chairman of Lightning Fibre, added: “We’re committed to driving digital inclusion and bringing hyper fast broadband to communities in the South East. Utilising Complete Fibre, we’re able to give Orbit and their residents access to a choice of providers, and for our part, we’ll do so with a fair pricing model and a keen focus on customer care. This way of working also contributes to Lightning’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions – fewer installations mean less material and more efficient energy usage.”  *Compared to four telecoms companies installing fibre infrastructure in one building.   Building, Design & Construction Magazine | The Choice of Industry Professionals

Inspirational local women honoured with street names at new Orbit Homes development in Hastings

Inspirational local women have been honoured with street names at a brand-new Orbit Homes development in Hastings. Eversfield Rise on Harrow Lane is a joint venture with modular housebuilder ilke Homes and will deliver 140 affordable properties. The five street names were selected in partnership with Hastings Borough Council and recognise local women who had significant personal achievements or contributed to the Hastings community: Brian Nearney, Regional Managing Director at Orbit Homes, said: “We’re delighted to be paying tribute to these five inspirational local women. Naming streets in this way carries real significance and will help to build our new community, as well as reinforce its important links to the wider local area. We’re thrilled and proud to place their names at our new development and very much see this as a celebration of their achievements, that have helped inspire generations.” Matthew Suggitt, Development Director at ilke Homes, added: “In partnership with Orbit Homes, ilke are proud to be delivering an exemplar development employing the use of pioneering Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). Paying tribute to these local women’s trailblazing work and capturing it with permanence through the street naming of this innovative development is a fitting celebration of their resilience and relevance.” Cllr Maya Evans, Lead Member for Housing, commented: “Hastings is a town full of strong women both past and present, it’s very fitting to celebrate some of these incredible women by commemorating them in name with these much-needed high quality, sustainable, affordable homes, which are being delivered during an acute housing shortage. I have no doubt that these dwellings will be the birthplace of many more revolutionary women who challenge the status quo and strive for equality and justice. This is a proud and historical moment for Hastings.” Eversfield Rise will consist of 70 affordable rent and 70 shared ownership properties. A mixed tenure of apartments and houses will be offered, ranging in sizes from one to four-bedroom homes. Eighty-four of the properties will be zero-carbon, helping to protect consumers from rising energy bills. The new homes will be available from Autumn 2023. Orbit Homes currently has seven brand-new thriving communities underway in the South of England, comprising a range of affordable two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes.
