The Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) is considering an intervention in the proposed acquisition of Pure Asphalt Company by IKO.

IKO agreed terms with the shareholders of Pure Asphalt Company in April and had anticipated completing the deal by the end of July 2016. The CMA is now investigating the potential impact on competition in the industry

Wigan-based IKO makes roofing and waterproofing materials; Pure Asphalt, based nearby in Bolton, is one of the leading mastic asphalt manufacturers in the UK, supplying products for roofing, flooring, paving and tanking.

The CMA invites comments on the transaction from any interested party to carole.bowley@cma.gsi.gov.uk. Deadline for comments is 14th July 2016 and the expected decision date is 25th August 2016.
