Kawneer systems help with healthcare in Scotland

Category: Construction Industry Today | Subscribe to Construction Industry Today Feed Published Fri, May 27th 2016 Elements from all of Kawneer’s ranges are being used on a new hospital. Posted via Industry Today. Follow us on Twitter @IndustryToday Work has begun on the installation of Kawneer curtain walling, windows and doors on the new £270 million state-of-the-art Dumfries and Galloway Hospital. The Kawneer systems – AA®100 zone-drained and SSG (Structurally Silicone Glazed) curtain walling with 50mm sightlines, AA®720 heavy-duty commercial entrance doors, and AA®720 pivot and top-hung casement windows – are being installed by specialist sub-contractor CMS Window Systems throughout the main acute district hospital building and three annexes. These comprise a diagnostic and treatment bar, inpatient pavilions, and a women’s and children’s hospital, all of which are individually expressed to create a vibrant but ordered composition. At the same time, the design by Ryder Architecture in collaboration with NBBJ has been considered holistically, developing the form and massing as a direct expression of the function of the facilities while integrating these into a ‘whole campus’ development just off the Dumfries bypass. Wards are being created on a 28 single-rooms model and all will have en-suite facilities to provide improved privacy, dignity and confidentiality for patients, while reducing the risk of cross infection. It will also provide patients with a brand-new emergency care department, a combined theatre complex for day surgery, endoscopy and surgical patients, and consolidated ambulatory care. Additional staff residences, a helipad and 980 car parking spaces will complete the complex which is due for completion late in 2017. Developed by the High Wood Health consortium in partnership with NHS Dumfries and Galloway, the new hospital will provide an extensive range of facilities consistent with four other healthcare projects being procured under the Scottish Government’s NPD (non-profit distribution) model. The new Dumfries and Galloway district general hospital presents a strong and unique presence, responding to the characteristics and the vernacular of the region, creating a welcoming environment and a distinct sense of place. ENDS  Source link
