Initiative By Network Rail to Solve Flooding

Fulwell Station in the vicinity of Richmond-upon-Thames now has a new drainage system implemented into its works by Network Rail that will enable passengers to not have to worry any longer about the station flooding with water as it has done for so long in the past. Since it was constructed under Longford River way back in 1864, the train services have frequently been hit with water leaks that have damaged the electric systems that had been put in place to control and signal the trains coming to and from the station.

This therefore resulted that there would be frequent delays to the rail transport services to Fulwell and was a real pain for passengers traveling there and caused disruptions for other services operating in the Richmond-upon-Thames area. It is evident for a start that these repairs have been a long time but that finally Network Rail committed to the plans and a new drainage pumping system has been put in place in order to solve this problem. The new lagoon will store rainwater coming from the new system and will be able to contain a grand total of 2 million liters, meaning that it will be a long time hopefully before any more floods disrupt the rail services along the Fulwell station.

As Becky Lumlock of Network Rail, the all new pumping system that has been put into place will have the enormous capacity to be able to shift 225 liters of rain water every single second. This demonstrates the speed and competency of the new system in place and will enable the passengers along Fulwell to finally be able to enjoy a service that runs fine even with the torrential downpours of rain that are occurring at this time of year. Whilst a large amount of initiatives were tried and tested but failed to resolve the problem, it seems that Network Rail have finally succeeded in rectifying the situation.
