New Consumer Code For New Homes Has Been Introduced

A new Consumer Code for New Homes has been introduced in order to provide protection for any individual or family that have purchased new builds. The Federation of Master Builders’ insurance arm has joined the Consumer Code and has said that the Code will allow for the highest standard of customer service during the single biggest purchase most people make in their lives. The Federation have joined the CCNH in order to reassure their customers that they will fulfill their transparency and building excellence obligations. When more and more houses are needed, and builders are under pressure to deliver houses in order to meet the housing demand, it is important that the quality of houses being produced doesn’t slip.

The quality of their homes are the key selling point of smaller local developers. However Small developers only deliver a small quantity of the houses needed to meet the demand. These lower volumes of properties mean that smaller house building companies are focused on maintaining their reputation for building homes at the highest standard. This high standard is what the members of the Federation are tested for. This is why the FMB have been able to join the CCNH. Joining this Consumer Code will add more reassurance to home buyers as well as offer an increase of consumer protection.

The Code will mean that home buyers are protected when purchasing a new house and will still be protected for several years after they have moved in to the property. Until the new CCNH, there was the Consumer Code for Home Builders that included the NHBC, LABC Warranty and the Premier Guarantee. The LABC Warranty was set up by the warranty providers and was the only one available. Now that the CCNH has been introduced, there should be an increased choice as well as higher standards of consumer protection. The CCNH will be an umbrella code to be used by other warranty providers.
