VPS Site Security has added a wireless emergency system to their early warning fire safety and evacuation network in order to enhance the special range of rental products and services that they offer. The VPS FireAlert Wes+ has already managed to build a significant track record. It has been predicted that more than 50,000 units are operating as part of the safety and evacuation systems in some of the largest and well known construction sites around Europe. The sites that are currently using the VPS FireAlert Wes+ includes Cross Rail and Heathrow. It has also been stated that the majority of the top building companies have selected the Construction site protection experts new service; including Vinci Bouygues, Balfour Beatty, Skanska UK, Kier and Morgan Sindall.
There is a high level of risk in terms of safety in some areas of construction sites, but fire can be a particular risk on site. A small spark coming from a sander, chopsaw, blow torch, or the ash from a cigarette can catch on to typical and flammable construction materials like wood, solvents packaging and fuel. As an example of this, last year a fire started at the Paris Ritz hotel and took over the top floor as it was undergoing some refurbishment works. The fire led to 150 building workers having to be evacuated from the site. Another example occurring more recently there was an enormous fire that destroyed a seven storey apartment building that was under construction in Raleigh, North Carolina.
It is thought that the VPS Fire Alert We+ mobile wireless fire safety and evacuation system is a piece of technology that is advanced enough to act as a solution for the construction industry, and is also fully approved and externally certified as reaching the European EN54 standard required for fire alarms. The system is also CE marked and has been created to be compliant with all of the key safety guidelines and legislation. By meeting all the required safety guidelines, the product helps to meet insurers’ legal requirements and recommendations which can also protect construction sites should the works happen. The system also offers flexibility as the construction site changes and up to 250 units can be wirelessly networked.
