Industrial Metal Services have announced that they have saved more than £250,000 a year by improving their vehicle routing as well as the driving behaviour of their drivers across their 55-strong truck fleet.

The steel stockholding company have managed to make their operations more efficient after integrating the WEBFLEET fleet management solution which has been developed by TomTom Telematics and Maxoptra’s route planning and scheduling software. The systems have been implemented at Industrial Metal Services by the Gold Partner of TomTom Telematics, Communicate Better.

Industrial Metal Solutions has implemented the new fleet management solutions from TomTom and Maxoptra across their fleet of trucks in order to help the company plan their deliveries in a more dynamic way as well as utilise vehicle location data and estimated times of arrival. WEBFLEET is used to send route and schedule information and is then sent to IMS’s mobile workers through their TomTom PRO 8275 TRUCK driver terminals. The company uses this system to allocate more than 400 delivery jobs every day. These jobs are now allocated according to the quickest arrival times, taking into account traffic information as well as historic route data.

IMS has updated and uses the WEBFLEET system in order to keep their businesses up to date with more accurate arrival times, using the technology to easily and quickly adjust arrival times according to traffic delays and other problems that could possibly occur. Being able to keep businesses informed has led to an improvement of the company’s customer experience.

The miles that have been cut through the routing systems installed has led to an annual saving of more than £191,000. It is thought that this saving has come from an anticipated reduction in vehicle maintenance as well as an increase in productivity.

There is also a driver improvement programme, underpinned with OptiDrive 360 which is a component of WEBFLEET. This training programme has boosted the number of mile travelled per gallon which is thought to lead to further savings for IMS of around £62,000 each year. OptiDrive 360 is a programme that scores drivers according to a range of key performance indicators as well as offering real-time feedback for the drivers and advice that will help them to improve their driving performance.
