OFTEC registrations now include biomass

OFTEC registrations now include biomass Published:  05 May, 2016 OFTEC has announced that biomass registration (OFT505) is now available to all installers, completing its range of competent person and microgeneration certification scheme registration services. Existing technicians, as well as those new to OFTEC, can now sign up and benefit not only from OFTEC’s traditional oil registration services, but also solid fuel, Part P and the three most popular renewable heating options: heat pumps, solar thermal and biomass. Like OFTEC’s other renewable scopes, biomass registration enables technicians to self-certify installations in accordance with building regulations in England, Wales, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands and also includes the option to add MCS registration. Adrian Lightwood, OFTEC’s registration director, said: “Adding biomass to our registration portfolio completes our range of off grid products and consolidates OFTEC’s position as a competent person scheme provider within the heating industry. “Further extending the range of specialist support we provide means technicians can now benefit from a complete solid fuel registration service covering both traditional and renewable options. It’s also worth noting that technicians looking to expand their businesses and register across multiple heating technologies can obtain very significant savings and the administration process is also greatly reduced which is a big plus.” Technicians considering biomass registration will need to hold an independent qualification mapped to the relevant Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) units or the new Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) units introduced in September 2015. Alternatively, applications can be made via the ‘experienced worker route’ for those with demonstrable experience and manufacturers’ training. Other benefits of registration include the use of OFTEC’s new range of logos, which cover all heating technologies offered and provide customers with assurance of a professional service; access to free technical advice; discounts at OFTEC’s online shop and free listings on OFTEC’s online consumer search. To apply, visit www.joinoftec.com website or, alternatively, call OFTEC’s registration team on 01473 626 298. Source link

Off Grid Launch new gridtogo™ System with Hyperdrive Technology

Off Grid the leading provider of efficient grid quality power solutions to be used by people in places where connecting to the National Grid is not possible has announced that they unveiled their most up to date version of gridtogo™ system this week. The new system has been available to see at the Low Carbon Networks & Innovation Conference which is located in Telford. The new gridtogo™ is being described as a powerful, reliable and portable hybrid power solution to be used for construction projects, events and utilities that can work together with a generator in order to reduce running hours and reduce fuel consumption. This latest solution that has been delivered by Off Grid Energy will also be fitted with battery technology supplied by Hyperdrive Innovation. Hyperdrive Innovation designs and builds lithium-ion battery systems that can be installed into electric cars, off highway vehicles and autonomous vehicles as well as home energy storage. The Sunderland-based developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion battery technology will help to increase the cost savings from gridtogo™ and will also help to further reduce CO2 and pollution emissions in order to improve the quality of air in towns and cities. When the generator runs, it has been manufactured to work as efficiently as possible with the spare energy contained in the technology that has been supplied by Hyperdrive. When the battery has been charged, and the demand for power is low, the generator can turn itself off and that energy that has been stored in the battery is then used to supply the load, reducing power use. When the battery runs low or demand increases, the generator stats back up automatically. The inclusion of the battery from Hyperdrive is seen as another major step for the company which has an increasing number of applications for their world leading technology. The modular battery system that has been supplied by the Sunderland based manufacturer.

REL Competes M&E Contract at Ebury Centre

REL was established more than 60 years ago and is a family-owned business who works to provide mechanical and electrical packages for clients who are a part of the industrial, commercial, leisure, educational and residential sectors. The company has completed a major electrical contract for a new college at the Ebury Centre which is located in London. The contract has been competed by REL on behalf of Bouygues UK. The M&E contractor have delivered the £1.5 million contract which forms a part of the £35 million mixed use scheme which is being constructed in London. The project has been designed by Sheppard Robson and is being built by Bouygues UK for the development company Linkcity. The Ebury Centre will merge educational facilities with the provision of a 10 storey residential development. The construction is taking place on a site next to the Ebury Bridge in London. REL’s involvement on this project consisted of the installation of the electrical services at the new 5,200 sq. m. University Technical College. The new facility will deliver the space for 550 pupils and also includes workshops that can be used for engineering as well as a gym and sports facilities and a large outdoor terrace. Kershaw Mechanical Services awarded the electrical services contract to REL, and the two companies worked together in the past to install lighting, security systems and access control as well as 120 solar panels on the roof of the development. The work that was specified as part of this Ebury contract was offered on a tight schedule, however, REL managed to successfully deliver the project within 10 months. The company had to make sure that the electrical elements that were installed met the high environmental targets that had been laid out by the UTC and have also been designed in order to meet the BREEAM Excellent Standard.

Makita Releases Two New Cordless Angle Grinders

Makita has announced the launch of two new powerful angle grinders. These heavy duty angle grinders have been introduced to the equipment manufacturer’s industrial range and are powered by twin 18v batteries, offering them 36v of power which is delivered to the high performance and brushless motor. The two products that have been introduced to this rang by Makita is the 180mm and the 230mm cordless angle grinders. The equipment offers a range of new features in order to deliver the most operation productivity for the user. The intention behind the creation of these new tools is to offer a mains machine performance with complete manoeuvrability. Both the 180mm DGA700 and the 230mm DGA900 angle grinders are both powered by high torque Brushless motors. This means that the tolls can run op to 7,800 rpm and 6,500 rpm respectively. Maximum wheel thickness offered for these two angle grinders is 7.2mm for the DGA700 and 6.5mm for the DGA900. Both of the new tools in Makita’s industrial range also feature Makita Active Feedback Sensing Technology. As well as the Makita Automatic Torque Driving Technology, which has been included to automatically change to cutting speed in order to suit working conditions and deliver optimum operation and maximum delivery. It is thought that there are no other angle grinders available on the market at the moment that offers a greater amount of intelligence. Another feature of these powerful cordless tools is the soft start that offers a reduced level of risk for torque twist on the initial start-up. There is also an electronic current limiter that shuts down the tool through the electric brake if the drive is snagged.
