GMI Construction Group Opens Office in Manchester

The Leeds established GMI Construction Group has opened a new office in Manchester city centre after a period of growth in projects across the North-West region. The company’s premises will be at 75 Dale Street in the Piccadilly Basin area and it has already created 15 permanent positions.

With an expected £100 million turnover for next year, the group is working onto its present successful projects in Manchester. The current contractors include the Dakota Deluxe hotel for Evans Property Group and Burlington House, a residential development for Belgravia Living Group.

“We are pleased to announce our expansion with a physical presence in the North West. We operate cautiously and as a result have remained profitable for the 31 years that we have been established. However, our success in the region has been the result of long term investment and we now feel that the time is right to commit to a permanent base,” said Andy Bruce, Managing Director at GMI Construction Group.

GMI’s previous projects in the region include Burnley Bridge Business Park in East Lancashire, The Hatbox in Manchester City Centre, and Jaguar Land Rover in Stockport. “I am delighted to take leadership of our Manchester office with a view to developing new and existing relationships and growing our portfolio of work in the region. It is exciting to be located in a developing area of the city where we can directly view progress of our own work of the Dakota Deluxe Hotel and Burlington House,” added Marc Banks, Commercial Director at GMI and the head of the team in Manchester.

GMI Construction Group was founded in 1986, offering expertise across all construction sectors including automotive, education, health, industrial, leisure, office, residential, and retail. Although the company is proud to have a nationwide portfolio, it has remained more successful in Yorkshire and the North East. Its current projects include the St James Retail Park in Sheffield and the £450 million development at Thorpe Park Leeds. With its headquarters in Leeds, GMI currently employs 80 people.
