Manchester Project Recognised at Offsite Construction Awards

This year’s Offsite Construction Awards, which celebrate the best in precision building design and delivery, have recognised a project led by ISG and Manchester City Council. The Beaver Road Primary School was named Education Project of the Year 2019 at the ceremony in London. What impressed the judges the most was ISG and Premier Modular’s integrated team approach to the project, which saw Beaver Road achieve RIBA Stage 5 in 19 weeks from a standing start and beat 32 other projects to win the highly-sought-after award. Volumetric, offsie manufacturing was used for the £7.2 million Beaver Road scheme to ensure the school could open ahead of the 2018/2019 academic year. This application saved at least 10 weeks against a traditional build programme. Ahead of the academic year in 2018, the ISG and Premier Modular team completed six projects for the council. This wider programme of schools was also recognised at the event, coming highly commended in the BIM/Digital Construction Award category. All six projects were to BIM Level 2, including a fully integrated asset information model. “Early engagement of the right supply chain and standard repeatable designs – informed by lessons learned from two earlier modular school schemes – allowed us to ensure design for manufacture from the outset,” said Neil Walker, framework director at ISG. “The speed of the wider schools programme, including the project at Beaver Road, was extraordinary. Together the project team delivered six schools, with a construction value of circa £31 million in just 57 weeks from a standing start.”

Scaffolding Software Advantages and Disadvantages

Advances in AI-assisted 3D modelling have yielded numerous inexpensive scaffolding design software applications, which are changing scaffolding design methods in numerous ways. Scaffolding design software ranges from simple, free to use products to top of the range CAD applications. Most of them are generic 3D and 2D modelling platforms with added features to enable scaffolding design. Others are entirely dedicated to scaffold design and incorporate particular functions unique to scaffolding. Advantages Of Using Scaffold Design Software Many building contractors are turning to computer-aided design applications to draw up their scaffolding plans. Here’s why: Design applications are readily available and easy to use. Some of them don’t cost even a penny; several online platforms can instantly design a scaffolding plan for free given specific parameters. For contractors looking for a quick, simple solution, these applications come in handy. A majority of design applications feature a user-friendly interface and intuitive functions developed to prioritise ease of use. You don’t have to be a tech guru or a design expert to find your way around the programme’s features to create a working model. Disadvantages Of Using Scaffold Design Software Solely using CAD applications to design scaffolding has its downsides. Regardless of how dependable and precise the software is, you still need a human touch. For one, the design software can only handle so much intricate detailing and scale. It’s not designed to take over the entire project but rather guide the user on some of the key aspects and create a basic model for the design. Even the most advanced software is limited to a narrow range of simple designs that are often insufficient for challenging projects. This lack of flexibility and inability to scale leaves design software struggling in large projects. Hiring Professionals Outsourcing scaffolding design to experienced professionals saves you the trouble of having to deal with frustrating computer-generated designs that don’t fit your project. Design applications are great at solving predictable problems, but they cannot match up to the adaptive judgement and problem-solving skills of a design expert. A designer will give thought to your needs and develop a suitable plan that is fully compliant with health and safety regulations while still being practical and economical. From experience, the designer can also offer you guidance and suggestions to steer your project in a more productive direction. At Access Design & Safety. We have years of experience in designing and inspecting scaffolding for construction and other projects. We supplement our professional expertise with the latest CAD solutions to deliver modern designs that are fully compliant with the newest safety codes. Don’t get frustrated over flawed, non-insured, non-compliant DIY designs – get in touch with us for a stress-free scaffolding design specifically for you.

Why holidaymakers are choosing Malaga airport as their destination

Malaga airport sees around 19 million visitors each year, and is Spain’s fourth largest airport after Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Majorca. So why are so many people choosing Malaga as the destination of choice for this year’s holiday? Well the simple answer is that Malaga airport is perfectly situated for going to the beautiful Costa del Sol and visiting the rest of Andalucia. This part of Spain enjoys over 300 days of amazing sunshine every single year, and a wealth of history and culture, delicious gastronomy and seafood and outstanding coastal views, it is no wonder it is so popular with travellers. Added to this, this busy international airport has hundreds of flights arriving and departing every day from across Europe and the world, including from lower cost budget airlines and so the options available for travellers are a lot more flexible and budgets affordable. Your journey made easier with great facilities With Malaga airport being such an important one, with three terminals and many facilities available, it makes visiting just that little bit easier. For arranging onward travel, especially if you want the freedom to explore the area then car hire in Malaga airport is a great option. There are many choices available of car size and rental package is additional extras that can all be booked online in advance which means that when you arrive you don’t have to worry about fighting the crowds for car hire. You can simply head to a transfer bus that will take you directly to the pick up site and be on your way quickly and easily. Many places are accessible 24 hours a day should you need assistance. Easy access to the Costa del Sol The location of the airport is perfect. It is a mere 8km from Malaga city center, a fantastic place to visit with a rich history showing roman and moorish influences, and great traditional cuisine. For art lovers this is also the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and there is plenty of opportunities to see his works and those of artists who were influenced by this great painter and sculptor. This is one of the best Malaga tourist attractions that you should see. It is also really easy to get to the popular holiday towns and resorts within a relatively short transfer time. For example Torremolinos and Benalmadena are all pretty close for family holidays. And at the other end of the scale for luxury and party holidays then Marbella and Puerto Banus are also very close by. Great for road trips across Andalucia If you really want to get a true taste of Spain, then flying into Malaga airport, using the city as a base and then getting out on the road to see everything the region has to offer is a brilliant idea, especially if you have thought ahead and booked a hire car. You can cruise up and down the amazing coastline visiting beaches, coves and villages usually out of reach for the average traveller. To give an example, the lovely fishing village of Nerja, with it’s white washed buildings and unspoilt streets is one not to be missed. It is also worth visiting the great cave network outside the village, where you can head underground and explore where the Neanderthals lived. Sometimes they hold classical concerts in those caves if you are lucky enough to visit at the right time. The acoustics are like no other. You can also head out to Grenada, a place of great beauty and fascinating heritage and architecture. It is only around an hour and a half away from Malaga, and has some of the most spectacular moorish buildings in the world, including the world famous Alhambra palace.

Scandinavian-style rebrand hopes to elevate Cibes to new heights

Cibes Lift UK has unveiled its new global rebrand to demonstrate how the company has changed since it was established in the 1940s – as well as hinting at its intentions for future expansion.   Its old logo featured a man flexing his muscles, which the company say successfully communicated its former focus on manufacturing goods lifting equipment.  But bosses say it didn’t represent the current business offering of providing lift solutions to increase access in buildings across private dwellings and commercial buildings.  Gary Sullivan, Head of Sales and Marketing, said: “The strongman logo was a great symbol for Cibes when the company manufactured lifting equipment for the Swedish industry.   “Seventy years later, times have changed. Today we are making lift solutions for the different needs of our customers across the world.  “Cibes’ new logo combines the simplicity of Scandinavian design with the vertical movement of a lift.   “The ascending ‘e’ is a playful allusion to the movement during lift travel – but also a tribute to a company on the up.”  The company decided to stick with its trademark orange for recognition and says that the bottom segment of the ‘e’ – which appears at the top of the logo – is to demonstrate the joy of bringing people together through its lifts.  Over the past few years Cibes has expanded rapidly into various global markets and within the next five years the Cibes Lift Group – of which Cibes Lift UK is part – aims to grow revenue from €100m to €223m.   The new logo is designed by the Dutch company Matisse.  It’s been a busy start to 2019 for Cibes Lift UK – another key achievement was gaining two ISO certifications: Health and Safety Management standard ISO 45001:2018 and Environmental Management standard ISO 14001:2015.  For more information about installing a Cibes Lift UK lift at your business premises – in a fuss free and efficient way – visit https://www.cibeslift.com/gb/.

CROSSMAN HOMES TO INSTALL ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING POINTS AT ALL DEVELOPMENTS

House builders Crossman Homes is installing electric car charging points at five of its recent developments and has committed to integrating them in all future schemes.  The company will be installing charging points at its developments at Weston Park and at Lansdown Court in Lansdown in Bath and at Speedwell Baths, Master’s Church and in Totterdown in Bristol. Brad Hughes, Crossman Homes, says:  “As responsible developers it is our duty to ensure we’ve future proofed our developments and made provision for our home owners to make greener choices when it comes to transport and travelling, and often this starts at home.  We’ll be installing electric car charging points at all of our developments in the future. “Electric car ownership is growing in popularity and will soon be much more accessible to many more drivers so anything we can do to make owning and charging these vehicles easier can only be a good thing.  Only recently we replaced our company maintenance van with an electric one so we understand how vital it is to have access to charging points.” Figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show a dramatic rise in electric car sales in the UK.  Registrations increased to an average of 5,000 per month in 2018.
