MP calls on more people to join the construction industry

""Jim Cunningham, MP for Coventry South, visited a local building site last week (Friday 17th June) as part of week-long campaign to get more people into the construction industry

.Mr Cunningham visited a new accommodation development at Warwick University during Open Doors 2016, a joint initiative between the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and Build UK.

More workers are urgently needed in the industry, as CITB predicts over 230,000 new construction jobs will be created in the UK over the next five years.

Jim Cunningham MP said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit last week. It just proves how successful and rewarding a career in construction can be. After experiencing Open Doors 2016, I would encourage everyone to consider a career in construction.”

Suzannah Nichol, Build UK Chief Executive, said: “I joined the industry after a visit to a local construction site and hopefully Open Doors can get even more young people and others looking for something new to get involved in one of the many careers we have to offer.

“Construction is a great place to be and the buzz onsite is infectious. We are so pleased to give Open Doors visitors that same buzz and the chance to see what the industry is all about.”
