Off Grid Launch new gridtogo™ System with Hyperdrive Technology

Off Grid the leading provider of efficient grid quality power solutions to be used by people in places where connecting to the National Grid is not possible has announced that they unveiled their most up to date version of gridtogo™ system this week. The new system has been available to see at the Low Carbon Networks & Innovation Conference which is located in Telford. The new gridtogo™ is being described as a powerful, reliable and portable hybrid power solution to be used for construction projects, events and utilities that can work together with a generator in order to reduce running hours and reduce fuel consumption. This latest solution that has been delivered by Off Grid Energy will also be fitted with battery technology supplied by Hyperdrive Innovation. Hyperdrive Innovation designs and builds lithium-ion battery systems that can be installed into electric cars, off highway vehicles and autonomous vehicles as well as home energy storage. The Sunderland-based developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion battery technology will help to increase the cost savings from gridtogo™ and will also help to further reduce CO2 and pollution emissions in order to improve the quality of air in towns and cities. When the generator runs, it has been manufactured to work as efficiently as possible with the spare energy contained in the technology that has been supplied by Hyperdrive. When the battery has been charged, and the demand for power is low, the generator can turn itself off and that energy that has been stored in the battery is then used to supply the load, reducing power use. When the battery runs low or demand increases, the generator stats back up automatically. The inclusion of the battery from Hyperdrive is seen as another major step for the company which has an increasing number of applications for their world leading technology. The modular battery system that has been supplied by the Sunderland based manufacturer.

The company has completed a major electrical contract for a new college at the Ebury Centre which is located in London. The contract has been competed by REL on behalf of Bouygues UK. The M&E contractor have delivered the £1.5 million contract which forms a part of the £35 million mixed use scheme which is being constructed in London. The project has been designed by Sheppard Robson and is being built by Bouygues UK for the development company Linkcity. The Ebury Centre will merge educational facilities with the provision of a 10 storey residential development. The construction is taking place on a site next to the Ebury Bridge in London. REL’s involvement on this project consisted of the installation of the electrical services at the new 5,200 sq. m. University Technical College. The new facility will deliver the space for 550 pupils and also includes workshops that can be used for engineering as well as a gym and sports facilities and a large outdoor terrace. Kershaw Mechanical Services awarded the electrical services contract to REL, and the two companies worked together in the past to install lighting, security systems and access control as well as 120 solar panels on the roof of the development. The work that was specified as part of this Ebury contract was offered on a tight schedule, however, REL managed to successfully deliver the project within 10 months. The company had to make sure that the electrical elements that were installed met the high environmental targets that had been laid out by the UTC and have also been designed in order to meet the BREEAM Excellent Standard.

Centrica shareholders protest over pay

Iain Conn, chief executive of Centrica Centrica suffered a significant protest from shareholders over its decision to pay £3m to Iain Conn for 2015, his first year as chief executive of the group. The British Gas owner said 15 per cent of votes cast by 72 per cent of large shareholders ahead of the annual meeting went against the pay deal. More On this topic IN Utilities The rebellion is smaller than last year, when more than a third of shareholders voted against Centrica’s decision to grant Mr Conn share options worth up to £2.7m on joining the company. It means Centrica will avoid a defeat over pay, as suffered by BP last week over its decision to grant Bob Dudley, its chief executive, a 20 per cent pay rise for 2015. There are still signs of some unhappiness at Mr Conn’s pay, however, given that the company made £857m of operating losses for 2015. John Farmer, one shareholder, told the meeting: “Over the past seven years shareholder returns have been a paltry 20 per cent . . . [but] the chief executive is receiving some £3m.” British Gas revealed on Monday that it had suffered a dip in customer numbers in the first quarter of the year, losing 1.5 per cent of home supply accounts even as the number of customer complaints fell. Centrica said a higher number of customers than normal switched away during the first three months of 2016. Across the market, 500,000 energy customers switched supplier in March. But the company added that it remained on track to make more than £2bn in adjusted cash flow this year. As part of its efforts to do so, it cut 800 jobs in the first quarter, part of the 3,000 job losses it had already announced for the year. Centrica, like other companies with significant electricity generation, has suffered as the price of oil has crashed, bringing down wholesale power prices with it.
