Mick George Ltd Splash Out on Stabilisation Kit

Having announced the appointment of two new Senior Stabilisation Managers at the back end of 2018, Mick George Ltd has further signalled its intent to grow their Stabilisation division with the six-figure acquisition of an impressive Wirtgen 250i ‘S Pack’. Having landed many high-profile contracts for its Stabilisation service in recent times, the Wirtgen 250i has been thrust straight in to action at the National Trusts Wimpole Estate, Cambridgeshire as part of a ‘Welcome Project’ that Mick George Ltd are completing various enabling works at. The new machine adds to an already extensive fleet of equipment but will certainly advance the Stabilisation offering by Mick George Ltd. Commonly considered ‘unrivalled’ when it comes to mobile spreading machinery, the Wirtgen 250i offers cost-efficiency, technical sophistication, optimised control systems and the ability to confront the most difficult terrains. The ‘S Pack’ has the advanced capability to spread binding agent without generating clouds of dusts, thus lowering emission levels, permitting Mick George Ltd to tackle those environments where strict emission standards exist. Yet another advantage for Mick George Ltd over its counterparts that operate the more entry level equipment. Michael George, Managing Director of Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’To maintain the exceptionally high standards that we set, we recognise the importance in continuously investing right across the business; in personnel, sites, vehicles and equipment.’’ George continued: ‘’The construction industry is ever evolving, with Stabilisation and Remediation solutions more frequently utilised in many developments. The new machine allows us to extend our offering and ensure we’re providing the same high quality that we do with all our Earthworks provisions.’’

Winvic and ICE Partner to Provide Professional Training Scheme to Graduate Employees

Multidisciplinary main contractor, Winvic Construction Ltd, announced its partnership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) yesterday, to offer graduates a training programme in order to gain the specialist skills, knowledge and professional approach required to practice as a civil engineer. The ICE Training Scheme forms part of an employee’s 12 month initial professional development period, which bridges the gap between education and professional qualifications. The structured training will be delivered in-house by Winvic and this leads to sitting the EngTech (MICE) Professional Review as a stepping stone to onward progression to IEng or CEng status. The diverse and thorough framework is tailored in relation to the individual’s previous, and often very recent, education route, specialist discipline and desired future professional qualification. The Scheme’s content is overseen by ICE, ensuring quality and methods, in order to maintain the highest standards. Tim Reeve, Winvic Technical Director, commented: “We have always taken the personal and professional development of our employees very seriously but with a significant increase in staff over the last few years we felt it was time to offer even more support. Our 93 percent staff retention rate indicates that the individuals who join our team after completing an Undergraduate or Master’s Degree are with us for a long time to come; it’s the people that make our business thrive and we owe it to them to help them be the best they can be.” Winvic will provide each trainee with a supervising civil engineer (SCE) and a delegated engineer (DE who will be experienced ICE Members; their roles will be to support and mentor, helping the individual to become multi-skilled, possess good technical, communication, commercial, people and legal knowledge, and understand the implications of their work across these areas. HR and Training Manager at Winvic, Rebecca Schwarz, added: “We are thrilled that ICE – such an important body within the global construction industry – sees our commitment for developing our employees, and that we have been chosen as a training partner. Educational qualifications contribute hugely in giving people the required competencies, but some things just can’t be taught in the classroom, as our year in industry students so often tell us. Winvic’s new ICE Training Scheme will help to create the next wave of innovative, first-class engineers that also share Winvic’s esteemed values.” Cath Mansell, Membership Manager, Mid England said, “It is great for ICE to see new companies implementing the ICE Training Scheme. I know that Winvic have been working hard with Ray Hulse, ICE Membership Development Officer, to get this off the ground and it shows an impressive focus on the professional development of their staff.” For more information about joining Winvic, please visit our Careers page, or contact the HR Department. Interserve Wins Highways England Contract

A £4 million Highways England contract to upgrade the M271 Redbridge roundabout near Southampton Docks has been secured by Interserve, the international support services and construction group. “We are delighted to have secured another Highways England contract after our recent success on the A63 Princes Quay in Hull. Our works on the Redbridge roundabout will benefit residents, businesses and ease congestion around Southampton docks,” said Wayne Howell, Sector Director for Highways. The scheme will see Interserve create a new free-flow, left-turn lane from the M271 to the Port of Southampton. The infrastructure division will also complete road-widening works to create four lanes on the roundabout to increase its overall capacity. Other associated works will include an additional toucan crossing which enables pedestrians and cyclists to cross together, replacing a footbridge and refurbishing an existing subway to the north of the junction. A major problem in this area of Southampton is congestion, with the M271 southbound to the A33 exhibiting average speeds of below 40 mph during peak hours which also impacts road safety. This scheme aims to reduce traffic delays on this important route into Southampton and create more reliable journey times for local, regional and port transport. Interserve is one of the world’s foremost support services and construction companies. Their core values are at the heart of everything they do. As leaders in innovative and sustainable outcomes for their clients and a great place to work for, Interserve offers advice, design, construction, equipment, facilities management and frontline public services. Headquartered in the UK and FTSE listed, Interserve has gross revenues of £3.7 billion and a workforce of circa 75,000 people worldwide.
