Hörmann UK takes Panattoni Park Luton to the next level

Located on one of the most prominent and advantageous sites on the Southern M1, Panattoni Park Luton offers 414,000 sq. ft of prime logistics and manufacturing warehousing space. As the UK’s largest speculative developer, Panattoni continues to drive forward its commitment to producing smarter, faster developments that have the smallest carbon footprint possible, with Panattoni Park Luton being one of its most recent examples. The state-of-the-art development comprises of two separate units, with Hörmann UK supplying a total of 44 Loading Bays, including both Standard and Double Deck Docks, to provide potential occupiers with flexible loading solutions that will continue to meet their future needs. 10 of Hörmann UK’s Level Access Doors, 20 Fire Exit Doors and a range of additional safety devices have also been installed across the two warehouses. The innovations were specified by Panattoni to ensure it provides the highest standards in efficiency and functionality for a diverse range of supply chain operators. The development’s prime location poses an attractive proposition for potential occupiers, with London only 36 miles away and Luton Airport just a seven mile drive. UK major ports, including Felixstowe, London Gateway, Southampton and Dover, are also within easy HGV drive times, while a proposal for a new link road from junction 11a of the M1 to the A6 has also been approved. Unit 1, Luton 346, is available for immediate occupation and spans 346,000 sq. ft of warehousing space, featuring a clear internal height of 15 metres and 12,839 sq. ft of office area located over two floors. Chosen by Panattoni to provide potential occupiers with a premium offering, 38 of Hörmann UK’s Standard and Double Deck Loading Bays are installed throughout the warehouse, with each of the 34 Standard Loading Bays featuring a 3500mm long Dock Leveller with a 1000mm telescopic lip. This innovative design provides a safe working range above and below dock for maximum operational efficiency, while the tail lift slot covers prevent debris from collecting underneath, for enhanced service life. The bays have also been installed with Hörmann UK’s DTS collapsible Frame Shelter and Vertica Lift Sectional Doors, which are constructed using a unique thermal frame system that provides enhanced U-value ratings and increased operational efficiency. The four Double Deck Loading Bays also feature a 4500mm DTS-G Dock Shelter to facilitate the loading and unloading process for a diverse fleet of vehicles. This enables occupiers to transport goods in and out of the warehouse using larger double deck trucks, as well as standard sized heavy goods vehicles for optimum operational efficiency. For improved thermal performance, the Double Deck Docks are fitted with secondary electric roller blind top flaps to provide an efficient seal on smaller vehicles when using the bay. Eight of Hörmann UK’s vertical lift Level Access Doors have also been installed throughout Unit 1, along with 13 of its heavy duty Fire Exit Doors. The combination of these industrial solutions are designed to provide the highest levels of safety, efficiency and security throughout the entire unit. Fergie Taylor, Head of Development Delivery at Panattoni, said: “Since October 2017, Panattoni has committed to more than 8.5 million sq. ft of new projects within the UK, with a development value of £1 billion. The recent completion of Panattoni Park Luton fulfils our ambitions in delivering only the very best in warehousing solutions at key locations across the UK. “Our latest contract with Hörmann UK, which will continue its supply of products to key Panattoni developments throughout 2020 and 2021, will further drive our dedication to delivering the highest standards in quality and innovation for logistics solutions.” The second unit, Luton 69, spans 69,000 sq. ft and has already been occupied by a leading electrical supplier. Four of Hörmann UK’s Standard Dock Bays and two Double Deck Dock Bays are installed throughout the site, along with seven Fire Exit Doors and two Level Access Doors. Across both units, Hörmann UK’s resilient LED Vehicle Loading Lights have also been installed on each bay, along with rayon reinforced recycled tyre rubber dock buffers with wrap around 15mm steel face plates. This ensures all of the 44 loading bays offer the highest standards in safety, whilst subsequently streamlining the loading and unloading process for operators. Phil Thorpe, Industrial Division Manager at Hörmann UK, said: “As the largest developer of logistics facilities in Europe, Panattoni sets the pace within the industry for delivering first class warehousing solutions. We are extremely proud to be one of its leading suppliers of loading solutions, providing our durable and reliable technologies for a range of its high profile sites across the UK, including the recently completed Panattoni Park Luton.” To view Hörmann UK’s complete offering for the industrial market, visit https://www.hormann.co.uk or call 01530 516868.

£20M Plastic-To-Hydrogen Plant At Peel L&P’s Protos Moves Forward

The Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase has been completed on the UK’s first waste plastic to hydrogen facility. The facility, which is planned for Protos – Peel L&P Environmental’s strategic energy and resource hub in Cheshire – will create hydrogen from waste plastic which could be used to fuel cars, buses and HGVs. Completed during lockdown, the study assessed all the design and engineering aspects of the proposed facility. It also evaluated the total project costs – estimated at £20m – which will facilitate Peel L&P Environmental finalising the project financing. The ‘UK first’ facility which gained planning consent from Cheshire West & Chester Council in March 2020 will use pioneering DMG (Distributed Modular Generation) technology developed by Powerhouse Energy Group plc (AIM: PHE) at Thornton Science Park, next door to Protos. The facility will transform the way plastic is dealt with regionally, with the scheme also set to provide a blueprint for future projects to be rolled out nationally. Peel L&P Environmental will develop 11 facilities across the UK in the next few years and has the option of exclusive rights to the Powerhouse Energy technology in the UK leading to over 70 facilities in total. The plastic to hydrogen facility, is the first part of the ‘Plastic Park’ planned at Protos, which will revolutionise the way that plastic waste is currently handled. Envisaged to be one of many Plastic Parks across the UK, it will provide a comprehensive solution for the 4.9 million tonnes of plastic waste generated in the UK each year, preventing it ending up in landfill, exported overseas or in the ocean. A planning application for the first Plastic Park at Protos is expected before the end of the year. Richard Barker, Director at Peel L&P Environmental said: “This FEED phase is an important step forward in delivering this innovative technology at Protos. Working with Powerhouse Energy we’re creating a blueprint for this UK first plastic-to-hydrogen facility, with plans to roll out over 70 more across the UK. With hydrogen increasingly being seen as an important part of our journey to net zero the time is now.” Jayne Hennessy, Development Manager at Peel L&P Environmental said: “The Powerhouse Energy technology was developed right next door to Protos at Thornton Science Park which illustrates how the North West is leading on innovation around net zero. It’s great to see the project moving forward and paves the way for construction starting later this year.” David Ryan, CEO of Powerhouse Energy said: “I would like to congratulate Peel L&P on bringing the FEED phase for the DMG plant at Protos to a successful completion, especially during the lockdown period which is a significant achievement. Defining the application at Protos has provided further commercial and technical validation of our DMG technology. We are confident that the delivery of this first commercial plant will provide a community based distributed source of hydrogen to further the hydrogen economy in the UK.” Peel L&P Environmental is engaging with supply chain partners to support the project with construction expected to start later this year. The company is also in the process of applying for an Environmental Permit for the facility. About Peel Environmental and Protos Peel Environmental, part of Peel L&P, owns and develops waste infrastructure projects. Aarsleff starts to work at Sergo Park

More than a thousand piles have been put in by Foundations specialist Aarsleff Ground Engineering for a warehouse development in east London. Segro Park Rainham is part of the East Plus Scheme to regenerate under-developed and brownfield sites with big sheds and warehouses. Phase one saw more than 200,000 sq ft of unit space constructed. Phase two, to bring an additional 108,000 sq ft, is now starting. A&H Construction has awarded Aarsleff the foundations contract, which includes the structural and slab foundations of all five units encompassed within phase two. Aarsleff starts work on site on the 2nd December 2019. It is using three of its Junttan PMx22 and PM20 piling rigs to install 1,140 precast concrete piles of 250mm and 300mm square. The 300mm square section piles are for the building frame foundations; the 250mm square section piles are for the floor slab foundations. Some of the piles in a small area of the site were specified to be installed using minimal vibration methods due to their proximity to the London Tilbury rail line. Aarsleff was able to offer a continuous flight auger (CFA) solution for these piles, with its new Soilmec SF50 rig. Aarsleff is scheduled to complete its piling works before Christmas with construction to be complete and ready for lease in the third quarter of 2020. Senior technical estimator Dan Coe said: “It is also great to be working with A&H Construction again this year, having installed precast concrete piles in July for them on a new retail development off Newport Road in Cardiff.”

As a business we are focused on building strong relationships with our partners. Sisk has been working with Quintain to transform Wembley Park for 14 years. Amongst other projects, they are delivering Canada Gardens which was the largest construction contract ever awarded.
