Energy Assets Networks Sparkles in ‘Final Mile’ Market

Energy Assets Group is lighting up the ‘final mile’ network market, with more than 5,000 live electricity connections taken into ownership, and 25,000 more contracted, since the launch of Energy Assets Networks (EAN) just over a year ago. EAN is an independent distribution network operator (IDNO) and has landed a significant number of asset ownership contracts thanks to its partnerships with contractors, housebuilders and developers across Britain – and its flexible approach to asset adoption. The company has quickly built a portfolio comprising thousands of domestic connection points, but a key success factor has been its approach to other asset types, including industrial and commercial schemes, EV charging infrastructure and data centres. “Rather than focusing on any one asset type, we have chosen to support independent connection providers (ICPs) and developers with a degree of flexibility that gives us a competitive advantage in the marketplace,” said Jayson Whitaker, Managing Director of EAN. “This business ethos enables our team to work closely with ICPs to find the most cost-effective network construction solution and to provide a competitive asset value.” EAN has made significant progress under Jayson’s leadership as part of the Group’s wider asset management activities. Its agile approach has seen the adoption of electricity assets linked to housebuilding, retail and office and industrial development, while simultaneously tapping into the rapidly growing electric vehicle charging sector. “The 5,000 connected asset milestone represents an exciting stage in our development and is testament to our partnership ethos with ICPs,” said Jayson. “However, this is just the beginning – with our flexible business approach and other asset-based innovations in the pipeline, we anticipate a strong period of growth ahead.” www.energyassetsnetworks.co.uk

Energy Assets Utilities Expands Leadership Team to Drive Growth

Energy Assets Utilities (EAU), one of Britain’s leading utility network construction specialists, has appointed David Burbidge as Managing Director for England and Wales to drive growth in residential markets and to build on its success in commercial energy schemes. David brings 30 years’ energy, utilities and asset management expertise to his new role, having served in senior management positions with Power On Connections, Eon and Babcock International. “I am very excited to be joining EAU at a time of significant opportunity for the business,” said David. “We are expanding our utility network construction capabilities to include fibre-to-the-home to satisfy growing demand among housebuilders for a one-stop solution to all their utility needs. “At the same time, we continue to invest in our success in commercial Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR) schemes, while actively exploring emerging opportunities in the distributed generation market.” David will be responsible for EAU operations based at Northampton and Birstall (West Yorkshire). His focus is on developing an agile connections business that sets the standard for network construction, meets all customer utility requirements through a unified service offering, and creates asset ownership opportunities for the Energy Assets Group. He will also play a key role in driving EAU’s strategy to expand the reach of the company’s products and services across Britain. Says David: “I am delighted to be part of a team with a clear vision for the future, working alongside like-minded people who share the same ambition, values and principles.” On 1st February 2019, EAU announced that all of its utility network design and construction operations, including Future Energy Group and Dragon Infrastructure Solutions, were being rebranded as Energy Assets Utilities. The company employs 300 people and also has operational centres in Livingston and Alva in Scotland. www.energyassets.co.uk

Wallyford Ready for Digital Revolution

Energy Assets Utilities is playing a key role in ensuring that the 2,200 new homes planned for a major development in Wallyford, Scotland, will be at the leading edge of the digital revolution sweeping across the residential new build sector. With people’s increasing reliance on digital connectivity to support devices ranging from smart TVs, games consoles, and tablets to home security and energy control systems, superfast broadband is becoming a ‘must-have’ for home owners…and developers are responding. At Wallyford, Energy Assets Utilities has been responsible for laying the conventional gas, electricity, and water infrastructure up to the spine road running through the site, but is also leading on the roll-out of fibre-to-the-home. “The first few homes are now benefiting from superfast connectivity, with many hundreds more to follow to support lifestyles increasingly reliant on digital technology…and to connect to who knows what as we enter the era of the ‘Internet of Things’,” said Craig Topley, Energy Assets Group Managing Director (Construction).  The Wallyford scheme is the largest multi-utility network design and construction project ever undertaken by EAU, with services now available not only for residential homes but also for a new primary school, currently being built, and potentially some commercial units. It’s all part of East Lothian Developments’ plans for a new community at St Clements Well, which stretches to the south, east and west of Wallyford. The construction project illustrates Energy Assets Utilities’s growing position as a leading provider of gas, electricity, water – and increasingly fibre cable – networks for residential and commercial schemes across Britain.
