The three-year contract will see ASCO providing a range of services at Teesworks’ South Bank Heavy Lift Quay, tailored to support the burgeoning offshore energy sector. Services will include quayside planning and scheduling, operations coordination, vessel scheduling, stevedoring and internal distribution services. ASCO was chosen for the contract because of its proven track record in delivering excellence to major energy industry operators at port and terminal locations across the world. Garry O’Malley, operations director at Teesworks, said: “We are delighted to award the operating contract to ASCO who have a great deal of experience in port and terminal operations both in the UK and globally. “The award of this contract also marks another milestone for the Teesworks site as it makes the transition to greener energy. ASCO as the quay operator will provide the operational expertise required to ensure service levels for users of this valuable asset are of the highest standard. “This partnership will create up to 65 direct jobs, providing more employment opportunities for the area.” The contract is also expected to support a number of other jobs in related sectors and the regional supply chain. Barratt Developments has commenced work on the first phase of expansion at Selkirk-based Oregon Timber Frame Limited (Oregon). The work is part of a wider £24 million investment by Barratt following its acquisition of the plant. Work has started on new office premises after the UK’s largest housebuilder announced plans in 2022 to increase its workforce and invest in plant development. The 900m2 office block will accommodate up to 60 permanent staff members, approximately double the capacity of the current temporary block. Plans for a new training room, which will hold up to 20 people, have also been revealed as well as more meeting rooms and improved kitchen and welfare facilities over two floors. The Oregon expansion, comprising two phases, will create over 70 new jobs in the Borders community. Phase one includes the development of a new office for its growing workforce, due to be completed in 2025, while phase two will see the extension of the plant’s existing manufacturing capacity. The plans form part of Barratt’s long-term goal to increase its use of modern methods of construction off-site while reducing its carbon footprint, both of which are enabled by timber frame technology. Timber frame construction is also a key element of Barratt’s strategy for addressing the skills challenge facing the industry. Using a timber frame system also enables Barratt to cut the build time on development by an average of five weeks, compared to using traditional methods of construction. In FY 2023, Barratt built 3,200 of its 17,000 homes across the UK using timber frames from its two Oregon factories. On completion of phase one, work will commence on phase two with the expansion of the north and south factories. The north factory will welcome 24 new factory operatives with two semi-automated open line panels and three extra floor benches. SUUS, a leading logistics service provider in Central and Eastern Europe, will be the new tenant of HelloParks Maglód’s MG3 building. Under a long-term lease agreement with the Hungarian-based industrial property developer HelloParks, the Polish company, which specialises in integrated logistics solutions, will lease 7,000 sqm of space for its new Hungarian operation. The facility will serve as a multi-purpose logistics centre, encompassing a logistics warehouse with 3,000 pallet places and a handling terminal as well. The Maglód site will be a strategically important location for the company’s growing network of domestic partners. SUUS’s services in the region extend beyond warehousing to encompass full truckload (FTL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) road transport; rail, sea and air freight; as well as project cargo. The company also places a strong emphasis on the development of customs services. Winvic Construction Ltd, a leading main contractor that specialises in the design and delivery of private and public sector construction and civil engineering projects has been awarded a contract to design and construct the first industrial facility at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton for end user Yusen Logistics. Winvic, SEGRO and Yusen Logistics celebrated the start of the 1.2 million sq ft project with a Japanese Kagami Biraki ceremony. The Kagami Biraki ceremony – or saki barrel breaking ceremony – is to bestow wishes for success and prosperity upon the new development; representatives from SEGRO and Yusen Logistics each hit the lid of a sake barrel with mallets and ladled out the sake into sake cups for the guests to enjoy. The ground was then officially broken, and attendees were given a guided tour of SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton. The unit comprises 1,144,000 sq ft ground floor warehouse space and a 333,251 sq ft mezzanine; Winvic will also construct and fit out the 35,810 sq ft three-storey main office, which also has a roof terrace, and a single-storey hub office. It is designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating which will reduce carbon to net zero during the construction. An array of PV panels will be installed across the entire roof space of the warehouse and EV charging units will also be made available onsite to power Yusen Logistics UK’s all electric company car fleet. At almost 1.2 million sq ft, the single storey warehouse will be Yusen Logistics’ largest global facility when completed in March 2025. The facility sits immediately adjacent to the 35-acre Strategic Rail Freight Terminal constructed by Winvic, enabling Yusen Logistics to provide their customers with rail freight solutions providing CO2 savings on inbound transport. The facility has a haunch of 18 metres, 85 HGV docks and 10 HGV level access doors. Externally, Winvic will undertake all hardstandings and landscaping for the scheme including parking for 924 cars, 163 HGVs, 230 cycles and 34 motorcycles; of these, 185 will be for electric vehicles. The warehouse will also have its own security gatehouse, fuel island and lorry wash, a pallet storage area and waste/recycling area. Winvic has been on site at the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) in Northampton since January 2021 undertaking enabling earthworks, creating the infrastructure to prepare the site for the 5 million sq ft of warehousing and logistics space and constructing the 35-acre Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI). Winvic has also delivered major upgrades to Junctions 15 and 15a on the M1, the construction of a bypass around Roade village and a new bridge over the West Coast Mainline, and improvements to the A45 and safer junctions along the A508. Winvic Construction Ltd, a leading main contractor that specialises in the design and delivery of private and public construction and civil engineering projects has been awarded a contract to construct Greenbox’s latest development in Darlington. Greenbox is a joint venture between Partners Group, a leading global private markets firm, acting on behalf of its clients, and Citivale, a specialist logistics developer and operator, to provide Grade A industrial units with market-leading environmental credentials. Winvic will be delivering the 36-week project as Net Zero Carbon in Construction and the companies have celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony. Works on the 24-acre Greenbox Darlington site – comprising three speculative industrial facilities totalling 402,000 sq ft and including all associated earthworks, drainage and service installations and hard and soft landscaping – will be complete by the end of the year. The three units will utilise air source heat pumps, will be rooftop PV-ready and will achieve leading sustainability credentials including BREEAM Excellent and EPC A. 10 per cent of the car parking will be constructed for electric vehicles (EV). The location on the A66, close to three junctions on the A1(M), is a proven manufacturing hub and ‘last mile’ location to the major urban areas of the North East. Glencar, a leading UK construction company that was recently ranked amongst Europe’s fastest growing businesses, yesterday announced the completion of a new urban, multi-level development for SEGRO and St George at , SEGRO V-Park Grand Union, in Park Royal.
