New Tarling Community Hub Under Construction

Construction work is underway for a new community centre located on Tarling Road, East Finchley. This community centre will be used to house a group who have recently been made homeless by a fire. The new community centre will be the new base for the Somali Bravanese Welfare Association, who saw their previous home destroyed by a fire that happened in 2013. This new Tarling Road Community Hub will replace the Old Barnet community centre and will feature a range of new updated facilities including a large space for learning as well as a large meeting hall and a cafe with seating area. The plans to build the centre have been approved by the planning committee from Barnet Council in March last year. It was thought that around 100 people attended the consultations in order to see what the new community centre would look like. The Mayor of Barnet has said that is treat that work is underway at the site and when completed the area will once again have a community centre. When the project is completed, Tarling Road will hold a fit for purpose new facility that all of the local community groups will be able to make use of. This will be of great benefit to the local community and the feedback to the plans for the site have been positive. The construction work will for the Tarling Road Community Hub will be led by Graham Construction. The Graham group offers a range of services such as construction, investment projects and asset management. The Group has carried out a large number of projects for a range of different sectors, from education, healthcare, community, commercial, residential, leisure, hotels, transport and restoration and heritage. The projects completed by Graham includes the Seaborne Library for the University of Chester, Royston Care Home in Edinburgh and Lews Castle in Stornoway.

Graham Construction Signs New Nuclear Deal

Graham Construction has secured a nuclear contract extension as the LOW Level Waste Repository (LLWR) has signed the second half of its major four year framework deal. LLWR operates the nuclear waste site at Drigg, West Cumbria, which takes low level radioactive waste from the nuclear sector, hospitals and industry. The contract was split into two parts, with LLWR having the option to carry on with the second half of the contract based on performance. Graham Construction, a family owned firm, was awarded the engineering, design and construction framework two years ago. Since then the two organisations have formed an integrated team to work on schemes such as site infrastructure improvements, repository development and security enhancement. LLWR’s Head of Site, Paul Pointon, commented: “The signing of this contract extension is a measure of the confidence we have in Graham Construction to continue to carry out extensive works on our site over the next two years. “The single team approach is working well and producing results and I want to thank all involved for their efforts. We expect the relationship between the two organisations to flourish over the next two years, building on the experience gained in the past two years.” Graham Construction is based in Northern Ireland and has worked hard to integrate into the community of West Cumbria. Earlier in the year, Graham Construction had 44 employees working on the framework, of which 32 were local. More than 80 people were also supported through sub-contracting, of which 90% were small and medium sized businesses. With support from LLWR, the company has also developed three science and engineering ambassadors to work in schools, supported Drigg Gala Day and visited many schools and colleges to talk about the benefits of engineering. Graham Construction’s Stuart Robertson, commented: “We are delighted that the relationship with LLWR is going from strength-to-strength. There is much to achieve over the next two years, but working closely with LLWR, I’m sure we will continue to produce results.”

Graham Construction Chosen for £4bn P22 government healthcare framework

Graham Construction has been awarded a place on ProCure22 (P22), the government’s £4 billion construction procurement framework for the delivery of NHS and social care capital schemes in England. The framework is due to commence on October 3, 2016, and will run for the next four years. The Department of Health has appointed Graham as one of six Principal Supply Chain Partners (PSCPs), along with Kier, Interserve, Galliford Try, BAM and IHP (a joint venture between Vinci and Sir Robert McAlpine). P22 is the third iteration of the framework that provides the NHS with the tools required to deliver improved estate performance while reducing construction and maintenance costs. This new framework is designed to further drive increased efficiency and productivity, streamline the procurement process and result in stronger partnerships between clients, PSCPs and supply chains – all with the goal of supporting enhanced clinical outputs for patients and better environments for staff and visitors. Healthcare Director at Graham Construction, Keith Hayes, commented:  “With the P22 framework focusing on quality, value, cost certainty, collaboration, standardisation and a drive for efficiency savings, we are confident that the knowledge and experience gained from our extensive ongoing healthcare portfolio will help further enhance its outcomes. “We’re looking forward to working with the Department of Health and our PSCM and PSCP colleagues once the framework comes into place. The combination of the GRAHAM regional office network, carefully assembled specialist supply chain members, BIM focus and extensive experience across the full spectrum of healthcare facilities means we will be able to help NHS clients successfully deliver improvements across their estates and ultimately contribute to optimum outcomes for patients and staff.” Last month, Briggs & Forrester Engineering Services was awarded the £6 million M&E services for the first phase of the Thames Valley Science Park in Reading. Working with main contractor Graham Construction and the University of Reading, Briggs & Forrester will assist in the delivery of the three-storey commercial development, known as the Gateway Building.
