Collett Acquire Plant Speed Wind Energy Fleet

Collett increase wind energy carrying capacity with the acquisition of Plant Speed’s wind turbine fleet. Halifax based Collett & Sons Ltd and Bristol’s Plant Speed have agreed a deal which will see their specialist wind turbine equipment join the Collett fleet.  Taking the decision to remove themselves from the wind energy industry and focus more on their haulage operations, Plant Speed’s entire fleet of super wing carriers, extendable trailers and lift adapters have been acquired by Collett. With multiple wind energy projects scheduled throughout 2022, Collett took the opportunity to expand their wind turbine fleet, adding Nooteboom super wing carriers, quadruple extendable blade trailers and lift adapters, alongside several specialist adapters including gyrostat tables, loading beds and tower hooks. As a well-established operator in the wind energy industry, the addition of this new equipment increases Collett’s carrying capacity and adds to their already diverse fleet, providing a definitive range of specialist equipment with which to undertake wind farm development projects. “This strategic decision for Plant Speed is one which sees our company focus shift from wind turbine delivery projects.” Adds Paul Lomas, Plant Speed, Managing Director.  “Having worked closely with Collett in the past, the decision to amalgamate our fleet in to theirs was an easy one to make, and whilst we may not be operating in the wind turbine industry going forwards, this is a move which will allow Plant Speed to focus on other specialist haulage operations.” Speaking about the expansion of the Collett fleet, Managing Director, David Collett adds, “with several projects scheduled, and currently underway, this move sees Collett strengthen our market position.  Having worked in the renewable energy industry for many years, the acquisition of this new trailer equipment is a decisive move for Collett, and one which significantly increases our wind turbine carrying capabilities.”

DCV Engineering Purchases First Doosan Wheel Loader

DCV Engineering Ltd is a plant hire business based in Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, UK. The company has purchased the first Doosan wheel loader for its extensive rental fleet – the new DL300-5 wheel loader has been added along with a number of new Doosan crawler excavators, including DX140LC-5 and DX140LCR-5 14 tonne and DX225LC-5 25 tonne models. The new Doosan DL300-5 wheel loader is currently on hire to a local recycling and recovery business in Wellingborough.      David Venn, Joint Managing Director of DCV Engineering, comments: “We began purchasing Doosan equipment in 2014. Our first Doosan machine was a DX225LC-3 crawler excavator. With the excellent quality, reliability, performance and residual prices offered by Doosan equipment, it is not surprising that we have continued to purchase Doosan excavators and now Doosan wheel loaders.” Part of a fleet comprising over 500 pieces of equipment for hire, the range of excavators available from DCV Engineering (www.dcvengineeringltd.co.uk) covers all sizes from 1-30 tonne and, in addition to the larger crawler excavators from Doosan, also includes a new 1 tonne DX10z mini-excavator from Doosan. Nationwide Hire Service Centrally based with very close connections via major roads such as the M1, M6, A45 and A14, DCV Engineering provides a nationwide service. As well as self-drive and operated plant hire, the company has branched into road sweeping and access equipment and has a large telehandler fleet. The company also has specialised knowledge and experience of the recycling industry, with a wide variety of mobile waste recycling equipment for hire, including crushers, trommel screens and deck screens. DCV Engineering is accredited with silver under FORS (Fleet Operators Recognition System). DCV Engineering also offers engineering services including equipment repair and installation/relocation of equipment and the company is a recognised hauler with FORS Silver accreditation.  David Venn added: “We started as a one man and van operation. Today the company has four service engineers and three full time delivery drivers. Other members of our staff are also fully trained with HGV licences so they can help out with deliveries if necessary. We are a family company and this is indicative of the extensive training we want to provide for our staff – DCV Engineering believes very strongly in investing in our people.” Since the company was established in 2001, DCV Engineering has achieved considerable year on year growth. This has been achieved by offering a large, modern stock of plant at very competitive rates, backed by excellent customer service. David Venn continued: “The residuals are part of the excellent low cost of ownership offered by the Doosan range of construction equipment. The excellent service/parts support Doosan provides is also crucial and parts are correctly priced. We expect the same and better support from our suppliers than that we provide for our customers.” Wide Range of Applications for the New DL300-5 Wheel Loader With a bucket capacity of 3.0 m3, the new Doosan DL300-5 wheel loader at DCV Engineering is intended to meet a wide range of material-handling needs from loading and transporting granular material (such as sand and gravel) to industrial, mining and quarrying applications. The DL300-5 wheel loader is powered by the Doosan DL08 6-cylinder diesel engine, with an output of 202 kW (271 HP) of power at 1800 rpm. The cab on the DL300-5 places operator comfort at the very centre of its design priorities.  Offering generous headroom and an ultra-comfortable, fully adjustable, heated Grammer air suspension seat, the cab features a steering column design giving more clearance for the operator’s legs and knees. The steering wheel can also be tilted and moved telescopically to match the operator’s preferred position.  The increased space, better visibility and plentiful storage space in the cab allows operators to work for hours without fatigue or discomfort. Meeting ROPS/FOPS regulations, the cab also offers a wide emergency exit (located on the right hand side) to provide fast and easy evacuation in critical situations. The 5.7 inch full colour LCD panel in the cab is suitable for day and night work. The user-friendly monitor has two customisable screen displays to suit the operator’s preference, giving a full readout of machine settings and maintenance data. The rear-view camera greatly enhances visibility and safety. The screen in the cab shows the operator what the camera sees and includes several lines to help judge distances; it also has other functions, including light intensity control, viewing angle control, language setting and power on/off setting. Jarvie Plant Group geared up for growth at Aberdeen depot

Almost 3 years after opening the doors of a purpose-built hire depot on Aberdeen’s East Tullos Industrial Estate, Jarvie Plant Group say they’re now firmly established and geared up for growth. The Grangemouth-based firm are now working with businesses across a whole range of sectors including house building, construction, local authority, events and renewables. On Wednesday last week Jarvie Plant hosted a Demo Day at their 1.5-acre facility on Greenbank Road at which an array of hire equipment, including plant, accommodation and vehicles, was on show. The firm recently announced it had made a further ‘significant investment’ in its fleet of hire equipment with the addition of telehandlers, rotating telescoping handlers (rotos), access platforms, and industrial forklifts. To cope with the demand from the construction sector and house builders, all of the new machines will be made available across the Group’s network of 9 depots serving Scotland and the north west of England. “We have enjoyed a steady start since opening in Aberdeen and we’re more than ready to support some major new projects in the region,” says Jarvie Plant Group’s sales director, Ian Hutchison “As the long awaited AWPR nears its final completion we’re in a strong position to provide high quality equipment to projects such as Countesswells or the expansion of Aberdeen Harbour.” Jarvie Plant’s depot is located to the south of the city centre which according to their regional operations manager, Graeme Milne, has proved to be of strategic importance since opening: “Being based where we are means we are very accessible from the main routes leading into and out of the city allowing us to react quickly to customer requirements. “In one recent situation we provided Aberdeen Harbour’s principal contractor with 12 tonne and a 16 tonne self-propelled rollers within an hour of an order being placed.” Last winter, the firm also provided several telehandlers which which were used to load up gritters in the Aberdeenshire region from October to March. Following the completion of AWPR the next major infrastructure project will be the upgrade of the 108-mile-long railway line between Aberdeen and Inverness due for completion in 2030. “We have extensive knowledge and experience of similar projects having supplied plant to the Borders Railway, M8, M74 and Queensferry Crossing in recent years,” added Mr Hutchison. “In that particular project our 360-degree rotational telehandler provided the client with a significant saving.”

Jarvie Plant Expands Plant Hire Fleet

A significant investment has been made by one of Scotland’s largest independent plant hire firms, Jarvie Plant, in its fleet of hire equipment with the addition of telehandlers, rotating telescoping handlers (rotos), access platforms and industrial forklifts. Available throughout the company’s depot network, all of the new machines can be found in nine locations across Scotland and the North West of England. The Manitou 6m (MT625); 11m (MT1135); 18m (MT1840) and Roto’s MRT2550+ have all been added as well as 7m, 14m and 17m loadalls from JCB. “Telehandlers are such versatile machines that we often find them in high demand, so we have constantly grown our portfolio of them. Rotos are becoming increasingly popular because of the savings they offer over traditional cranes effectively comprising three machines in one – telehandler, crane and access platform,” explained business development director, David Jarvie. “Their minimal set up time increases productivity on a construction site and they come equipped with a range of safety features, such as sensors for load placement, height and slew restriction. With a wide range of attachments, clients can reduce their need for other machines such as access platforms, telehandlers and cranes,” he added. New to the range are also some specialist items, such as the 10m VJR access platform and 2.5T diesel yard forklifts. Both offer benefits for internal warehousing access and both internal and external loading on compact yards. Jarvie Plant is also looking to the future with an investment in a wider range of pallet fork trucks and personnel lift platforms for the growing industrial and warehousing sector. “Retailers are widely investing in supporting their online sales through logistics and distribution warehouses. It’s an area we can only see expanding as consumer demand increases and our machines will be crucial to supporting that growth,” concluded Mr Jarvie.

Leading plant hire provider Selwood has played a key role in the construction of a state-of-the-art sports pavilion for one of the UK’s first “green” towns. The new Bordon and Oakhanger Sports Club Pavilion is finally complete following a major build project led by Mildren Construction, one of Selwood Plant Hire’s longest-established customers. The project has been supported throughout with equipment from Selwood and, in just over a year, site manager Mark Hornibrook and his team at Mildren Construction have transformed the site in Hampshire to create a multi-purpose community facility. Selwood has supplied equipment from its extensive plant hire range, including three-tonne, eight-tonne and 14-tonne excavators and a six-tonne dumper. A 12-metre telehandler and 120 roller have also provided solutions for the construction team over the past year. The development of Bordon and Oakhanger Sports Club Pavilion will be one of the key facilities in the new Whitehill & Bordon development. The £1bn multi-partner regeneration project will see 3,350 new homes and a range of new facilities built on the former Prince Philip Barracks over the next 15 years. The site, transforming the garrison town into a ‘green’ town, will be one of four such towns in the UK with an emphasis on sustainability. The two-storey replacement building provides a larger sports pavilion, improved tennis courts, boules courts and a bowling green, alongside reseeded sports pitches as well as a series of community spaces for functions of varying sizes. Jason Boxall, a plant hire specialist for Selwood, said: “This was a complex construction but Mark and his team have done a fantastic job at every stage of the build and I think the result speaks for itself. They have produced a world-class building that the whole community can be proud of. “We were delighted to meet the specific needs of our long-standing client Mildren Construction and were pleased they benefitted from our extensive range and technical know-how.” Selwood has an extensive fleet of plant available for hire from its network of regional branches across England and Wales. Its teams pride themselves on an unrivalled depth of technical expertise, exceptional customer service and product knowledge.
