Local housebuilder Crest Nicholson’s Chiltern division recently hosted a charity ball in aid of Young Lives vs Cancer, raising an amazing £16,000 over the evening to help those fighting cancer, and their families. Hundreds of people from across the housebuilding industry gathered at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Marlow on the 26th January for a gorgeous black tie event in aid of Young Lives vs Cancer. The event was hosted by comedian Paul Sinha. Throughout the night, money was donated through raffles and a guest speaker, Patience, took to the stage to share her story about her son Jeremy, his cancer journey, and how Young Lives vs Cancer supported them throughout his treatment, so he could battle through. As a business, Crest Nicholson has now raised over £100,000 for its charity partner, in addition to volunteering its time and expertise to support with hands-on projects, such as repair work to Young Lives’ Homes away from Home. The charity has Homes from Home, located close to hospitals and principal treatment centres where children have treatment, so at a time when families should only have to focus on their child or young person’s treatment, they can stay close to them, keeping families together at a difficult time. The charity has 11 Homes across the UK including Paul’s House and Ciaran’s house, helping families to avoid the extra financial burden of travel, accommodation, and food whilst their child is completing their treatment. The Homes, and the charity more broadly, works to ensure families are as comfortable as possible and can experience at least a bit of normalcy whilst they are away for cancer treatment. Award-winning housebuilder Crest Nicholson has announced that the science-based targets set by the business in 2022 have now been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). It is the first UK housebuilder to have its science-based net-zero target approved by the SBTi, reflecting its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the value chain. The SBTi validation confirms that the targets set by Crest Nicholson are based on the latest climate science, supporting the ambition to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C in line with the Paris Agreement. Crest Nicholson’s target to reach net-zero GHG emissions across the value chain by 2045 is supported by a series of commitments across its scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Net-zero target Near term targets Long term targets Achieving net-zero emissions across the value chain will be a significant challenge, requiring effective collaboration and coordinated action across the supply chain and wider industry. Crest Nicholson is already making progress in reducing GHG emissions. Steps taken to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions include driving the efficient use of plant and equipment on site, trialling lower carbon technologies including hybrid generators and an electric telehandler, using alternative low carbon fuels and increasing the procurement of renewable electricity. To reduce emissions relating to scope 3, Crest Nicholson continuously reviews the design, technologies and materials used within its homes. Crest Nicholson has announced that its pre-tax profits for the year ending October 31 2018 slipped 15% to £176.4 million, with the London sales and higher priced homes being the main challenges in the year. Revenue was up 9% to £1,136.1 million and unit sales up 3% to 3,020. “The business has had a good year operationally, with an increase in the number of new homes delivered. However, we have faced some challenges in London and with sales at higher price points where political and economic uncertainty has adversely impacted customer demand and this is likely to continue pending Brexit resolution,” said Crest Nicholson CEO Patrick Bergin. “Our forward sales are strong, boosted by our strategic partnerships and our new channels to market. Pricing is stable, build cost inflation has moderated and we have implemented plans to mitigate margin pressure, which will take effect progressively over the next few years. Our revised business strategy and focus on cash generation underpins our confidence in generating sustainable shareholder returns,” he added. In order to offset build cost pressures, Crest has taken a number of actions in its supply chain, as well as making improvements to build quality management and performance and investing to improve operational efficiency. The firm has developed a new range of designs for both houses and apartments which offer cost efficiencies through “some standardisation” making procurement and construction easier. The firm is also expanding its use of offsite manufacture (OSM), where house components, typically pre-insulated cold-rolled steel frames, are built in a factory and then erected on site. Looking ahead Bergin said that in the context of an unresolved Brexit, he expects the first half of 2019 to be difficult but that Crest is equipped to deal with any challenges it faces. “We are optimistic about the longer term prospects of the sector, we continue to remain vigilant and responsive. Our focus on the south of England housing markets remains a long-term strength, land remains in good supply and we have strong plans in place to meet the demand for affordable housing,” concluded Mr Bergin.

Once it approaches completion, the development will deliver 332 one and two-bedroom apartments and 51 three, four and five-bedroom houses. Moreover, 30% of the properties on site have been reserved for shared ownership and affordable housing, in order to meet local housing needs in the community. “We are pleased to have cemented our agreement with the Milton Keynes Development Partnership and look forward to working together on this significant development. Once complete the scheme will provide a new gateway from the Canal to Central Milton Keynes and deliver much needed new homes to the area,” said Scott Black, Managing Director at Crest Nicholson. The new homes benefit from a prominent location on the central hub of the first phase, having been carefully designed to reflect the character of the local area. The green spaces around the homes will be connected by safe cycle and walking routes and a number of public amenities along the Linear Park, including orchards, outdoor table tennis and other games will also be delivered. The houses at Alconbury Weald will be a mixture of one & two-bedroom apartments and four-bedroom townhouses along the green Boulevard. The cricket pitch will be surrounded by townhouses with balconies, while semi-detached and mews properties frame the Linear Park, which follows the line of one of the former airfield’s taxi-ways, creating a safe walk and scoot to school route. Crest Nicholson chose to design the homes with contemporary buff-coloured brick and red brick in order to denote distinct character areas within the development, while being complemented by blue brick and render detailing. Internally, the homes will be light and spacious, and finished to a high specification. “We are excited to have secured the opportunity to become the latest housebuilder to join the growing Alconbury Weald community. Crest Nicholson and Waverley Borough Council seal partnership to regenerate Farnham Town Centre

Scheme consists of 239 residential units and nearly 10,000sq.m of retail and leisure space set in a new Town square in Farnham Award-winning developer Crest Nicholson and Waverley Borough Council have announced that work on the £115m Brightwells regeneration of Farnham Town Centre will commence in summer 2018. Comprising a new £40m retail and leisure hub, anchored by Marks and Spencer and Reel Cinemas, together with 239 new apartments clustered around a new town square, the development is set to transform and revitalise a much-underutilised part of the historic town of Farnham. The development includes 72 shared ownership affordable homes which will help meet a broader housing need and support first-time buyers in the local community. Once completed the commercial estate, which has been pre-sold to Surrey County Council, will include a six-screen cinema, eight restaurants and a combination of twenty-four retail units including a new Marks and Spencer Simply Food. The development will also refurbish part of the adjoining Sainsbury’s store and carpark. Detailed planning permission for the scheme has been secured, enabling work to commence in earnest in the summer. The centre, which includes new basement and deck parking for shoppers and residents, is expected to open in late 2021. The first residential dwellings will be occupied in early 2020 and the development will be completed in total by the spring of 2022.  The regeneration scheme secures more than £2 million of external investment into the Farnham community and includes an additional £2 million for highway improvements in central Farnham. Crest Nicholson estimates that once finalised the Brightwells site will provide Waverley Borough Council with a potential income of £700,000 to £900,000 per annum from a combination of rental income, business rates and car parking. Up to 400 jobs in the construction sector will be created during the development of the Brightwells scheme, with a further 400 permanent jobs in the leisure, retail and hospitality sectors once fully complete. Chris Tinker, Board Director at Crest Nicholson, explained: “We are pleased to have cemented our agreement with Waverley Borough Council and look forward to breaking ground on this significant development.
