The car industry might suffer if a Brexit deal isn’t made clear

The Government must agree on a Brexit deal by the end of March for the automotive industry to stay competitive, says the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Mike Hawes, the Chief Executive of SMMT, urges the politicians to give more information to the industry about the deal so that the car market can maintain its position. In 2017 it was down by 5.6% and unless a decision is made the members will keep struggling investing if they don’t know what is ahead. He says that if no clarification will be brought by the end of the first quarter of the year, then the “industry will have to start taking contingency measures, such as stockpiling parts and vehicles, which costs money and makes them less competitive.” The Brexit situation impacted on vehicle sales and people opted to hold on to their existing cars or buy used ones rather than choosing new. The new car registration estimates have been in decline and the current figures are lower than expected. Even though Hawkes thinks that the Brexit did not result in anyone losing their job, it did cost potential new jobs “production and sales are down, which isn’t good for the industry.” However, an incident in October resulted in a 400 jobs cut when Vauxhall announced that it would move its workers from Ellesmere Factory in Cheshire to a single shift through a ‘voluntary separation programme’. The carmaker commented that the move was not made because of the Brexit, but because they needed to bring costs down in line with its benchmark factories in France. Hawkes tried to point out the opportunities that could be made available after Brexit: “there could be advantages to having a factory that uses sterling and is outside the EU in close proximity to Europe.”

Property prices in Spain rose in February as recovery takes hold

The prices of homes in Spain increased by 0.6% in February year on year, taking average values to €1,233 per square meter, according to the latest data from the General Council of Notaires. Prices are strongest in the single family home sector with growth of 3.8% year on year while the price of apartments fell slightly by 0.2% compared to February 2015. The average price for single family homes is now €1,007 per square meter, for second hand apartments it is €1,350, up 0.6%, and for new apartments it is €1,619 per square meter, a rise of 0.3%. At the same time sales are rising steadily, up 22.9% year on year with the growth being led by apartments with transactions in this sector up by 25.9%, the data also shows. Sales of single family homes also registered a significant increase year on year with growth of 22.6% but new homes are not as popular with transactions down by 5.1%. The report from the Notaires states that in general terms the figures reflect an underlying trend of recovery. The recovery is also being reported by estate agents. Barcelona based Lucas Fox International said it recorded a 33% increase in sales in 2015 and much of the growth is coming from Spanish buyers rather than from those from overseas. Property sales to Spanish buyers were up by 86% year on year, according to the company’s latest market report and it said this is a sign that the Spanish property recovery is well underway. International buyers, however, continue to dominate high end sales. Some 17% of prime market buyers in Barcelona purchasing property above €950,000 were to national clients compared to 11% the previous year, the majority of whom were purchasing primary residences. ‘The increased market activity by local buyers was the standout trend in 2015. Spanish buyers have been active predominantly at mid end of the market, attracted by property prices at an eight year low, a recovering economy and increased lending from Spanish banks,’ said Tom Maidment, partner at Lucas Fox. ‘For several years the market has been dominated by international buyers and whilst foreign investors still account for the majority of our sales, the number of local buyers is clearly on the rise and we expect this trend to continue apace throughout 2016,’ he added. Sales to the British were also up by 50% in Barcelona, and in Lucas Fox’s Ibiza office, UK buyers accounted for more than two thirds of home sales, primarily due to the strong Pound against the Euro during 2015. The Barcelona office also saw a significant rise in Dutch and US buyers during 2015. The number of Russian buyers has dropped substantially, however, and are being replaced by buyers from the Middle East.Sales to the Spanish were also particularly strong in Valencia where transactions to local buyers more than doubled. There were also significant increases in Maresme, the coastal area to the North of Barcelona, and the Costa Brava, where Spanish buyers accounted for 37% and 29% of home purchases respectively. Lucas Fox co-founder Alexander Vaughan explained that while asking prices might well be rising sales prices are not. ‘Year on year we have not seen house prices rises. In fact the average property price for a Lucas Fox sale in 2015 was around €1 million, the same figure as in 2014,’ he said. ‘Sales prices can still be significantly lower than the asking price, although that gap is finally narrowing. The average price of prime property in prime regions is also being driven up by sales of new developments, which can sell for 20% to 30% more per square meter than re-sale homes in the same prime micro-area. Currently demand for this kind of product is outstripping supply,’ he added. BOOKMARK THIS PAGE (What is this?)      Source link

Resource Efficient Scotland Set to Advise People Working in Construction

The Resource Efficient Scotland conglomerate, dedicated to helping businesses thrive and progress into the future of this economy, have set up their latest initiative to enable building and constructing businesses operating in Scotland to benefit from their services and thus reduce the amount of waste costs that they acquire at the end of every fiscal year. SMEs would thus in this way be encouraged to sign up to events organized by Zero Waste Scotland, and initiative dedicated to reducing the amount of waste product that is causing harm to the environment as well as various businesses themselves all around the rest of the country. It was found that in the year 2014 alone, a grand total of more than 4 million tons wastage was produced in a single year, and with close to 50, 000 building companies in the country, this is a very worrying sign for those SMEs and for the surrounding environment. If Scotland’s future as a vital business hub in the United Kingdom is to survive and its disarmingly beautiful natural habitat is to remain, construction and building businesses around the country will need to work together to encourage a more sustainable way of implementing their various strategies and projects for development. This is clearly important to business investors around the country, who are more and more eager than ever before for entrepreneurs and small-time businesses in the construction sector to reduce the amount of waste that they produce. It is therefore imperative that these building businesses starting out know exactly what to do and how they can do it: Resource Efficient Scotland and Zero Waste Scotland are clearly the ways forward for this. Indeed, as Ms Marissa Lippiatt of Zero Waste Scotland declares, with building being one of the leading industries in Scotland, it is more important than ever to promote and organize events that will help them to reduce their impact on themselves and the rest of the environment.

Building Plans for Tel Aviv University Building

In order to bring the Lorry Lokey building in closer proximity with the Recanati structure on the huge 200-acre large Tel Aviv University area, the building and construction plans for this initiative have been implemented in order for the building work to commence. Under the tutelage of Gottesman-Szmelcman Architecture, it has been decided that the structure itself will be split in order to enable the structures to be in closer proximity with each other, but will mean that the space will need to be created for this vital construction work to take place. Students will be able to benefit from easier access to the building as well as to the various cafes and eateries located there, as well as allow for meeting space between staff and students alike. It is hoped that by splitting the large building into two separate structures, the sight of it at Tel Aviv University will have a much lesser impact on the environment by becoming less of an eyesore to visitors and tourists. Of course, aesthetic needs are entirely subjective and the forwarding of an expensive redevelopment scheme based solely on this aspect would seem foolish to the average reader, however the building structure will equally be of a bigger benefit to the members of the university and users of the Tel Aviv University grounds. The erection of two structures will allow for much-needed space in the heated temperatures Tel Aviv frequently experiences and will ensure that 5,300 square meters of land space will be able to provide some shade space to tired individuals. With a finishing date listed as 2019, this is a huge investment and ambitious project undertaken by the university that will take up much time, energy and resources. However, it is greatly hoped that the lives of those using the Tel Aviv campus will be improved by this extensive new building development.

AGA Builds All New Fitness Space for Xtend Barre

A location along Marylebone High Street in the middle of London is to be the site of an all new fitness space from its original state as a bargain basement that was quite frankly none other than a sad waste of property building space. Now, these 3,000 square feet of valuable space in the bustling London metropole will become an all-new studio for fitness enthusiasts and those wishing to get their regular exercise in on track. Commissioned by US corporate giants Xtend Barre for AGA (or Amos Goldreich Architecture) to visualize the ambitious project, the architectural design firm has delivered the project on time to include a variety of luxurious facilities but with an added down-to-earth feel that will delight and appeal to users from all levels and skills. The original space itself being a dark and dilapidated space, AGA took steps to make sure that enough light could be let into the space by stripping down the walls and then covering them in white paint so that enough light would be reflected all around the walls of the studio. In addition to this, the main entrance area will also feature some eating and drinking facilities, as well as a sign for exercise tops and gear, in addition to a general sitting space for tired would-be athletes and their impressed guests. Locker room storage areas will also be made available on demand for those that seek it. This is all wonderful news no doubt for the employees and founders of Xtend Barre London as they grow a community that will be able to benefit from the brand new services that the studio will have to offer. This is especially good tidings for Ms Catie Miller, the creator of the London branch of Xtend Barre, and she is ecstatic that the collaboration with Amos Goldreich Architecture has been an all-round success.
