UniCarriers in the UK have rebranded to Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks

UniCarriers in the UK have rebranded to Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks. Logisnext UK Ltd is delighted to announce that the brand UniCarriers is now replaced in the UK by Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks.  This change is part of the European strategy of the company’s owner, Mitsubishi Logisnext Europe (MLE).  Since the acquisition of UniCarriers Corporation Ltd. back in 2017, Mitsubishi Logisnext Group has applied the strategy of ensuring that all wholly owned subsidiaries are taking Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks branded products to market in Europe.  This project started in April 2021 and has reached completion with the UK subsidiary (Logisnext UK Ltd) rebranding on the 1st of January 2023. The Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks brand has been available in the UK since the 1970s, supplied by an established dealer network. In January 2023 this supply chain is now enhanced by the introduction of the direct to customer organisation with the re-branding of the UniCarriers business. Since the independent dealer network and the direct sales operation have been serving complementary customer segments, we emphasise that customer communication will largely remain unchanged other than a change in brand. Together, these two routes to market aim to increase the Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks market share by providing tailored customer handling and service solutions. Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks supply materials handling products for logistics and warehousing, designed and manufactured at the group’s production facilities in Sweden, Spain, Finland, PRC and Japan. Consequently, our spread of customers is involved in storage and distribution warehousing as well as manufacturing with interests that include the production of food & beverages, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, metal & automotive and the building industry. www.mitsubishi-forklift.co.uk Building, Design & Construction Magazine | The Choice of Industry Professionals

£15.4m landmark aerospace project underway in Newark

Leading Midlands-based contractor G F Tomlinson will spearhead the design and construction of the new £15.4m state-of-the-art Air and Space Institute (ASI) for Newark College, part of the Lincoln College Group, at the former cattle market site in Newark. The ASI provides a unique opportunity for school leavers aged 16-18 to train for pilot, engineer and ground-crew roles in airlines, the military, airports and logistics companies across the UK and abroad. The new three-storey building, which is due to complete at the end of 2023, will be only the second of this type of college building to be built in the UK and will provide world class training for the air and space industry, accommodating a full-sized Airbus A318 for hands-on teaching experience, alongside a double height entrance hall, large open space hangar, flight simulator, teaching zones and lecture and seminar areas for students and staff. The scheme will be finished off with a combination of soft and hard landscaping works. From conception, G F Tomlinson used BIM technology software to digitally map the complex build which includes numerous articulated angles, using world coordinate systems for the design and construction of the build. This allowed the contractors and Lincoln College Group to work the design and use real time updates to navigate the build through all the fundamental stages through to completion. The project was procured through the Pagabo National Framework for Major Construction Works. Chris Flint, Managing Director at G F Tomlinson said: “We are delighted to be appointed as main contractor on the ASI which offers state-of-the-art training for students at a brand-new campus in the heart of Newark. “We are extremely pleased to have secured this project under the Pagabo National Framework for Major Construction Works. Through our early contractor involvement and close collaboration with the Client team, we look forward to turning Lincoln College Group’s vision into a reality by providing a world-class training facility for young people throughout the region.” Lincoln College Group Director of ASI and Strategic Growth, Tom Marsden said: Lincoln College Group Director of ASI and Strategic Growth, Tom Marsden said: “Like the whole of the town, we’re hugely excited about the progress being made on site and we can’t wait to see the building. Young people completing their GCSEs this year can apply for our engineer, pilot, space engineering, groundcrew and military pathways now and they will benefit from these fabulous new facilities during their course, as well as the chance to fly in our ASI aircraft and flight simulators.” Councillor David Lloyd, Co-Chair of Newark Town Board and Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “It is fantastic to see the vision for the Air and Space Institute coming to life in Newark and I know many local people are looking forward to having this huge asset in our district. Providing skills locally is a key driver for the whole package of projects being funded under Newark’s Town Fund initiative. “The ASI will be a huge boost for Newark’s inspiring generations of future pilots, ground crew and engineers to see its new home when it is completed. It will help shape the ambition for Newark’s future, making it a place people want to live, work, study and visit and I look forward to seeing the progress over the forthcoming years.” To find out more about the ASI Newark, please visit: https://asi-newark.co.uk To find out more about G F Tomlinson, please visit: https://gftomlinson.co.uk Building, Design & Construction Magazine | The Choice of Industry Professionals

Leicestershire architects masterplan new homes development in Whetstone, Leicester

Leicestershire architects masterplan new homes development in Whetstone, Leicester

Work is now underway at IMA Architects’ designed Jessup Partnerships’ scheme that will deliver 49 new homes. IMA Architects (IMA), an award-winning architectural firm based on Lutterworth Road in Blaby, Leicester, has partnered with Jessup Partnerships on a new housing scheme that will deliver 49 new homes in Whetstone. Work is now underway at the site, located on Cambridge Road. When completed, the development will consist of a range of one-bedroom apartments and maisonettes as well as two-and-three-bedroom houses. The project comes as a result of the continued high demand for smaller new homes in this area of Leicester. Previously a brownfield site in the form of a car park, the scheme will transform the land into a residential hub that’s aesthetically pleasing, attracting new families, and working professionals to the area. Once complete, the new buildings will have feature brickwork panels on the front of each property, elevating the design to create an attractive place to live. Working closely with Jessup Partnerships, IMA will provider architecture services, act as the principal designer and masterplan the entire site.  Speaking on the new scheme, Jack Mellor, IMA’s Senior Architectural Technician, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside leading affordable homes provider Jessup Partnerships to deliver high-quality affordable homes for small families, first-time buyers and working professionals alike. By combining innovative design with cost-effective solutions, this scheme will facilitate the creation of stylish dwellings that are also practical and affordable.” Giovanni Corbo, Head of Development and Technical at Jessup Partnerships said: “The Cambridge Road scheme will bring much needed new homes to Whetstone and we are pleased to have now broken ground on site.” “IMA have a proven track record in delivering housing projects across the East Midlands and we are pleased to have partnered with them. Our combined expertise will ensure Cambridge Road is a great place for Whetstone residents for years to come.” IMA is an award-winning firm of architects based in Blaby, Leicestershire. The firm, which celebrated its 25 Anniversary earlier this year, has completed more than 200 projects nationally and is actively working on 75 large-scale projects across the UK, Ireland and further afield. IMA works across all sectors and with a range of FTSE 100 companies – such as Marks & Spencer – as well as global brands including an international discount supermarket retailer. The company is a proud Community Partner of Leicester City Football Club and a sponsorship partner of both Leicester Tigers RFC and Leicestershire County Cricket Club. So Resi appoints Director of Sales & Marketing

So Resi appoints Director of Sales & Marketing

Affordable housing provider SO Resi, the shared ownership arm of housing association Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, has appointed its Group Head of Sales, Kevin Sims, into the newly created role of Director of Sales & Marketing. The new position forms part of SO Resi’s ongoing mission to inform and educate the market on shared ownership, where Kevin will be responsible for leading SO Resi’s sales and marketing function across the UK. Kevin, who joined SO Resi in the summer of 2019, has a 35-year-long background in the property and mortgage industry, having worked across a number of sectors including new homes development, estate agency and shared ownership. Before joining SO Resi, Kevin held Regional Sales & Marketing Director roles for national housebuilders including McCarthy & Stone, Wilcon Homes and Prowting Homes, and was also Regional Director for Countrywide. Kevin comments: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to be a part of this exciting new chapter for SO Resi, and this brand new role feels like the natural next step in our mission to continue the necessary conversations about shared ownership. Marketing is an incredibly valuable tool for informing, educating and supporting people about the benefits of affordable schemes. I’m determined to change the way that shared ownership is perceived within the industry, and by first time buyers, many of whom don’t understand the benefits that the product can offer.” SO Resi has already seen exceptional sales performance in recent years, and has recently launched three new developments: SO Resi Farnham, SO Resi Bracknell and SO Resi Welwyn Garden City. As many more first time buyers turn to affordable schemes in wake of Help to Buy, demand for shared ownership is expected to increase throughout the upcoming year. The brand-new Director of Sales & Marketing role will see Kevin continue to build on SO Resi’s recent successes, alongside taking on new challenges as the housing association moves into the Rent to Buy and London Living Rent tenures, with SO Resi’s first London Living Rent development expected to launch in Spring 2023. “Where SO Resi differs from other housing providers is the continued focus on encouraging homeownership in a way that is safe and sustainable for the customer,” Kevin adds. He continues: “Balancing customer needs with business requirements is a challenge that everyone in this industry faces, but where SO Resi stands out from the crowd is its agile approach to selling new homes. We put product innovation, the customer experience and a continued pursuit for improvement at the forefront of everything we do. As we venture into other tenures, we bring the lessons learnt and successes achieved from working in shared ownership to the table.” Kevin plans to build on this growth trajectory as SO Resi celebrates the second anniversary of its partnerships arm. He adds: “I’d like to focus on the opportunities that come with forging new partnerships. In some ways, the industry is very disconnected and affordable housing is looked down upon as lesser, despite playing a crucial role in bringing homeownership back into reach for first time buyers. By building these important connections with developers, we can help to raise standards across the entire industry. We have a depth of infrastructure and experience in selling new build schemes which a number of our partners have already recognised, and we have stepped up to run their sales and staircasing function too.” To find out more about SO Resi call 0208 607 0550 or visit www.soresi.co.uk. Barnet Council Leader welcomes £29.5m Levelling Up funding for redeveloping Colindale Tube station

Barnet Council Leader welcomes £29.5m Levelling Up funding for redeveloping Colindale Tube station

The Leader of Barnet Council, Cllr Barry Rawlings, has welcomed the Government’s announcement yesterday to award £29.5m of Levelling Up funding for the redevelopment of Colindale Tube station. Colindale is one of London’s most deprived areas and the redevelopment of the Tube station will be central to enabling the building of 11,400 quality new homes for locals. Since 2011, Colindale’s population has grown by 70%, making the area around the station the second-fastest growing ward in London after the Stratford Olympic Park in Newham. In its current state, the 1960s built station will reach passenger capacity by 2026. The redevelopment will increase the number of people the station can cope with and create step-free access, which will speed up journey times. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt used his Autumn Statement to reference the £2.1bn Levelling Up Fund earmarked for priority local infrastructure projects. The Colindale station bid has been led by the Greater London Authority and has received broad cross-party support. Cllr Barry Rawlings said it will benefit tens of thousands of people: “The awarding of the £29.5m Levelling Up funding is a welcome New Year present for those living at the sharp end of the cost of living crisis. The Colindale Tube station redevelopment scheme is precisely the kind of project Levelling Up should support, supporting house building and spreading opportunity for so many living in one of the capital’s most deprived areas. Better transport links means better jobs and better pay.” Lucinda Turner, Assistant Director of Planning at the GLA and Director of Spatial Planning at TfL, said: “Making our transport network more accessible and inclusive is a top priority, as we know that a more accessible public transport network benefits everyone. These schemes are also key to supporting sustainable growth in these areas and help unlock the delivery of thousands of new homes.  “We’re delighted that, by working hand in hand with the boroughs, the joint bid with City Hall to fund making Colindale and Leyton Tube stations step-free has been successful. We look forward to working with the Government and local boroughs on these projects, as well as other successful bids in London that will enable increased walking, cycling and public transport.” Barnet Council is now working with TfL to ensure that construction on the station improvements can begin as quickly as possible this year.
